(1) IL-2 The Art of Level Bombing through cloud (short)
The art of level bombing stems from a combination of planning and coordination. Here OPFR Sqn attacks a railyard from 5000 m, but the target is fully obscured by solid cloud.

I am a regular viewer of your videos. I would appreciate it if you could explain to me how your computer is built in terms of hard drives. I run some heavy simulators + STEAM and they require a large amount of space and speed. A. What drives do you have on your computer? B. Are they all SSD? C. Do you have any external drives on which your simulators sit? D. Where are your simulators installed?
How did you not get singled out by the 10 or so FW190's above the base like I do every time?
All I’m recording into obs studios is black videos. Any idea what I might be doing wrong?
It's amazing how far away from the target was considered a direct hit in ww2. No real impact from the mission but still considered a success. On a personal note, I work on the railway and find it extremely offensive that you're trying to bomb me and my colleagues 🤣
Nice one, keep em coming!
Thank you. Go back five years to look at the first ones :)
Good points! The note about the Conga Line is that easily you have a lot of planes with equal energy levels and someone with more energy can easily exploit it! 😅
And that, too, :)
Thanks Colonel! Merry Christmas!
you too, Bhenders
auuuuu new video! lets goooo

very good. Pleanty of CEM Complex engine mgt topics to look at as well.

Not so easy as it looks to be sure. The most useful for you in the game is to look at the cloudbreaking procedure: th-cam.com/video/hjsAc0yR4Aw/w-d-xo.html
"Go find it, I did enough" haha agreed. Going to go find it now. Cheers Col
Bombers survive longer in bad weather provided they dont kill themselves!
LOL. I’m a WWI flier in my heart. Still, will also use this in FSX and XPlane as it is universally applicable. Best 😊
Stick and string and Gin or Schnapps... nice.
very good video, thanks
You are welcome!
Great tutorials. Very helpful. Much appreciated.
Glad you like them, J. Now apply those principles to the WW2 genre. Good luck
Great video Ninny
Glad to hear it.
Like your posts and have tried your joystick setup with no luck. Also wondering if anyone else lost their cameras? No matter what, redownload or reset everything no luck.
Cameras: check settings for your camera settings. Same with joystick settings. If you are talking about recordings in IL2 then they can disappear when there is a game update. Not always.
Yep it would be very nice to have more people flying in MP but the problem is the steep learning curve for those who start so the only real option would be COOP against AI but since the AI is so shallow as it is this wont work aswell. I relly hope the AI in IL-2 Korea will be better than in IL-2 GB, in 2025 we will see if the genre has a future, also jets should attract more people, fingers are crossed!
Several MP servers have AI and human players. Makes the transition easy. And fun. Task Force Dingo. Combat box training. AATC. several to choose from. All good
What's the opposite of *_woke?_* non-asshole redneck says _"Screw you, troglodtye."_
I really with IL2 had a bigger audience down in oceania as it is you are cursed to play with 250 ping on eastern US servers and all of the problems associated with that
Bigger audiences are nice but I find the ping is not really an issue for us.
Nice one Ninny 👍
Thank you, sir
Very useful, but last 14 minutes is just black screen.
Appologies. It's an old video. Coconut's server is long gone. Try Combat Box or Task Force Dingo
Video title "how to identify friendly aircraft" Video contents "Thats a friendly, thats an enemy, thats a friendly, thats another friendly" Wow thanks
Aircraft recognition takes practice. Lots of it.
"nothing beats a well ventilated fuselage"
Maybe a colander?
Easy. When you engaging don't turn to him do a high yoyo works 90% of the time. Of course only applies to 1vs1 if he's accompanied by buddies keep speed up and pray
Sounds like good advice.
I used to enjoy Microsoft WW2 in the Pacific. However there were so many people cheating I stopped. Example, Hurricane with performance of an F16 in burner. Is there any of this in IL2?
Nope. You have real performance issues to deal with. Highly recommend IL-2 and the community
I am one of the 99% flying single player. I fly exclusively in VR, which seems to be a disadvantage in multi-player because VR doesn't yet provide the clarity that a good monitor does. Once VR really approaches that clarity, I might then have an interest in flying multi-player. Also, I fly IL-2 to try to satisfy my interest in WWII flying. I have watched many dozens of multi-player videos, and another reason that I am less interested in multi-player is because most of the flying that I see, with some exceptions, doesn't look like WWII missions, but more like just small duels without a real mission objective. Sort of an everyone out for kills instead of accomplishing the mission that the pilot was ordered to carry out. I think if the multi-player experience was structured more like a WWII squadrons with mission objectives, it would attract more single players. I know that some servers have begun doing this recently, and I hope that it succeeds.
You're not watching MY videos! :) MP is fantastic, and VR users have an edge over guyd like me with track IR
Thank you for the information. Would've took forever to learn on my own
thats what teamwork is all about.
aircraft performance chart - Thank You!
find Rise of Flight and find the performance charts in its manual. Flying circus has none!
Great flying & shooting! Are you a member of an online squadron?
Yes, =OPFR= you'll find us on Combat box and TAW. No WW1 for my group
Well done, scared 2 of them to death! 😆
Just as effective as bullets . Cheaper too!
Excellent.
Thank you! Cheers!
Thank you so much for your great tutorials. So far it seemed impossible to control my plane, thanks to you, I am starting to enjoy il2. Cheers!
Thank you. Ain't easy. Try the WW1 FC tutorials. much easier to understand with these simpler machines. Lessons 1 -14
Hey Colonel! After starting IL-2 1946 for the first time I came across this channel and I must say - it has helped me greatly in so many areas of understand both the aircraft and techniques of flying/dogfighting! After watching many of your previous tutorials I've noticed a significant difference in my ability to maintain and manage energy. I feel like most rookie pilots (myself included) are somewhat impatient in how they approach a lot of these areas, but taking that extra time to climb, gain altitude and not spend 20 minutes just chasing the tail of an enemy has made a world of difference! Hope this message finds you well, all the best good sir
Thanks Pin, it take hours of practice to get good. It's not an arcade game. These machines perform like real aircraft.
why il2 mosquito does not have an antenna ..
I don't know. Perhaps that was a mod.
Love how u described immersion and realism, i want so much to find people that think gaming like this, it's so damn rare. Immersion is comms, tactics, fear, and so on but yea... immersion is that not over powered experience and so on. Well explained the issue about games today all based on breaking even and actually much beyond that with greedy non sensical dlc selling... I often said that: it's just like sticker album filling... seems people are too young to understand what I mean or never collected stickers. That's why I carefully select what to play and then also decide HOW to play stuff if I decide to buy. Hope to meet you. !
You are one in a million, my friend. Most people want the easy route to kill 5 million Klingons. If you find me on Discord and send a friend request, we'd be happy to have you join us for a few missions. =OPFR= is a North American based sqn we're on usually 20:00 MST Denver. If that works for your location. TAW is coming up soon and we could use some keen players. What you don't know, we'll teach you. Good opportunity if you are interested.
@@colninny8769 i am in eu though but will definitely try to get in touch thank you!
Hey Niny, where do you recommend me to start with IL2? Just GB Stalingrad or Flying Circus? I'm a newbie that has played some WT, some Rise of Flight (loved it) and I started with GB Stalingrad and it's great but I also have a bit of a hard time. Got a joystick and trackir and I also got some custom training missions but I don't know, maybe ww2 planes are too complex and I should get Flying Circus and properly start from there =? Thanks in advance
I'd recommend you Learn How to Fly first on FC. I have 14 lessons, Once you understand how to handle the plane it's an easy step to IL-2. Let me know how you make out.
Is there any terrain deformation for things like runways where you can hit them and make it so planes have a hard time taking off
Thats a good question. Not at present. Runways are not destructable ISFAIK
"Upload a photo of anyone you like!" -Proceeds to insert a pic of Hitler... lmao. XD
Black humour Matters!!!
Can you explain what trimming at takeoff is ? I dont which one you mean. Also when I bind some of them, nothing happens in my cockpit. But besides that everything works great. Thanks Edit: I found it its under stabilizer
In some german planes (109) they have a stabilator which means the whole tailplane can be trimmed. Diff. key bind which you found. Otherwise set elevator trim. The purpose of trim to to take pressure off the stick in each flight configuration. Setting the trim for take off means you will feel very little tendancy for the nose to pitch up or down by itself once airborne in the climb. experiment. setthe trim all the way down, take off, and set it all the way up and take off. Find the comfortable position and that's it. Simple. You should be able to fly with just fingertip control not gripping on for life!
on the 109 its the big wheel on the left by your knee. there are markings for most trim sets,
Short and simple - Thank you! Next question, can you explain mixture and running cold - especially in the N-17, I have a hard time keeping that one running properly, especially when descending and trying to keep the rpm down? Much appreciated!
I dont have the N-17 but the theory is that rich mixture will actually run cooler than lean mixture. For decent try leaning it out. In practice you would want to give yourself a more shallow glide angle and take longer to get down to keep the engine warm enough to function. Great question. thank you.
@@colninny8769 Thanks Col, I think that should help a lot (especially since I was going rich vs. lean in the decent!).
I am way more shitty at landing with fully functional airplane than you with half of the 110 :) I wondered to what extent damage control can be done in this game. Thanks for sharing
Thank you. It really comes with practice. Understanding what your control surfaces actually do certainly helps. Being able to juggle power on either engine (if you have dual throttles also helps. I don't.) Even if you land it you may not walk away. Bailing out is also an option.
Love the videos, been very helpful. You should do one on rudder control during fighting and turns, unless you already have one and I haven't seen it.
The use of rudder in turns is important. It's reflected in keeping the ball centered. Accurate shooting also requires the ball to be centered. Try my Art of Straffing video, and How to improve your air gunnery skills.
Adding a comment to help the “algorithm.” Good video, good channel, algorithm-challenged. A question: do you think that computer flying at night is made more difficult by lack of seat-of-the-pants attitude awareness? Seems like seat of the pants is a two edged sword, made all the sharper at night. I believe one of the Kennedys flew a light plane into the ground at night, the conclusion being he he failed to believe his instruments.
In IL-2 there are virtually no night flying scenarios. Which means instrument flying is of little importance unless you enter cloud, as I believe JFK jnr did. I have no change in seat of the pants flying day or night. Try my Cloud Breaking procedure video.
'Knowing your opponent's aircraft" excellent sequence.
Know your enemy better than you know yourself...
I would appreciate a video about Single Player pros and cons in IL2. I still like il21946 offline because offline AI is very smart and you can command yours wingmen (they are good too and do not go far away after a few seconds). How is the AI in IL2 ?
1946 scratches so many itches
I have a Tournaments video which describes what's missing in single player mode. The current AI is very predictable. No substitute for a good human opponent.
Played IL2 /46 and GBS since 2005. Had so much fun with my squad mates (who became real life friends). DCS has pretty much supplanted GBS in our squad now and it’s not my cup of tea. Great while it lasted though 👍🏻 I just fly career mode off line now.
IL-2 multiplayer has come such a long way: try Tactical Air War server, Combat Box server, or Finnish Server.
I play War Thunder. I also am too old and too slow for top tier battles and prefer vehicles near WWII vintage or thereabouts. My channel is _much_ smaller with 233 subs. I think it has a lot to do with how niche my gameplay is as I _only_ play the battle pass challenges. I have subscribed as I enjoy watching vintage aircraft in action.
You should try il2 it's pretty good
Thanks Erich. I encoourage you to leave the arcade world behind (WT) and step into IL-2. I'm old as well, but you don't have to be an ace fighter pilot to enjoy. I mostly do bombing runs supported by the fighter jocks.
