    You kept on changing the blasted videos much, that I couldn't even count the number of freight cars he had! If you are going to make these videos, you could at least show the whole train! I give this video an f! You cannot sell a video when you are constantly changing the frames!

    Whoever made this video, you did a good job making it, but you did a poor job with the sound ,and you failed to say how many freight cars he had. Why didn't you at least count the cars and put it in the video?

      I think it sounds pretty good factoring in the video camera technology for the time (early 1980s) of this recording.

    So sad!the US government stood by and did nothing to help the rock island,and the Milwaukee railroads. As a result, we lost two trans continental railroads. I still remember when both the Carter and the Reagan administration's should have stepped in and help the employee save these two railroad s. I am so very disappointed with the US government, that EVERYTIME is look at those railroads, it brings back sad memories of what could have been!yes, they are gone, but not forgotten!

    The Milwaukee Road was in severe financial pain at the time this train was filmed. It was also feeble and incapable of fighting anymore financial battles with the federal government. The Soo Line alleviated this by absorbing the Milwaukee into itself in 1986 and Canadian Pacific now runs freight trains through Chicago and the upper Midwest.

    The Milwaukee Road once had the 20-series SD diesels for use for the Pacific Extension, but when that experiment failed these were used on its remaining network of lines that radiated from Chicago out to the Twin Cities, Kansas City and Mason City in Iowa. The #29 was no exception.

    • @jalilmuhammad8270
      @jalilmuhammad8270 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Scooby Carr Little Joe electric locomotives were used on the Pacific Extension until 1974.

  • @scoobycarr5558
    @scoobycarr5558 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    The 1980s after the reorganization were especially fun times for the Milwaukee Road just before it was bought up by the Soo Line. The MILW kept its second main track in places especially within Savanna and east until a point just west of Mount Carroll, and around Adeline, Davis Junction and between Genoa and New Lebanon. It sure was busier for the Milwaukee Road than in today's era with Canadian Pacific running the show with its up to 12 trains daily and more during the fall shipping rush.

    • @jalilmuhammad8270
      @jalilmuhammad8270 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Scooby Carr actually the 80s were much worse for the Milwaukee Road because of the abandonment of the Pacific Extension, pint sized profits and rotting tracks. Also, the Milwaukee was in severe excruciating pain when it filed for bankruptcy in December of 1977.

    This Milwaukee Road scene brings back memories! I use to be a brakeman and then later a locomotive engineer, on occasion (mostly worked yard service, now retired), over this line when it was the Soo Line. An underpowered train always risked stalling out around here and having to double the train at "red barn" siding (held around 20 cars) further up the hill. Once in 1996 I had a new Canadian Pacific GE AC 4400 followed by an older SD40 in my consist heading over these same tracks. I warned the dispatcher by radio our train was over tonnage for the climb east. He responded "well, we'll have to do the best we can." Darned if that new GE and EMD just walked that train up this hill never dropping below 15 mph! Thanks for sharing!
