This is a scene from Krippendorf's Tribe where Professor Krippendorf's (Richard Dreyfuss) son Mickey (Gregory Smith) is performing a traditional Shelmickedmu ritual on a young virgin (Mila Kunis) who is experiencing her first menstruation. In the proper culture, this would be a celebrated event, but as Mickey finds, in a different culture this event might not be as celebrated.
Similes and Metaphor and Oxymorons. I watched this movie in college and loved it. It was a small part in my reason to become Catholic. ❤

I love this film. It is an unselfconscious, modest film--it doesn't try to be too artsy or great or revelatory--filled with integrity and love from the writers, crew, and performers who deal with everyday characters and situations with respect and hope.

Stranger still. It was directed by Penny Marshall.
She directed Big and Awakenings, too, so I wouldn't say it's a surprise.

Lol, was this movie a flop or well recieved? I wondered. I never imagined Richard Dreyfuss being in make-up and lookin like he did for a movie like this. I remember having a crush on Mila Kunis being young too. Anyone can explain to me what the heck she's doin in there and purpose of the pig in her face? lol. I can only think something nasty was supposed to happen there.
I never understood this scene. Was he gonna have the pig pee in her face, or pee in her mouth? Couldn't tell cause she plugged her nose for it coming and didn't know which,lol.
Cannot think of a more under-rated movie. One or two chessy scenes but overall excellent movie.

The teacher is Lance Kinsey who played Proctor in the Police Academy movies in the 80s. He still had Proctor vibes here in 1997-98 (just aging a little bit), but now he looks WAY older.
When I was a child I remember they played this movie always in cable...an awesome movie, greetings from Chile

It's one of my favourite films... the way the characters slowly grow in confidence, and,the their long held belief in personal stories ridiculed by others only to be confirmed by the detective work of the teacher gives them back their self-esteem.But without a doubt the Benitez scene in the rain quoting from Henry 5th always brings a lump in my throat.Finally the drill Sargent understood the power of the king's speech " he who sheds his blood with me today is my brother" brilliant film and totally under appreciated
I remember being in high school and my teacher was giving us a test on this movie. I slepted and she's like how ypu gonna pass and not see the movie. Little did she know I owned the movie 😂

Loved her in Laverne & Shirley as I watched it when it came on Tuesday nights. I still remember the Happy Days episode that featured her and Cindy Williams. I have that series and most over her movies that she directed included this one.👍🏾
