Beautiful scenery. I am surprised to see the wild flowers after all the heat. How do you film while using both hands? Is your camera in a chest harness?

It has been a long time since I have been through a bump gate.Nice area though.

I would love to try some of these out of the way places. How do you find these places to go? In my free time I'm either buying, selling or fixing kayaks and plastic boats. Today was spent prepping a sailboat for a shakedown run... Problem is, it looks small on the trailer but once set up .. this Trimaran is 16 ft long and 12 ft wide weighing in at about 250 Lbs. I really enjoy watching your adventures.

Ive done it before, that route out of Dell City is no joke. There are lots of unmarked roads and turns to figure out. All of what makes it a great adventure.

We service a radio site at Dark Canyon and have traveled that road many times. No cell coverage back there. Always stay on the main dirt roads and don't take any of those sketchy ones that don't look traveled. There isn't a lot of traffic back there even on the main dirt roads but if you break down on one of those someone should eventually come along. Seen many rattlesnakes back there as well. The paved way in is either dark canyon road or Queen highway north of Carlsbad, much easier and safer route to travel. Be careful and be prepared.

Definitely going to be checking this area out soon, spend a lot of time out in the dunes in el Paso.

This is wild, we camp at the bottom just through the cattle guard coming off the black top. We've been going up there for 20+ years deer hunting with my wife's side of the family. Just past that radio tower we found some rocks that someone had painted up pretty and left. Also found a memorial, probably where the ashes were left of a loved one. As someone mentioned below, you missed the main attraction of the South Rim Road. Spectacular view beyond belief.

Too bad you didn't find the Guadalupe rim road you were so close to it try to find that next time you go If you would have left Dog Canyon campground and went North towards Queen and turned left on national livestock road that is the rim road with incredible views to the west

We agree on Buccee's. I don't hate it, but I just don't get the excitement that it generates. Bigger is not always better, and they keep building them even bigger!

this is my home! i lived in bay city for 25yrs before moving. matagorda was the go-to place for fun and beach time! you have to drive past 3-mile to get the most solitude. sometimes it's not possible like you said, because of soft sand lol. HECKS YEAH MATAGORDA > PADRE foreverrr 😂🎉

Awesome vid. I think one of the coolest things I’ve loved from the off road community is when they host a trail clean up and wheel. We would get together, pick up trash haul it out , do some wheeling and someone would usually grill some food. Maybe the bike community can come together and help each other clean up some of the trash.

Hah! There's a very scientific reason that crapper is at Angels 12, but I won't get into pressure differentials and gaseous diffusion and... you get the idea. One of the first things many (not all) members of the crews of B-17 and B-24 bombers would do when landing in England was to take a country right by the hardstand- they couldn't make it to the barracks. B-29 crews had no such problem. One of the most-used vault toilets in Colorado is probably the one at Independence Pass with a high number of travelers during open months and a high elevation at 12,095'.

You are a better man than I am! I gave up on that access point while the dam was down because of the increased speed of flow , but I have some regret that I didn't see the river in its slightly more natural state while it was low. Now that the dam is repaired, I might do my confluence runs from there again instead of Cypress Bend, although the shallow section between the 35 and Old 81 bridges can be a bit fast, and portaging the dam can be tricky for noobs. I grew up in NB, so I know and love those waters (on weekdays). 😃

The REAL test is if your wife likes those new rails! ;-)

Very nicely done- I enjoyed the music track, the travel-with-dad concept, the imagery. Many of those spots I have visited in several western trips, but you've inspired me to head to some the ones I have skipped. January seems a great time to visit the southern deserts!

Hey Scott, Just curious how you find your fishing/kayaking spots. I have several kayaks of all shapes and sizes. I've just about given up trying to find a kayaking buddy. I'm always asking and offering to fish with anyone but never any takers or anyone willing to commit to a trip. I'm guessing you're out of San Antonio or the surrounding area. Thanks for the pleasant videos and saying where you launch from.

I live in Carlsbad, NM. On the east side of Guadalupe mountains. You took the most indirect route possible. From Del City, TX to Dog Canyon is the most remote area imaginable. I've traveled, camped, caved, hunted and explored the area for 50yrs. I enjoyed your video greatly. But you missed all the best part of the Guadalupe Mountains. You were so close to the South Rim road, better camping, better views, bigger tress, higher elevation, and cooler temps. This place is so remote & off pavement. To get from Guadalupe Mountains Nat Park in TX, to Lincoln National Forest in NM is like 25 miles as the crow flies. But to get from one to the other is 200 mile drive in from the east on paved road. Or 80 mile from the west like you did, either way it is a 4 hr drive.

What time of year was this?

I can't believe the trail going to the neighborhood is blocked by a door that requires a code. The neighborhood its attached to is not gated so we paid for their roads and we paid for the trail to go all the way up to their neighborhood. If all the people that paid for the trail can't use it then it should be torn down.

O Man, lol. The pin striping you took and had to turn around. Nice video. If you ever decide to go back to that area; South of HWY 137 near Queen (specifically down 412 / Cougar Rd [google maps] ) you can find plenty of free dispersed camping spots and some in nice protected areas in case of high wind. Pickett Rd is pretty vulnerable. Five Point Vista, beginning to Camp Wilderness Ridge trail 3008, and Dark Canyon Lookout Tower are all established rock/dirt roads you could take your truck on for excursions. They are “rocky” thou. And I would not recommend Rd 201. My 2 cents.

Glad it’s starts that way; but at the end, dreadful.

O:45 - 50 time marker, Interstate 10 and Liv Oak rd, you literally placed the camera on the oil field hills and roads I drive up daily in 2 wheel drive. It is rare when we switch to 4 wheel. It takes several inches of rain to soften the low spots. Normally we just keep up our momentum through the gravel and steer straight. And thanks, driving north of Dell City has been on my list. Enjoyed it.

Leon Creek has a platmap because of the length and has been known to be the reason why we have hills in this general area along interstate 10 see dominion is also a habitation for RATTLE SNAKES

Is there any scenic overlooks on the way to Guadalupe National Park, coming from the east side ? Where you can just pull up on the side of the road and enjoy the view.

I think I would like that trip in Nugget!
