Pro Controller X - Adding Motion Controls to a Wii U Pro Controller

A fun little summer project, to make my favourite controller. Yes I actually like the Wii U Pro controller, the buttons are all crisp, and quite frankly I don't care where the right stick is, both the right stick and buttons fit nicely within my hands

    Why did you install lights is it not perfect enough for you or somen???

    I can’t even tell you how much I love this controller, I ended up getting a total of 3 just in case they’re impossible to find in the future. There’s one change I absolutely have to make at some point, it is sometimes called Gulikit, but I think it’s only for every other controller (maybe those electromagnetic analog stick controllers would work if the guts fit well enough in the pro shell, I never thought about that until you said it)… all 3 controllers I have do have drift issues, and sometimes deadzone can be adjusted, but I just hate dealing with it all the time! There probably aren’t many of us who see the perfection of this controller… For me, it really covers all the bases I care about -the layout is equally comfortable for 2D games or 3D because of both analog sticks sitting up high, and that’s perfect for isometric racing, twin stick shooters (i haven’t run into an issue where it hasn’t been better than every other setup) I don’t know anything about electronics, but since you do, how would you approach doing the no drift stick mod? Would it even be possible to do something like use the gulikit made for say the ps5 using adapter cables, or maybe splicing the wires and solder to the original clip? (I think there are 5 wires for Wii U pro, but these kits have 6… that can’t be good!😂) Oh, you should look into that magic…stick? or whatever it’s called, it’s the $15 usb dongle that uses 2 input choices, and 1 makes the PC think it’s an xbox one controller, so it basically just works with everything now, and you never have to use anything else again!!! I know you already said you’re already set, but it’s so great to just plug that thing into a usb port, and 2 seconds later it just works perfectly! (well, steam is such a POS that it will mess up, but there’s nothing wrong with the dongle or controller. That company is run by some real shitheads! but I’m not getting started on it now, gotta run…. thanks

      Totally agree, I love the layout of this controller, that's why I ended up building it. As for the Gulikit kit for no drift, it's a mixed bag whether or not they would work for this controller or the unmodified Wii U Pro. The issue with the kits is they require a specific voltage to operate, if the voltage doesn't match you can actually burn out the joysticks. For that reason, I've never actually investigated the Gulikit mods, since I personally haven't experienced drift in any of my controllers, and getting it to work seems not effort than it's worth I'll take a look into those adapters as well. I don't really need them now, but I do remember seeing some 8BitDo adapters for other controllers a few years ago, it's interesting that there's now a ton of adapters that exist

      @@OfflineRocket Well you at least saved me from making one mistake… there no way in hell I would’ve been able to figure that out! I don’t know exactly what’s wrong with me ole noggin, so I just usually say I’m a big dummy in general, I literally can’t learn how to do something unless I find it fun, or really interesting. And the thing that sucks about that, is even though I would love to learn how to build a custom controller from scratch, or close to it, I can’t! There’s just this block that sorta switches me off, and nothing will stick. And it’s the same thing with audio gear, I love music more than just about anything (but it’s close to being a tie with video games) and always want to make headphones and speakers, or even a custom pc jukebox that will sound as good as you can get it to sound. But even when I try to ask people who are in the know about which gear is really good and why, as soon as they start trying to explain it, they use these weird terms/phrases like “the soundstage is more full, and has more body” (maybe I’m thinking of shampoo commercials) and It sounds like they’re making shit up, but I wouldn’t even know how to begin figuring out what a full or non-full soundstage is supposed to sound like so I can compare it?! Geez, I’m sorry, I tend to go on these rants, but don’t realize I’m doing it until I’m already done! I’m gonna actually give you all the correct info on that dongle, because when I was trying to find it, I ended up getting the wrong model number from the right brand, they have a lot of dongles that apparently do something for the Wii U, but only one is specifically for using it as an x-input and D-input controller. I just need about an hour to get some stuff done first. Thanks man

    hey man i had a question about one of your previous keyboards , the sanctuary , I wanted to know how the battery life of that model is and if there is a way by any chance to reduce battery usage to very minimum, maybe by messing with the clock speed or using certain interupt or sleep functions(i dunno i'm not an engineer) but I got really interested in using an ESP32 to build a custom keeb but i don't want it to run out of battery that quick so power management tips would be appreciated.

    • @OfflineRocket
      @OfflineRocket 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      If I'm honest, The Sanctuary was a much less efficient keyboard for power, but it paved the way to learning on this keyboard (I mainly made Phendrana to improve on the issues from The Sanctuary) Usually at most, The Sanctuary would last a day of charge, but probably even less There was a few main reasons for that, but essentially it comes down to the whole system being inefficient in power. The ESP32 itself isn't terribly efficient, but was moreso an issue that I didn't implement a sleep system, so The Sanctuary was always awake wasting power, even if you weren't typing. The ESP32 does have a sleep mode from what I know, I quite frankly just don't like programming, so I never implemented it 😅 The LEDs were also 5V Addressable, which are notoriously inefficient, and since they were always on with the ESP32, they sucked a lot of power The Power system itself was inefficient, I used a boost convertor to a linear regulator, both of which aren't very efficient (it had to boost the battery voltage to 5V for the LEDs, only to regulate it down to 3.3V from a linear regulator, which are only about 70% efficient in the best conditions) Primarily, the suggestions I'd make are to look into making your own power system for the ESP32, specifically using switching regulators, and see if you can regulate the 3 to 4.2V of the battery to the 3.3V on the ESP32 (might want to see if the ESP32 can run undervolted at 3V too, so you can drain the battery to the lowest safe voltage) learning how sleep modes work on the ESP32 would help tremendously too, something like a 15 minute timer since the last time you typed. Also, if you want backlight, pick a colour and use standard LEDs, no RGB
