Memorial House, Memory Grove Park, 375 N. Canyon Rd., SLC
มุมมอง 1818 ปีที่แล้ว
Memorial House was originally constructed circa 1890 as a stable and equipment storage shed. In 1926, Salt Lake City leased the building to the Service Star Legion and prominent Salt Lake architects Hyrum Pope and Harold Burton were hired to design a new façade with Georgian style. The brick walls were covered with stucco, six rounded dormers were added to the roof, and the stable doors on the ...
Quayle House, Quince Street, Marmalade, SLC
มุมมอง 2288 ปีที่แล้ว
The Thomas Quayle house in Salt Lake City was built in 1872. The front bay window, steeply pitched roof, wooden bargeboard, porch decoration, and pointed windows make this cottage an excellent example of the Gothic Revival style. One of my personal favorites! This structure was going to be demolished to build the downtown Hilton, but thanks to the Utah Heritage Foundation it was moved in 1975 t...

Despite several additions and alterations, this home retains many original 1904 features and has been restored with an eye to the details of its original finishes. This outstanding restoration and preservation project, completed by Phill McCarthey, won a Heritage Award from Utah Heritage Foundation in 2002. I am so thankful that this building has been saved and continues to contribute to the cu...

I just discovered this channel a week or two ago, and glad to see a new post! 😁 I hope there's more old news videos, videos showcasing the local historical buildings, and mini (shorter than this video) updates that'll be posted this year! 🙏

Disgraceful, it saddens to see industrial relics of the past like these being torn down

long ago in the early 1970s I had quite a liking for the tall smokestack with the Colonel s picture at the top years later when they stripped that and no longer burned fires in there I began to lose interest in it I wanted to see it go with the short stack though I was glad to see the stacks go it was still hard to get used to the transition for so many years there they stood that was 20 years ago that they went down

I climbed the Stack with 2 friends; Jimmy Randazzo and John Perryman on a dark night in July 1967. A threshold moment in my life. Never forgot the top and the gallery of names painted there. We painted the name of our Band down the left side on our way back down. Could still read some of it the day I watched them fall.

13 years ago, My Wife, Darlene Walker Carpenter and I were among those who personally witnessed the demolition and felling of the Muray Stacks. Thanks for this inciteful, historical tribute. Shall they be remembered again?

Trolley Square, what a shame. It used to be one of Utah's most successful shopping malls back in the day. But alas, its time has come and gone, as more and more people decide to shop elsewhere in the suburbs. After Trolley exchanged hands with ownership and after rental rates for tenants increased, in addition to the shooting and the bad economy, it hasn't been the same since.
