1968 Eclipse Blue Vauxhall Victor FD 2000
This was the best version of the 1967/8 GM transition to "Coke-bottle" waistlines. Just beautiful - front, back and side! Holden's Coke-bottle model was the 1968 HK Kingswood - and it's similar; but not as sleek and modern as the counterpart Victor.. But Holden got back on top with their HQ series of 1971 which was part of GM's next shift to glassy "organic" lines. The HQ Kingswood was a global masterpiece; while the FE Victor was simply "good".
My dad had an h reg white estate fd victor in the 70s he towed his caravan with it mar 128h was the reg slant 4 2000cc he had engine rebuilt and bored to around 2300cc would love to find it but sadly i reckon it bit the dust long ago
I owned a navy blue FD in 1974 A lovely cruising machine. Now at 76 I wish I still had it 😢
does the original car used in Randell n Hopkirk still exist?
Apparently scrapped in 1976
@@fonzypop Thats a shame when you consider it was a very popular series in its day,the car caught my interest as we,ve been watching Randell n Hopkirk on Great TV channel 189,its on tonight at 9.00pm.Been on every night for the last couple of weeks.
Wow. How has she avoided terminal tin worm. Keep that lovely beast rolling.
She looks great with all her lights on🙂 I take it she has a Leyland 510 engine
Yes although it’s a 501
@@fonzypop I’ve never heard of a Leyland 501 engine… Only the 510 which is what most of the Leyland Nationals had
Brilliant video just a thought it would be awesome if the prototype Deltic could run again as is my understanding the prototype Deltic has very similar Napier D18/25 power units surely it could be rebuilt with donor production Napier power units or at least perhaps fitted with spare Napier production Deltic power units certainly food for thought
Our family had one of these in the 70's. One night in the spring of 1978 it spontaneously combusted and was a write-off. Luckily the fire was noticed and the fire brigade put it out before the garage caught fire. I've never considered buying a Vauxhall!
The later FDs had the alternator wiring running under the sump, the movement of the engine would cause the wires to rub through and cause a short
Engine sounds sweet !
A new set of piston rings and overhaul those injectors..
Nice Paint job! dx
Such a Good Looking car in their day, especially the VX490 version! dx
Had a gold one in the late 70s. Loved but sadly wrecked it! 🙈
I had one of these in green, complete with green interior ! What an absolute crock of shit it was, and only 10 years old at the time.
Lovely looking car. I was offered a metallic green VX4/90 back in the 80's but being unemployed at the time (wasn't everyone?) I couldn't scrape together the £95 the owner, a friends older brother, was asking for it!
Best looking British car ever. I used to have 2 fd Ventoras, loved them.
Beautiful looking car.
I love fd victors.
The body side is similar to my 68 Galaxie which is also white.
I love the sexy back end of a Victor FD
I love the american shape of these and i ran a FD in the early 90s as an every day car, but now i have classic lorries, i love your videos.
Engine bay beckons...come work on me!
All change...GMs latterly built to last 70 000 miles. GM Europe now flogged off to conglomerate that competes within its self. Fast forward 5 years - Gosen on board to straighten things out - GM buys up brands at fire sale prices !
They rusted, so did most cars then, but the styling was so good. When the VX 4/90 came out, this gave the Victor the performance it deserved and was better equipped.
Cars i can understand .
i drove this bus in service working for South glouc bus and coach
Wow 👏 I had 3 of these back in the day mine had bench seats my first ever car absolutely loved it showing my age now lol
Saltersgate.
Best video on this car so far . Saw one in shell form at a garage
FD Victors / Ventoras were such a well proportioned and actually pretty shape for a saloon.
I remember them new , much more refined than the boxy mk2 Cortina. They seemed to sell well when they came out.
This may seem an odd project, bit this car (or others very like it) represents the childhood memories of the world gliding past the rear window of so many people now we'll into their fifties. I have a restored "exotic", but it is not particularly fast and probably offers no more visceral a driving experience than or of these FD Vauxhalls. This is a.lovely car and it is so representative of every High Street and every car park and every Motorway on 1970. Good job! Enjoy the car. It looks good.
Jeff randall car
This year I'm having to make do with virtual Leyland Nationals as I won't see any real ones. The sound of the 510 tickover always makes me smile. Is this bus still preserved? So many have fallen by the wayside- for buses of a certain age, although it's easier said than done, preserved should mean preserved. Was it fumigating the shed near the end?
Yes she’s still a work in progress
Sad to see her so rusty but its a beast of a car.We had a dark green one with a huge front bench, naturally we put a stretch leopard print cover on it which looked very stylish! It had pre ignition issues a hem!Got nicked and police chased up a3 to Portsmouth with a boot full of church roof lead and wrecked the engine.
Paradise.......deltics forever!
With them being a 2-stroke they used to blow a lot of carbon particles out of the exhaust as they pulled away. A night departure would show many of those particles were in fact incandescent. There's a video of a deltic with an exhaust fire. Probably the oil & carbon build up in the collector after being used on low power for many hours. They need to be given a good thrash to burn the carbon out. Zontar would have ended up cross-eyed if he used the video to assist masturbation.
Yes it does brings back lovely memory's
Stunning job, thank you
Jeff randall/itc want their car back....lol
what happened to randalls original car?
Scrapped, always believed to have been seen in a Welsh scrap yard in the mid 70s, but someone has commented on one of my other videos that knew about it, again scrapped. Have a read of the comments on the other R&H videos
@@fonzypop White Vauxhall Ventora RXD997F Last taxed until October 1979.
was Jeff Randall's flat and the office filmed from real locations then? l thought they were sets built at the studios!?
Jeff's flat was in St John's Wood, London. Not sure about the office
The exterior of the office was in Harrow. The interior was a set, I think.
l used to know someone who said Kenneth Cope who played the ghost in r and hopkirk was her uncle!very nice girl too l met Kenneth later on told him what my friend said and he said it rang a bell so they must be related !
Not been taxed since '93!!
Looks fun. Loved R+H
Excellent footage, thankyou.
Once the baby Deltic is running there will be 8. Or 7 1/2, depending on how you view class 23's.....
I like the American styling of the Vauxhall Victor FD, that Ford copied for the Mk3 Cortina. It appears that the 1600 has fewer survivors than the 2000 and 3.3 Ventora. My late granddad was a taxi driver and had LVM866G, a black 2000 but it only had a short life, destroyed in a motorway accident in 1973. How many FDs are still running today in Britain?
Hard to say, we guess maybe 500 survive, and maybe 200 on the road? Might be being generous there, but we did manage to get over 50 into Market Harborough last year for the 50th
One of my fathers best mates bought the Vauxhall victor RXD996F from a garage in London about 1970, and I was fortunate enough (being a big fan, aged about 10) to actually go for a ride in it! Can you imagine the excitement I felt at the time! I love the show, its timeless.
Wow!! Tracy that’s an incredible memory! Any ideas what happened to the car?
Sadly I heard that it ended up in a scrape yard a year or two later, it was bought somewhere in London, from the studio's, to then live in Broadstairs, where I lived. I understand that they used several Victors, only difference being the colour of the interior. These cars were also used in other production, I think "Department S" was one of them.Trace.
Hi Tracy, urban legend had it, the car was spotted in a Welsh scrap yard in 1976. From your experience, this was not the case! Pretty new car when scrapped by the sounds of it! The Grecian white / Casino red Victor 2000 is the holy grail of all FDs due to the programme
Hi Tracy, if I give you my email address, would you mind drafting a few notes, that we could use in our club mag?
Yes I believe the car was scraped when still young, not sure what happened to its brother (RXD997F) which was used by the studio's in various shows.
I wonder if zontar was there👾
Yes 😂
