Also, The top qualifier and favourite to win for the all round, ragan smith, got injured in warm ups and had to pull out and all the top contenders like Ellie black and mai murakami had falls (if I remember correctly). So even tho Morgan didn’t have the cleanest routines of her life, she didn’t fall and she had good difficulty therefore she was the best on that day.

How so? She FELL off beam!! She’d be the first to tell you she cost herself an AA medal (most likely gold) in this competition.

Difficulty made the difference.

I think a lot of it really does have to do with her body type, if we're being honest. We still see it, too. For example, in the CoP, it specifies that toes have to be pointed and all splits have to be 180 degrees- that's it. The problem is that we get used to gymnasts like Nastia Liukin, Viktoria Komova, etc who do *more* than a regular toe point and do oversplits. So, next to them, a normal split of "only" 180 degrees seems less flexible to audiences & judges. A toe point that doesn't include arched, ballet-style feet gets called "flexed" even when it isn't. They are meeting the requirements and getting docked because they aren't going above and beyond- which is stupid and unfair. We still see it- even as recently as 2012 and 2016 with Aly Raisman. People complained about her 2012 FX Gold, saying she didn't hit her splits or her ring position; I saw an article somebody wrote with HD gifs and lines drawn to show that she *did* hit all the requirements to merit the E Score she got. But because she isn't a ballerina or great dancer, and because she didn't do oversplits, people bitched and moaned about favoritism and claimed Ponor was robbed (she DEFINITELY wasn't, LOL). Like yeah- Shawn missed some of her leaps occasionally, and her dance wasn't as beautiful. NOBODY is arguing that. But if you look at her Floor Exercise composition, it is significantly harder than Izbasa or Liukin's- both had max skill difficulty of E rating for their passes. Shawn CLOSED her routine with a full in vs Izbasa opening hers with it (piked, but still). In every single CoP update since 2008, Shawn Johnson would have won this FX Final. That isn't taking anything at all away from Sandra who is a LEGEND. It just means that Shawn isn't exactly just making up excuses or whining about nothing.

@@blakegillpuente3904 What made the difference was that Sandra did 5 full on tumbling pass and not just a double twist like Shawn and most people did. Take away the 5th pass and then obviously Shawn's D score will be above everyone's tumbling wise. I think she was great twisting form, it's just that her flexibility "only" allows her to do a dead on split, which considering the fast movement, looks like she only hit about 160-170°

Izbaza's passes: Full-in Pike, Full-in Tucked, 2.5 twist + Front Full Tuck, Front Full + Front 1.5, Triple Twist. vs Shawn's passes: Silivas, Whip + Triple full, Front Full + Front 1.5, Double Twist, and Full-in. They competed 3 of the same passes. My point was that a Whip + Triple full is harder than a triple from a RO/BHS, and a Silivas is also significantly harder than any of Izbasa's passes, but especially her opening pass- which is basically the same as her second, just in a different position. The double twist is a C element, just like the Front 1.5 is. So, I don't consider it to be any less of a "full-on" tumble. I'm not knocking Sandra at ALL. I'm a huge fan. I'm just saying (sure, part of it could be that they both had to compete 5 passes), even in 2012 Sandra's most difficult pass was still an E. Shawn was a better/more dynamic tumbler, and she had harder skills. The same can be said comparing He Kexin's UB to Nastia's from 2008 (which is why I'm glad He won that Gold). My other point was just that even if it kinda maybe looks like she isn't hitting, it's a fault of the judges to assume a "dead-on" split wasn't enough. They're trained to catch these things, so if they can't tell because it's too fast, they need better training or a new job. Lol. The rulebook says 180, so if they hit 180, the judges are wrong to deduct because they'd secretly prefer to see 190 or 200.

no, i don’t think she would’ve won the gold. mustafina had a higher start value and kocian was cleaner than her as well. even if spiridova didn’t have that fall, her late full turn before the dismount would’ve ruined her chances of gold.
