MY Big Dry Pour Concrete Pad Spring Update
Here's the Spring update for the dry pour pad we laid down the beginning of Summer of 2023. This video is not meant to promote the technique. It's an experiment to test the technique. Failure is an option. Do your own research before doing your projects, this in not an endorsement.

Cajun Country Living video for reference. Must watch! th-cam.com/video/GC0j2Ey5NNk/w-d-xo.html
Looks promising! How long did you wait to drive a car on it please? I would like use this technique for the base of my small swimming pool
PLEASE, KEEP POSTING UPDATES!!!! As far as I can tell, this is the largest dry pour concrete pad, used daily, that is the oldest. I watch for your updates like a hawk. Your updates, over time, prove that this method works, and lasts, giving all us confidence that it is worth doing! Please keep posting updates as the years go on, and if you can, park your heaviest vehicle there, as often as you can, to really test it out (some of us got big trucks)!!! Again love it, keep posting updates!!
Definitely a serious undertaking. Just gonna be nice and say good job on not being afraid of hard work.
Gonna leave that form in there? What u saved, gonna pay more tarring it back up
15 years experience couldn’t watch that , made way more work for your myself , be doing it again in year , any bag mix is junk , mixed or not, get a truck. Thanks for the laugh . Hope you didn’t waste to many people time and money.
Good video
Isn't the dry stuff available wholesale by the trailer load?
Can I use this same technique on my basement floor?
I just came onto this videos and I like it and I feel like I could improve on it. I might do some small projects before I attempt something ridiculous in size like a shop
looks outstanding to me great work!
I’d rather pour out 5 yds and strike it off and broom it and be done in 4 hrs than all that emptying bags and sawing . Just saying but you do what you do !!
i never in my life seen someone use what is that chain link fencing instead of rebar???
Good job
Are you going to put expansion joints in it? It might save it.
Expansion joint would be a solution for the transition..
We're is the sun. LoL must be playing video games
It’s cheaper to have it delivered and it’s done correctly. Add it up before a comment.

Thank you! Great insight on how it held up 👍🏾 you did awesome
There is a video on it
So this slab is 6in deep, with chain-link after 2-3 inches?
Wow using chain-link fencing instead of Rebar. I love it.
Nooooo. It takes longer to cure and cracks easier.
whats the dimensions.
Great experiment, but a job that big, you would probably be better off, and less work to just call in a wet pour truck that mixes it on site and you pay for what you use. Pour it in, and screed it with a 2x4 like you did with the dry pour method. You were not going for perfection or beuti anyways. I know that it was an experiment and I appreciate that. What I believe dry pour method is for a small enough slab that you can't justify to call in a concrete truck, but where you have no experience with concrete and hand mixing is too much work. Great video!
1500 bucks? Thats enough for 4 yards in a mixer truck, basic set of tools, and a case of beer for your buddies to come help you finish it.
Damn this is an impressive finish if you ask me! This is the best finish I have seen from dry pour.
So it's been almost a year. How about posting a video of the pour to date. I'm curious to see if it lasts as long as a ready mix pour. It turned out great and hopefully it lasts. There's only 2 kinds of concrete. Concrete that's cracked and concrete that's going to crack
I 100% guarantee its toast. They dont work. I have tried. They chip away into an absolute disaster
He has an update it looks fine
@@cheeseymccheese7249he has an update video
I think sections would be a bit easier. Please don’t use a fence for your barring. The reason is it stretches and that allows the concrete to move. You don’t want the concrete to move in any direction.
Fresh concrete will never bond to existing concrete . It will stick , but won't bond
The concrete bags should have cost around $550 in 2024.
What concrete did you use
So It's been 8 months. Any cracks, any issues?
it's 8 months later... how is it holding up?
Looks good, y'all. Yes,that angle change is tough.
UPDATE!
Nice video, been looking to do this myself.
Wow! Thanks for sharing this!
Not an expansion joint, no where. Good luck.
Not a one. 🤣🤣🤣
Good Job!!!
Thanks, it was a fun experiment.
lets see a updated video
I just posted one today.
Thanks for updating, how its doing now
It's doing good. I just posted an update video today.
Retired Landscape Architect. I learned the Dry Concrete method from a Pole Building contractor. I was amazed how easy it was to get 6 x 6 posts set perfectly with little sweat. I have used that trick on my own fences. Now I am planning a sidewalk and will definitely use dry concrete premix. Have seen others use a topping layer of dry mortar mix for finer finish.
When I showed my uncle my video he laughed and said that he's been setting fence posts that way his whole life. He is in his '80s.
@@MejorYa He's pretty smart
Nice job! You’ve gave me inspiration. Quick question! How’s it holding up. Any cracks and do you park your car on it - thank you
It gets parked on daily by a four-door Corolla and I did an update video today.
Why would you want to keep the new slab separate? Should have added some rebar ties and locked them together. They both move or neither move. I’ve done a couple dry pours myself and for me at least, they only work ok for small things that are not seeing dynamic loads, like an AC unit pad or garden planter pad. I did a parking pad for my GSXR and the edge broke off and the concrete anchors for a roof post split out.
Since the slab itself has no expansion joints and the existing driveway is cracked in a few places I figured I would create a week layer between the new slab and the old driveway so if there was any need for expansion or movement it could happen along that weak point.
Looks fantastic! I'm stoked for your next update. I hope ya'll have a nice sturdy slab for years to come. Thanks for sharing!
So far the slab has been performing great.
Is this still holding up well?
Yes it is. We will be doing an update video around March 22nd when winter ends.
@@MejorYanow is good? If the car drive on it ,maybe it will crack?
@@arthurlouis2864 I've parked my half ton truck on it several times and my son parks his four-door Corolla on it everyday. It is holding up well.
Nice job
Any advantage of this versus just getting a concrete truck?
For us this was much cheaper. That will depend on your location.
I think it looks great! I’m going to do one for a shed that I’m going to use for a chicken coop. Congratulations!
I think it looks all right for what it's used for. I would have liked to have gotten a better finish on it and I would have liked to have got it smoother. The day before the weather forecast was sunny all the way through and an hour into the project the forecast changed to rain in the afternoon so we had to hurry.
