Has it is fantasy you have more freedom when using proxies however I think late 15th Century or Landskecht crossbowmen might be a better fit?
These look decent enough...as I get older and my eyesight worsens I care less. But mould lines are the bane of my life and TOW is crazy for them.
Big strong fellows you have there. I might have to pick them up when I finish my backlog. In 2063.
8th still the best … historical plus the impact of magic on rank and file (which let’s be honest would exist if magic existed)
The main issue is assholes using line hammer - I usually shake their hands the first time they do it and find a real player to play against
I am planning to get the Lothern chick, together with the wizard box, the new Ellyrian Reavers and the Hand Maidens. I am more happy with the HE realease then the Empire one. Found this one really disappointing
The running character looks like AoS trash. The Chracian guy is much more Old World
I could be wrong, but I think we will get new new dryad models for the wood elves release
I believe its Cathay, lots of creators have linked the picture to the rulebook background picture that describes Cathay
I've seen quite a bit on this since I came up with my thoughts. The internet investigators do seem to lean heavily to it being Cathay. Not my first pick (obviously) but it would be exciting to see something completely new
I actually like the Champion of Chrace model. I dislike dynamic poses
I suppose that's one of the joys of it, something for everyone
They failed. While the core rules are okay there are some major issues. Magic is extremely boring. Just plain old.. Boring.. pointless. Infantry being udner par - while Heroes and monsters are far too good. Infantry need the old rank bonus and hordes could have +1. While ridden monsters need a split profile. The core rules are playable with decent, chill opponents. But there are far too many low-life a-clowns playing Warhammer. Below average IQ with bad social skills just there to abuse the rules and too generous army selections. 6th Ed is by FAR still more balanced. And fun. The magic is actually fun there. There are some rules that are better in TOW. But i can live without them as the armies in TOW are just.. Silly. minimal Core units and hordes of Rare nonsense. Spoiled kids with no clue of what looks cool and, yeah - "realzism" is lacking. It is still based on real life and the Core should not be something scared in the corner doing nothing while the very rare, elite stuff does all the job. Utter nonsense. But i don´t expect anything esle when the random Warhammer player are drooling mongz.
I heard someone say RAW the cannon bounce is the only thing effected.
It literally says there the path of the cannonball, the bounce is part of the path of the cannonball
@@Enigmatus23 edited my comment to say only the bounce is changed because of the specification to crunch.
The Old World is the best gaming I've had maybe ever. I love it.
Audio is terrible
I was using a new device to record the sound. Clearly didn't do a good enough job. This Friday's video was recorded on the old device and I'm going to be trying other things in the future to get the audio back to a better level
Old world has replaced all my other games in the last year and I am not planning to buy any 40k or AoS stuff this year ( however I will print a Krieg army ). The rules are fun if you happen to have a few gentlemen to play with and Iove the more clunky look of the models.
Old World is my first foray into collecting Warhammer and I'm having a blast. It's way cheaper to get into than AoS or 40k ($US). Whether or not it's worth it will probably depend on if there's a community for it in your area. Or, if it interests you from a hobby perspective getting another crack at the old models. The game plays very well for how hefty the rules are up front.
Yeah, people complain about the old models but OW starters are probably the only boxes that compete with other companies in the model/$ ratio, still more expensive on average but ~1EUR per model is actually insane for GW.
God willing, I will have a full moot army one day
I do love halflings...
The problem is that infantry don't perform well in the game. So why buy it when you're never going to use it.
I don’t think people want to attend tournaments of a broken game. I certainly don’t.
I wish I hadn't bothered (re-)buying in. Most of the WHFB crew here are 30-50, busy with their kids, and really hard to get to come out and play. 3 of my regular opponents tried one match of TOW and then moved back to games like Conquest and Bolt Action. Some of the design decisions are just baffling to me, like making L4 wizards basically mandatory(I miss the days of just being able to have a L2 with a couple dispel scrolls and buff spells). I feel like the rules should reward you following the lore(eg, halberds should actually be a good choice for Empire state troops, marauders shouldn't feel like a tougher tarpit than chaos warriors, etc). Do GW even play their own games?
Plenty to agree with there. One quibble though - those Dwarfs that are winning tournaments (mainly the same player in this country it seems) are absolutely using 'linehammer' which you say is discredited. Just because they don't start in a line doesn't mean they don't go wide and make the most of the 'everyone in the fighting rank gets to fight' mechanic when they do their fighting. Now them winning games is also through points denial by being a 'deathstar' which seems to be a common trend with other factions too, but the 'linehammer' is definitely important for them. I wouldn't criticise people for doing this - it's a well thought out competitive response to how the rules and lists seem to make more traditional-looking Dwarf armies horribly vulnerable - but it's just another aspect of competitive armies not looking the way most people would probably like them to. Not a problem for the rest of us anyway of course.
To make it short: no. Explaining: No, not really worth. However in the end it all comes down to taste.
Warhammer Fantasy 2nd edition forever
6th!!
Actually its a wargame based around lines of things and no infantry from what I have seen….
I think take and hold should not be a thing in Old World (like 40k and AoS "standing in circles"). We already have the special terrain features where you can gain extra victory points by holding them and I think that is enough. Especially if we want to keep Old World more narrative than competitive...
Too late for video Areldy dive in....
An absolute failure in all respects imo. Remember there are 3 reasons why Warhammer Fantasy failed (technically 4). 1 - insane 100-120 or so pages of rules, when 40K was around 20-30 pages.... 2 - insane prices, rendering the game unaffordable for most (40k had lower model count) 3 - limited support and model releases compared to other games GW repeated and worsened these problems with Old World. The rulebook is like 137 pages... the prices are extreme (even worse given many of the models are from 1997-2004) and GW hit all TOW's already high prices in 2024 with a 10% price rise mid-year, remember.... and of course we're getting even less support that before with so far the Orcs and Chaos - and Empire - not getting a single new plastic kit. (4) - 80-90% of GW customers don't play the game, they just collect models and the nature of the rank-and-flank square base means the models are less dynamic and appealing... but that's a tough one to remedy. The game is a complete failure on all levels if your agenda is to make Warhammer Fantasy the king again and return to the top where it belongs. And damn them - damn them - for setting the game up in a nonsense period instead of the Karl Franz era, where 10,000s.. maybe 100,000s of Total War players might have given the range a chance, had they seen a plastic Todbringer or a plastic Teclis or any of the 100s of Fantasy characters that we''ll never get new models for. It's almost as "Old World" was set up to fail. Nostalgia i.e. a money grab is what Old World is. And it's such a shame. They couldn't eve be bothered to make new Tomb King skeletons: that's how little respect they have for us.
@@scepteredisle Oh look, an irrational hater. Wouldn’t be the internet without one. Not arguing with you, just saying I’m not sure why you’re even bothering. Just play another game. Have a great day.
Expensive and limited releases so far but extensive rules is why it’s so fun. 40k ain’t
close the door ,bye
The new character kits for all the factions you list must fit the bill really well if you didn't even notice them.
I think you put it quite well, not agreeing on everything but yeah. years of a slow hype and bringing out pretty no new kits with a price hike for old models.. yeah nah
I don't understand how people weight that one Army or unit is that much better than another. Matched play are not the measuring stick for internal balance. If I know I will face Bretonnians I will obviously be prepared for that, that is probably how 90% of people playing Warhammer plays. We know what army we play against, people we play against and probably what scenarios we intend to play. Just measuring the games balance around matched play are basically like having the wrong input... shit in shit out kind of thing.
Well, I’m an older gamer and honestly this is my favorite game because of nostalgia. But but it’s still a beautiful looking game on the table full of character, history and narratives. The rules are better than most editions and better than most games. It’s not perfect but neither is any game. You just have to find which one is your’s. Looking forward to years of hobby enjoyment for decades to come. (I’ll be the 80 year old man playing with an old friend in a personal gaming room.)
Good video! Ultimately nostalgia tints my view (I got into 4th edition over 30 years ago when I was very young), but I do think the game is genuinely good (probably, on balance, my favorite version of Warhammer Fantasy).
Thanks, I'm in much the same boat
Im waiting for high elves. But not so concerned about launch rules. Just going to make my army and then get the rules, even if V1 isn't great. There will be a V2 with improvements etc over time.
he actually looks pretty funny, i like him
1:55 what if you dont play exiles?
For me visual wise, I like most of the model with the exception of the axe. It’s both to big, crudely built and doesn’t make much sense as a weapon ti kill dragons, like his lore suggests. It honestly looks like something out of a Greenskin army, especially with how jagged the edge is. What I think would be interesting is a more slender almost rapier like blade, to slip through the gaps in Dragon scales. IDK just my thoughts.
I hadn't spotted that but now won't be able to unsee it
@ He instantly becomes peak miniature if it turns out he’s just two Gobbos in a suit that stole a choppa.
Looks like a resculpt of krell but alive lol
Now that would be a twist...
I really wonder how he's gonna look like next to the other new Bretonnians. If you were to put the new plastic knights next to the new resin ones you'll find that they were very clearly designed by different people with different visions. The plastic foot knights of the realm are very tall, very skinny and very busy, with small heads and massive weapons - the resin paladins, who were very clearly designed to be much more in line with the old Bretonnia esthetic, look plain and squat in comparison. On first glance, this guy looks like he might blend better into the knights of the realm than the other foot characters - he even has the lock-and-key thing hanging from his belt that became a design choice for the foot knights of the realm for some reason. Personally, I'm much more of a fan of Bretonnia's resin over plastic releases so far and was hoping GW was going to stick to that esthetic going forward.
Models great, his stats in game are not.
Great looking model, have they said when it will be available? Great video thanks.
Glad you liked the video - GW haven't given a release date yet
Do you like your Brettonians regular or extra crispy? I think dragon slaying is 100% on the practical exam.
I don't think he's much good in game, but I kinda like that from special characters myself. I want my own dudes to not be outshone by the prewritten ones.
And personally I don't much like his sculpt. He feels really... flat?
He’s very cool. I nice infantry tool. I’ve used him. It’s situational , but he definitely can come up big as a monster killer or just a good infantry character that’s not a 2 wound paladin.
[A]dolescents, youths and even children are easy victims of the corruption of love, deceived by unscrupulous adults who, lying to themselves and to them, draw them into the dead-end streets of consumerism.
Yeah, 2024 can bite my shiny metal *ss. Here's to hoping that 2025 isn't nearly as bad for my family!
I was expecting a gameplay and rules edition review. Instead I got a look back on Old World release events as the review. Fair enough, but would have rather have heard thoughts on this edition and whether it's worth playing or picking up/investing in.
Thanks for the feedback. I had briefly thought about covering the state of the game one year in but, as its been asked for, will now push forward with getting it done. This week's video will be on New Year resolutions but expect something soon
I agree that the lore states that The Empire at this point has a high suspicion of 'Sorcery', but it also appears to say that it depends on what part of The Empire you are talking about, and it's main religion. In Reikland, where the Sigmarite Doctrine is the major faith, yes, they absolutely despise and fear Sorcery, and will burn you at the stake for it. But in places like Talabecland and Stirland, where the worship of the other older human gods like Taal are more prominent, Wizards are more execpted, and where armies and mercenary groups are more likely to have them as part of their ranks, or even as leaders. In regards to specific practiced lores, Battle Magic would be the most execpted and tolerated, as it seen as useful, with maybe Elementalism and Illusion somewhere in the middle. Necromancy would be tolerated only by worshippers of Morr, leaving Daemonolgy to be the least tolerated and most feared, probably only utilised by corrupt and tyrannical Border Princes and those closer to The Chaos Wastes. But that's just from my own personal research on "Pre-Chaos War" Imperial Magic.
2:34 they still haven’t restocked the Bret heroes here in the US.
oh wow, that really is sub-optimal
+++ Pre-Battle Narrative +++ Roderick von Carstein cursed to himself as he watched the Nehekharan undead ranking up across the field of battle. If not for the surprising arcane prowess of their liche, his Barrow Host would never have lost the second engagement of their forces, and he would never have been forced to accept Dieter Helsnicht's all too convenient offer of aid. Even now he could feel the subtle delay in his wight bodyguard's responses as they confirmed his orders with the Doom Lord before complying. If he didn't do anything soon, then all of Roderick's ambitions would come to nothing and he would yet again find himself merely a servant to some greater master. His undead legions had won the battle against the vampire's forces, but while the battle was waged on the surface the Doom Lord's zombie servants had emptied out the Forgotten Barrow of its treasures. Even now the cowardly necromancer was escaping with them to the North aboard his Mortis Engine. True victory had slipped from Sethon's grasp, but there could be no failure in Arkhan's service. He would retrieve the artefacts he had been sent for, no matter how long it took - After all, time meant nothing to the dead. And so Sethon dispatched messengers to carry word to Prince Nahkt - prepare the legions for a long march North.
The pre-order for me Saturday 28th Dec 2024 The Empire via the UK GW website was an UTTER disaster for me. I got to the basket early at 10:20am and paid via Paypal, I authenticated via Paypal and then went fine, then I get a message when it returns me to the GW web page 'Some of your items have been removed from your basket', it removed the 'Empire Of Man Decals' and kept the rest in the basket but the order did not complete on the GW side but still it continued charging me the nearly £300 which I can see on Paypal on 'pending' and I can also see on my credit card for my bank which is linked to the Paypal account (also pending). I wrote them a quick e-mail on the Saturday and no reply; will be calling up GW Monday at 10am. It's not the end of the world and these models are not 'made to order' but they are GW website exclusives, I bought the other stuff for The Empire from Wayland and Element Games and I had zero problems at least with the payment transaction. Shocking, I may have to do a chargeback for GW via Paypal - the first one I've ever had to do in my long life (my Paypal account is around 24 years old !).
I am going to get it. Never bought the forge world resin (was contemplating the LotR bit never did with the prices). He will not really get much use I am afraid. My gaming group still plays WH 6th/7th edition so this dude is to big to fit in with the 4th/5th/6th edition knight units I have.
About numbers: LVO has had the numbers of participants to its tOW tournament increased 4 times, it’s now open for 100 ppl (although it is likely the actual tournament will settle around 80+ ppl in the end). Bear in mind WHFB was always weakest in North America. There are Countries in Europe where tOW is actually overcoming AoS numbers (Italy for one).
Interesting, that's a very good number
