    Another way you could handle remaking the rivers, lakes, and any other features in better sizes while keeping them accurate to the larger map is to export your detail map as a png before changing anything, and then use that png as an overlay. I still love your trick with the rivers though! I'll probably be using it in some of my detail maps.

      I'm not sure if I understand your question correctly. But for Bleau, I kept the assets as they are. I mostly use the mountains and trees from the KMAlexander assets and not the symbols. For the mountains and trees I don't mind that they are grouped. It's way too nitpicky for me to want to pick each individual mountain for example. I just brush over an area and then a nice mountain range appears.

    Hey! :) Do you have any idea how to make assets transparent or, more importantly, not transparant? The asset-pack I downloaded is supposed to be not-transparant, but I can't fix it :/

    • @EdwinMenzo
      @EdwinMenzo 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I'm not 100% sure what the issue is without more context, but one thing you could check if the assets are for 'custom colors', 'sample colors' or 'colored' (asset creators use different names for these types). 'Colored' means that you can't change the colors and you can only place the assets as they are. 'Sample colors' means that the assets don't have a color by themselves yet and you can color them using the Ground Color Brush, setting the filter to 'symbols' (or to 'trees' or 'mountains' depending on what assets you place). 'Custom colors' means that you can adjust 3 parts of the colors of an asset (underneath 'custom colors' in the menu on the right side of the screen when you're placing assets). Knowing this, to change the transparency of assets, it depends on which of the 3 types of assets you're using. If it's the 'colored' type, you can't change any of the color, so also not the transparency. For the 'custom colors' assets, you can make one (or more) of the 3 color choices transparent or not transparent by lowering the bottom of the 4 bars (marked with A) in the color selection. For 'sample colors' assets, you can use the Ground Color Brush, selecting the correct filter (symbol, tree or mountain) and choosing the color that you want (again, the lowest bar A is for transparency). Hope this helps!

      Thanks a lot!! I actually rarely use the territory tool myself as indeed, it's not the most convenient tool to use (mostly the fact that it doesn't 'snap' in line with the coastline). It's quite a time-consuming effort and that combined with the fact that I'm not a big fan of political maps for fantasy worlds makes that I rarely use it (borders are a relatively modern invention and we - modern humans - are used to seeing borders, but I prefer basing fantasy maps on Medieval or older eras, in which there were no political borders yet).

    Hey, I was wondering if you might be able to help me as I think I have an issue with scaling. The text on my map kinda disappears when it gets too small, but if I keep it above size 12 it's too big and covers other areas where I want to put text labels. By disappear I don't mean it's too small to see, I mean the text gets blurry and eventually looks like it's melting into a patch of ink, rather than smaller letters. How might I rescale my map to make it so that I can have my text small enough to fit? I don't know if that explanation of my problem was coherent, but maybe you see what I mean lol

    • @Wonderdraft_Academy
      @Wonderdraft_Academy 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hey, what's the size (resolution) of the canvas you are using? Of course I can't be sure, but it sounds like you're using a relatively small canvas for your map. While the font size differs greatly for the different default fonts of Wonderdraft, it sounds like a very small font to me (I usually don't go below 24 on a canvas of 4960x3508). So you saying that a font of above 12 is too big and covers too much of other areas, makes me think that your canvas size is much smaller than what I usually use. An A4 canvas (3508x2480) is still fine to work with, but I wouldn't go below that. This A4 size is meant for good quality printing on A4 size paper (standard printing paper) so going below that, means that your map is intended for a smaller size than standard printing paper which could explain why things are getting blurry and too small. You can also try using a different font. Some fonts are much more bold than others. And finally, you could try to work with a (non-transparent) font outline in the same color as your font, so that the letters become thicker. Good luck!

    How can I better improve my mountains, they always look to linear and compact, where as yours look so well spaced and aligned. You mentioned that you prefer using a tablet over a mouse, does that help with distributing the mountains better?

    • @Wonderdraft_Academy
      @Wonderdraft_Academy 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The use of the tablet is mostly about saving time but it does also help a bit in getting it better spaced out indeed. With the tablet and pen it's easier to 'fill' an area rather than moving the cursor in lines. With a mouse you mostly move it from A to B and the mountains appear on a line between A and B. With a pen on a tablet you 'zigzag' (like scratching or I don't know exactly how to describe it in English) between A and B so instead of a line, you get an area filled with mountains. Another tip in case you didn't know: for the trees and mountains brush, on the right side of the screen you can change the placement rate and placement density. Playing around with that may also help you achieving what you're looking for.

    What are the pixels to make the world map? I bought the program to make a map for a novel I'm working on but I can't fit my world when I do 1920 x 1080

    • @Wonderdraft_Academy
      @Wonderdraft_Academy ปีที่แล้ว

      I usually make my maps on a 3508 x 4960 canvas. At the end, you can always resize it to something smaller if needed for whichever reason. For reference: normal A4 printing paper at decent quality resolution would require a 3508 x 2480 canvas. So what you use (1920 x 1080) is actually quite small.

    • @TheVoidofNothing11
      @TheVoidofNothing11 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Wonderdraft_Academy Oh ok. I thought I could resize with that resolution Idk I'm not great at this stuff. Yeah, my world is larger then Earth so I need a bigger canvas. I saw one on TH-cam guy went even higher pixels. I don't need too detailed as I just need it to be big enough to fit two pages side by side in a Novel. I can always do less details for that I guess , but to more online. Thank you, really like the videos. Saw you on Reddit

    • @Wonderdraft_Academy
      @Wonderdraft_Academy ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TheVoidofNothing11 Of course you can always go larger than the resolution I gave, but I most often don't find it necessary. Especially not for a novel where you have limited space (1 or 2 pages) anyway and you should focus of highlighting the important things instead of cluttering it with details. And don't forget that for example, putting large scale mountains on an A2 canvas results in the same thing as putting small scale mountains on an A3 or A4 canvas. If you use huge assets on a huge canvas, it will still look like a small map without a lot of details. To make a world map feel large, it's more important to size down the assets rather than upscaling the canvas (unless you want to hang it as a poster on the wall).

    hi! did you have idea on how i can delete some of the official symbols? in the Roaming cartel i can find only the premiums and the ones that i got from cartography assets keep going with this channel! <3 wonderdraft

    • @Wonderdraft_Academy
      @Wonderdraft_Academy ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey, sorry, but I don't understand what you mean. 'Roaming cartel'? If you mean to delete the default Wonderdraft assets, then you probably shouldn't. It's not possible to do that similarly to custom assets.

    • @Darthandrea
      @Darthandrea ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Wonderdraft_Academy ye i was talking about to delete the standard symbols (the ones that take the colour of the ground) because after all the asset that i have installed it gives me load time everytime i open the symbols buttom thx for the answer

    • @Wonderdraft_Academy
      @Wonderdraft_Academy ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Darthandrea Those you can't delete indeed. But the default symbols shouldn't be causing that much trouble. It's usually the (bigger) custom assets that do. In the top 'assets' menu you can uncheck assets that you're not using in your map to prevent them from loading and slowing down your program (make sure to not uncheck assets that are used on the map)

      @Wonderdraft_Academy ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the feedback. That's the first time I hear that as normally, I usually get remarks that with my voice I should become a drill sergeant in the army :D I think it's a combination of being too far from the mic (and quality of the mic) plus me talking while mapping, which means I'm not fully aware of how I talk as I'm thinking about how to map. I'll see what I can do about it for future videos!

  • @hinoro1632

    love your videos. I have been having the hardest time coloring my map, I seem to fail at it no matter how much I try. Any advice? I use different opacity brushes and everything, they just never look good

    • @Wonderdraft_Academy
      @Wonderdraft_Academy ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you! Today I'm posting a new video in which I talk you through the process of creating a world map from start to finish. In that one, you can see how I do the coloring. The key to proper blending is to just always set the opacity at the lowest possible (except when using white for snow). When holding the mouse longer, you can still get the color without transparency, but at least you're in control. When I'm coloring ground, it's a lot of 'click click click click' with the mouse (quick strokes) rather than holding the mouse button. Color blending is about blending 2 transparent colors, not about blending two opaque colors.

    Hi. I have an Ipad Pro from 2018. I have read that Wonderdraft is only for computers and there is no app? I have left a comment on twitter to the creator asking if there’s something on the way like an app or online version but I have not gotten an answer yet. Do you possibly know of anything upcoming? Wonderdraft is the one that resembles classic fantasy maps a la Tolkien the most without it looking cartoony. There is Inkarnate, but I have heard they own the maps. Even if you pay for the pro version? There is sidecar for ipads and all that but I dont have a computer. The Ipad is my daily driver.

    • @Wonderdraft_Academy
      @Wonderdraft_Academy ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Robert, I don't have an ipad (or tablet) myself, so I don't dare to give you any advice on that. The minimum requirements for using Wonderdraft are given on its website (wonderdraft.net) so that would be the best place to check. What I do know, is that you should definitely take the requirements serious. It's not 'just' a drawing program where you draw and color. Wonderdraft works with assets which means you're basically adding hundreds or thousands little PNG images onto your map. I have quite a decent (gaming) laptop and even then, when working on a large and detailed map, you can clearly hear and notice it's working very hard to handle it. So I don't think it's necessarily that ipads aren't supported by default, it's just that they in general don't have the specs needed to run software like wonderdraft smoothly. As long as you stick to small maps without many details and not use custom assets, it might work. But again, I'm just a user without an ipad, so no guarantees. As for the output: you own your exported maps with full commercial license to use (as long as you didn't add any custom assets to the map for which you don't have a license to use them).

    • @robertlindberg815
      @robertlindberg815 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for the reply. Ah, it seems like a heavy program. I see now the requirements. So Inkarnate owns all maps no matter if I pay for the pro version? So if I want to publish a fantasy novel they would somehow own those maps?

    • @Wonderdraft_Academy
      @Wonderdraft_Academy ปีที่แล้ว

      @@robertlindberg815 No idea. I don't own and have never used Inkarnate, so can't help you with that.
