Prince William county representing over here. I took the sec+ exam at the end of July and got a 723. I was super discouraged too and it was because of the performance section. I self studied like crazy and I think I did ok in everything besides the performance and a little from domain 3 I think. I recently just registered to NOVA community college because they have a security plus course and it was free of charge. Paid by the state as long as I pass. I appreciate your good words and you are really an inspiration. I’m glad to see so many others on the same path. It makes me feel like I’m not alone in this journey. I’m definitely passing my exams this time around using any study materials I can get ahold of

In my opinion, certifications alone can sometimes be overvalued. I’ve taken a look at the hands-on work you showcase, and that practical experience will stand out far more than a certificate. Consider this scenario: as a manager choosing between two candidates one with an extensive list of certifications and the other with years of hands-on experience I would lean toward the candidate with real-world experience. Practical skills often demonstrate the ability to solve problems and adapt, which are crucial in IT. From my experience in the field, individuals who focus solely on obtaining certifications without truly understanding the work tend to struggle and give up quickly. On the other hand, those who have genuine passion and practical knowledge tend to thrive and advance in their careers. My advice is to prioritize gaining as much hands-on experience as possible during your time there. Once you’ve built a solid foundation and transitioned into a cybersecurity role, then you can focus on earning certifications to complement your skills. Trust me, it’s a strategy that will serve you well.

What’s the name of the Company that you did the internship with? You think they’ll do it again in the future? I should start looking for internships. I did the google cybersecurity cert and I’m studying for security + now

Did you take practice tests? what were scores in practice test

I went to an in-person codingboot campp in 2018 after leaving the military on the GI Bill called Code Up. I failed out of it almost 6 weeks in because I just wasn't getting it as it was also too fast-paced. I couldn't learn at the rate they wanted me to learn and thankfully I left with the grant money they gave me and no debt owed for not getting the material. Fast forward to 2024, after getting my feet wet with technology some more and even securing a job over the pandemic with Meta working with e-commerce stores and learning how engineers talked, it gave me a framework to build on even though I never actually coded. I switched from the previous CourseCareers Digital Marketing beta program that was going on to IT and sure enough a lot of the terminology was similar to what I knew as I had also gotten a job in wireless tech support that was remote and did things with wireless cameras and connectivity and this applied heavily to network engineering insights. That gave me the courage and mental confidence to try using my military benefits one more time and joining NGT.Academy to go into cybersecurity so I can actually work where I like it best which is the cloud. I liked working on very hard problems but you only solve them once and it takes maybe weeks if not months to fix and you just chip away at it. That's what I did at Meta and sometimes with the wireless tech support job I did with wireless cameras for hunters. If you're reading this, don't be discouraged. You will find what you want to do with this. It will be hard don't get me wrong, and you may go slower than others, but the path you take will be assured and your vision will be crystal clear on what you're trying to learn.

I am a Clinical Mental Health counselor in training. We are doing almost the same thing, but I am starting a boot camp for software engineering in March 2025, and the Cyber Security Boot camp starts in February. I am still finishing up my Masters as well. Keep going...

Have you used Azure Data Factory yet?

I'm looking at the convergence of the two disciplines. The cloud provider owns the infrastructure but customers will always be responsible for securing their data and other capabilities that they put in the cloud.

Thanks for sharing your experience. I am a SPED teacher, thus out of the tech field career wise. I failed the CompTia A+ exam by 40 points and 70 points. I am doing one retake. If I don’t pass the retake, I won’t worry about it anymore. The exams are not cheap! I hope you keep pushing though! You got this! We need more POC in IT! ✨

I can't believe we're on the same journey! I completed Google's cybersecurity program, and now I'm pursuing a Microsoft cybersecurity. However, I've noticed that Azure has changed from Azure Active Directory to Entra ID, and Coursera hasn't updated the lab materials yet. I'm currently in module 4, but I'm having issues with the lab and the assignments. Because of this, I've decided to switch to AWS. I am really upset about it! I can't understand why the problem is still not resolved.
