$500k for a starter house, median household income $85k for Portland area. Median price to income ratio is 7.2x (it was 3.7x 50 years ago). That's your problem and it is nationwide. Rates have simply normalized, they are not high.

Don't overlook Amity as another rural town in the area. Similar to Yamhill, not as big as Carlton but closer to Salem if you need to travel south.

Yamhill does NOT have an adequate water supply to accommodate more homes. We were at level 2 water restriction this year and it wasn’t the first. The city council vetoed a new housing development due to this urgent issue. The planning commission voted no on the capacity to build more houses. Yamhill’s fire district can’t answer the calls now as needed. We don’t have a sufficient volunteer base. Don’t move here!

Gaston does not have a Human Bean, we do have a fantastic coffee shop but is not the human bean, just better. We also no longer have a libary. Hagg lake is not the only thing Gaston is known for. Also races in banks are Saturday nights. I get what you're trying to do, but it sounds a lot like mockery of our rural communities.

You should show the county map of the US states and voting results along side that map you showed us @13:44. Then people would know why the Oregon counties of Wallowa, Union, Baker, Malheur, Grant, Harney, Morrow, Wheeler, Crook, Lake, Sherman, Jefferson and Klamath have all voted to leave Oregon for Idaho. Why pay those high taxes when there is no representation. The people of the metro mostly have the illness Well done on video quality.

There’s a certain political demographic that greatly exaggerates the situation, here, and I agree it’s looking a lot better than during the height of the pandemic crisis. The opioid epidemic combined with all the lower paying restaurant and service jobs lost due to lockdown, yeah…that’s a recipe for a houseless crisis. West coast weather brings them, too. Commercial propert/offices are cheap now because so many people moved to remote work. I came here in ‘95, so I’ve seen it get a lot more spread out & crowded. Traffic can be baaaad, depending on the time & direction of your commute. Bottom line? If I move out it will be because of the 8 months of grey skies, not crime. Seriously , the grey gets crazy making for some of us, by about the fifth month. 🤪 I think Portlanders were spoiled by so many years of hardly any typical urban challenges. We don’t really have any problems that any larger city doesn’t have. And more populated places like Chicago, NY, LA, have more. I still think Portland has way more positives than negatives, for sure!

    • @PortlandOregonLife

Sadly, too many impatient road warriors from California and Washington started road raging in Oregon over a decade ago and has progressively gotten worse with more transplants from those two states moving in. Both Washington and California drivers will tail gate and run you off the road for going the speed limit. Some Oregonians on the other hand, are too polite to a fault, where they are breaking driving laws and could easily get others in accidents.

    • @PortlandOregonLife
