I watch for sales, I currently found one for over hatch at 2.98 per female chick(normally over hatch chicks are 4.25). I also asked for a free meal maker hen and a free rooster chick. I bought 15 plus the 2 and shipping was +$15.

I use Meyers about all the time to ship chicks! I've even been to the hatchery in Polk, OH, and they were very friendly and loaded me down with free goodies and gave me a tour. On shipping cost, their chick minimums are 3 during warm weather months and 8 during cold. If you order less than 15 chicks, your cost is currently $50. BUT, if you order 15 +, shipping drops to $15! Lots better! Just to let you know

we've got all our chickens from meyer hatchery 4 different times. A few didn't arrive alive but that's to be expected. They were great at replacing the chick but they only ship in 3, so I had to purchase 2 to complete 3 the needed to be shipped. Once I received a rooster when I didn't order one but again, they were great in replacing it but again I had to order 2 more to make 3 needed for shipping. I started wanting only 6. I know have 32 🤷‍♂ . believe it or not I still plan to order more. it's addictive. Thats why they call it "CHICKEN MATH" 👍😊😊

How old was your chick? We juet got chicks in the mail, they are three days old and one of ours is spunky but her neck does seem tilted. It wont hurt anything to give hwr vitamin E, right?

Did all of them turn out to be hens. I have ordered 5 pullets and they are 6 weeks old and 2 out of the 5 have bigger combs and waddles which has me concerned they might be cockerels.

It's a good idea to open the box at the post office and have a postal worker witness it in case of dead or dying chicks. Some hatcheries will replace dead chicks if they died in transit and can be proved so.

Hi I have this one , I have a few question I hope you don’t mind me asking , how much water did you put in the bottom and what humidity did you have it at ? Or does it matter

We had to do the same with heat plate. My chicks liked it but preferred the lamp. They were more active & alert with the lamp. The plate they just huddled together the whole day

Usually I would buy chicks from Spike and Houles I am anxious of them dying

We just got our baby chicks today frm Meyer hatchery. We got 16 ordered 15&so far so good. They were a lil stressed&loud frm the travel but we got them settled down. Hope all is going well with yours Tfs!!(edit:for some reason this showed as 2mths ago but I see it’s 7mths ago so yours must be pretty big now)

I bought exact the same incubator and i had a really good hatch rate (75%) wish ud keep the styrofoam Box on, as they even stated in the description, that its best to keep it in on as that would help for any temperature loss... Ps. Nice video though. :)

I made the same mistake when I got mine - apparently we’re not meant to remove the cork box it came in to maintain the temperature.. the genius who created it thought this should go without saying 🤷🏻‍♂️

I would recommend that you put Linoleum down on the floor easier to clean that way. Nice job on the coop.

This is my second year with chickens. I must state I'm embarrassed and upset. I've built 2 brooders and spent stupid money doing so. I have the exact same dog crate and never even considered using it as a brooder. Well done ma'am.

I love seeing the kids playing with the chickens, and the husband too! You post on BYC, right? I would definitely link your video in the coop section and ask for people suggestions about ventilation. They always have good ideas over there. Is that the permanent fencing you're going with for the run? It's okay for keeping the chickens in, but it's not predator proof. A dog can rip through chicken wire pretty easily, a raccoon can climb over it and a hawk can fly in there. It might be fine, but it might not be. Love to see the coop progress. ❤️

Some suggestions. Make the ramp longer so it has less slope. Rip the cleats in half and put them about 3" apart. The chickens are fully feathered, they don't need the heat lamp. Since the coop area has no ceiling there is likely enough ventilation there though I would consider putting a few 1/2" hardware cloth covered openings lower in the walls so air can draft up out the top. Where do you plan to put the roosts?

Check out the Mama Heating Pad thread on BYC and dump the heat lamp next time. Closest thing to a hen brooding chicks, safer and more comfortable for the chicks, they sleep at night and run around during the day. No "Vegas 24 hour lights".
