Join us on an unforgettable adventure in the Okanagan as we embrace the chill of winter camping! In this video, we set up our hot tents, my Onewind Penumbra hammock tent, and Jeremy's Firehiking teepee by a stunning mountain lake. Watch as we gather firewood, share laughs, and brave the cold, with temperatures dropping below freezing and a few surprise snow flurries.
We also whip up a delicious meal, grilling juicy steaks on the rocks, paired with creamy garlic mashed potatoes and rich gravy. This trip was not just about camping; it was about creating memories and enjoying nature's beauty. Don’t miss the warmth of our hot tents and the camaraderie of a great outdoor experience!

From FREE to FEE 3 Years Without Paying for a Campsite Wood Carving, Canoeing, and Hammock Camping
มุมมอง 3592 หลายเดือนก่อน
#camping #hammock #carving from FREE to FEE isn't an exaggeration. I haven't paid for a campsite in over 3 years. 72$ for the 4 nights I was at Sugar Lake in British Columbia. Multi day hammock camping is by far the best way to do prolonged trips instead of camping in a tent. The fire ban has lifted, and I cooked up steaks and potatoes on the fire. I pulled out the carving kit and carved myself...

#camping #canoe #wilderness Join me for an incredible solo camping adventure by a serene mountain lake! I took my new 14-foot Valhalla Sport canoe out for a spin and tried my hand at fly fishing. The winds made paddling and fishing a bit of a challenge, and I even lost a fish and broke a fly rod. Despite these setbacks, I cooked up a delicious Thai chili pepper steak on my backpacking stove, cr...

Me and Jeremy tackled the twin lakes trail in the monashee mountians. Although it was unforgettable and Jeremy's first back country trip it was almost dangerously snow-covered. Unexpected winter conditions lead to a memorable experience, to say the least. This hike will not soon be forgotten. Started out with patches of snow, but as we gained elevation, those patches turned into a winter wonder...

12 x 12 tarp?
10x10
I love looking at these tarp setups - it looks like fun … but I’ve got to assume that there aren’t ticks where you live?
there are but not a problem unless your in tall grass definitely fortunate here.
Thank you for sharing one day it will get cold enough to hot tent in south Texas 🙂. Have a good day
@@Bartonsrving border line not cold enough here at this time I'd say just haha
Thanks for the great review! How does the Penumbra handle windy weather?
@@Rain-Catcher-tt101 I'm yet to have it in any serious wind unfortunately
The tarp should be tight to the ground all the way around to keep rain from rolling in under the edges.
@back_country_adventures9023 🤣 couldn't be more wrong. you need ventilation
What kind of knots are you using? So much info your leaving out
the info is the pitches not the knots usedm use whatever your comfortable with
Um excuse me sir , but how long of cordage is needed. ?
depends on how much u can spare enoughnto keep it off the ground to promote airflow
Where and how big are those tent stakes?
thjnk i got them at canadian tire
I recently picked one up after YEARS of needing one.
its am amazing saw
@JTDOutdoors I do have to agree😁
I can't hear you over the noise of that plane.
Have a great weekend
Jeremy looks like he’s ready to give you a big meaty steak and gravy in one of those tents late tonite. Lol
if that wasn't actually funny, I'd be pissed, lol. one of my best friends and solid friends are few and far between these days.
I change leaders often depending on fishing conditions and type of fly I’m throwing. I agree that a solid connection between the fly line and leader is the best way to achieve maximum transition of energy from the line to the leader and delivering the fly accurately. The problem is that each time you switch leaders you cut off a bit of fly line and eventually you cut back to the front taper. Perhaps this situation can be remedied by tying a longer butt section and then retie the middle and tip section as needed. This way there is less cutting back the end of the fly line
@joeszymanski6936 excellent idea. nothing last forever tho unfortunately I typically get a new fly line every few years because of this exact reason lol
I started using SA smooth infinity. It's got a welded loop. I tie my leaders so they're about 2/3 the length of my rod with a perfection loop on one end to tie to the fly line and a tippet loop on the other to tie my tippet to. I haven't changed my fly line in almost 2 yrs.
Good show
thank you
Like your video guys. You make me smiling with you powder potatos, powder gravy, with your 40$ steaks 🙂
@andreprovost7738 haha thank you we had an absaloute blast. gotta eat good when sleeping under the stars. appreciate your awesome comment. feel free to share the video around
Have you tried the wind anchor in hammock mode?
i habe not!! my hammock has a built in ridgeline thats not detachable it wont work withcthe wind anchor unfortunately. you need a hammock without one for it to work
Hey there, thanks for the video. Can you do a follow-up video using it as a hammock? Have you tried that yet, and if so how did it go? Did The Catal pay you to do this video, or what is your affiliation with them? It looks like a sweet tent but all the sketchy marketing is making me second guess. If you've used it at all for overnighters I'd be super interested in hearing how it performed in real conditions. Thanks again!
im yet to try it with my hammock as you need a hammock without a structural ridgline and mine dosnt detach no i was not paid for this review. i dont except money at all and all my reviews are honest and genuine i do have a canoe trip video and use the tent on that trip. l
Gotta love hot tent season. Great video!
coudlnt agree more. Thanks andy
Steaks looked primo. Good too see you back in the bush 🔥
@@joellercovich3630 they were delicious!!! thanks buddy definitely felt good
You probably know by now, but the third guyline goes in the back to pull it out and make more room in the back. You did actually have the correct amount of stakes, it's just that you set the front up incorrectly and used up that stake in the wrong place. The front is supposed to be setup all on the one farther out stake. That's why you will notice that there are two line lock adjusters on that front line. There's supposed to be a rams head shaped hook that goes on that line that you hook the doors to. You used your last stake for the back to hold your doors open instead of the rams head hook. If yours didn't come with the rams head they sell upgraded aluminum ones on Z-packs website. Which is a common thing we do to upgrade this tent anyways. It's been a year since this video so you probably know most of that already, but if not I hope it helps. They are really great tent's. I love mine!
feww of my tie outs have failed and detachd form the tent completely other then then it being fragile its a solid tent and served me well i gotta sew a few things back togethe tho
Another good one , my backpacking days are long gone but I do like using my Onewind Penumbra hammock tent in fly mode with my woodstove on my hitch mount on the back of my truck for camping , it covers a lot of area .
@@dmc2087 oo i like the sounds of that setup!
@@JTDOutdoors I tried to use the hot tent mode in the rain and had to much condensation inside , so tried in tarp mode way better with using the wood stove in mild temps with lots of rain , but still enjoy a fire , although the hitch mount is a custom fabrication of my own design and build .
I just bought a whole variety of those potatoes for testing, LOL
@@HobbiesHobo there actually impressively good!!
Good work man. Your videos are awesome and keep getting better!
Thanks Scott! appreciate that
The hot tents were wicked! And I can't wait for a lot more winter adventures!
more snow and more cold itll be awesome!!
So awesome to see rocking both hot tents. Snow already im jealous. Great job on camp and meal. 👍
@BarkEater thanks Mike. We were pretty pumped the more elevation we gained on the drive up to the lake the more and more snow we ran into. was a solid little trip
@@JTDOutdoors and no more fire ban 🔥 woohoo
@BarkEater right that kills summer here every year lol
Wet ground will filter into the pitched tarp. You will want a ground sheet.
this what about pitched strictly not any of thengear youd need along with it
I heard somewhere that under under over is a magnus, and a taut line is under under and under again, in the video you did under under over, that would make this a magnus hitch wouldn't it? Or have i misunderstood
@@azimmorganam not sure I've never heard that before
Thanks for the vid. Maybe if you just staked the tarp with no paranoid then you wouldn’t have the gap around the bottom. Your trekking pole is too high. That’s why there’s a gap at the bottom
The gap at the bottom is to allow airflow, which is vital for preventing condensation build-up and maintaining a comfortable temperature inside the tarp.
Great video, thanks very much
Good stuff brother, thanks for sharing. I’ve set up a ruger sporter with a 2x7x33 while keeping the iron sights on the barrel.
I like that setup, good combo of optics and irons 👍
Some good ideas there! But I like to keep things simple.
Great video thank you. On the tarp tent, if you slide your trekking pole closer to the "door" it gives you more lift in the front
These are great. I live around lots of trees so would use a ridgeline instead of a pole to increase internal living space. Does condensation ever become an issue with these configurations?
@RC-qf3mp definitely ridgeline compatible. still open enough Condensation shouldn't be an issue but that does also depend on Temps 👍
Great job explaining!!! Thank you
This video says 90ft tall...another I just watched of the same exact formation says 60ft tall...so which is it?
ive only ever heard 90
Great video top🇱🇺

th-cam.com/video/7d1D0xHvMiY/w-d-xo.html th-cam.com/video/NPNdFvdG6QU/w-d-xo.html THose two are my favorite tarp-tent setups.
How many trys did it take you? Alsome knife I have 2 of these kinds
1 try and filming tricks haha
Love the honesty. That trail is no joke.
definitely a memorable struggle thats forsure id do it again
@JTDOutdoors a lot more enjoyable if you can find time to stretch the days. I like 4 nights and a pack under 25 pounds.
I don't drink coffey so I bring those cup a soups is the rice worth doing?
rice would definitely add some substance
Its easier if you install the fly line last
Great video. Two questions: 1) How long is your ridge line? 2) I have a Hyperlite 10x8 with linelocks. Should I remove the linelocks?
my ridgeline starts at 50ft slowly as i use pieces of it it gets shorter till i need te replace it lol
Much appreciated.Thankyou very much for the simplicity of your explanations.
very welcome
I would like to have seen a shot of the inside of each pitch instead of a closeup of you lying there. Thanks though. I didn’t know there were so many different ways to configure a tarp.
@kenwilding5931 can't argue that one bit hard to show the space inside a tarp with out laying in tho I'm my defense lol
You’re better off with a real tent with a bathtub floor.
not even close. tents are for people who are scared of the surroundings at night or lack the skills to properly pitch a tarp. Tarps are lighter, provide way more coverage ans much more enjoyable to spend the night under.
Nice review! I’m a bit torn between the 24 and 21 inches, but will probably go for the smaller size for compactness and lightweight.
@F91jvuDX 24 was the only one available to order when I purchased the 21 was out of stock unfortunately but kinda glad I have the 24 I have used my buddies 21 recently and the few extra inches is nice plus can cut a bit larger diameter
Go with the 24 and also use it as a defensive weapon...in the case.
