Then I had heard their names for half an hour and needed some music to get a break, I only then realized, you created something topicing names having one and half hours. Damn, dedication is named after you man.

Thanks for the thorough investigation! I am Russian, a I read the Самоделки (or Samodielki) magazine when I was a kid. This magazine and Lego catalogs were my only ventures into the Lego lore. It's so great that you looked through the magazine! I can confirm that in Russian the antagonist was called "Злодей Сэм (Zlodey Sam)", which is a direct translation of Sam the Sinister, or more precisely Sam the Villain. Also Johnny Thunder's surname was indeed directly translated to Grom. I've never heard the name Baron van Bar(r)ron until much later and I assumed it was pretty silly even for Lego, so I called the guy with the hook Sam and the guy with the top hat and glasses - whatever I wanted since his name was never referred to. Actually I imagined him to be the mastermind of the operation - the brains, while flamboyant and pompous Sam was the looks, the talker, the briber, the fear monger. The one who you are referring to as Slyboots was even my professor Moriarty to my Sherlock Holmes' childhood games! In my head canon Slyboots and Sam suffered from the pharaoh's curse, that's why they are absent during the Amazon adventure. Sam recovers from the curse first, backstabs Slyboots, appropriates whatever titles and fortune Slyboots had and becomes the ultimate adventurers bad guy. I never had his figure from his Orient Expedition look, but from now on I'm adamant to have him! Also I'm glad you acknowledged the Alexia Sinister/Pippin Reed shenanigans. I knew how Pippin looked so I was pretty confused to see menacing looking woman posing as her during the Dino Island adventure in comics! My only explanation is that she kidnapped the real Pippin and disguised herself as her trying to get behind Johnny and Doc's backs waiting to strike. However I can't imagine how they would mistake her for the gentle and winsome Pippin. Well, knowing that Johnny married another woman later on may explain why he ignored other women altogether and Doc is pretty old and his eyesight is not so great... I'm relieved that Ms. Reed is back in the Orient Express confirming that she's alright! Ms. Sinister on the other hand is nowhere to be seen...

Sly Boots is a former boxer? Whatever is he doing in those posh clothes then?? I just checked my archives and can confirm "Alex & Alexis Gluipstra" as the Dino Island villain names in the Dutch 2000 catalog. Didn't spot any mention of Mr. Cunningham though.

And then there were MY names. Johnny Thunder WAS Indiana Jones. Baron von Barron was Howard Carter. Sly Boots was Lord Carnarvon. The baddies in my imagination were actually goodies too! And I still maintain that's kind-of what they look like...

From now on I just call the one with the hook Samuel von Baron and the guy with the tophat and glasses Slyboots. Also that Lego Island 3 document says Gabarro and Rudo (Rudo sounds cooler then Max) are cousins. Although this arguably isn't canon due to being scrapped it might partly explain Gabarro helping Palomar and Rudo.

For me, the guy with the hook is Sam Sinister, and the top hat guy is Slyboots. I find it more fitting; a guy with a hook for a hand would be quite sinister, and a guy with a top hat and glasses would be quite sly.

I am horrified and incredibly disappointed to hear that such important LEGO resources as Bricklink are using incorrect information, based on a non-canon book. 😢 Can't trust anyone these days. 😡

Man I'm just glad to have updates to Pippin Reed and Dr. Kilroy back in 2019 I was so sad we didn't get ones of them. Same for Harry Cain but I grew up with Orient Expedition so I never knew about him until I was older. It's great to have all 4 of them together again with updated prints
