Nope, these trains’ max speed is 140.

I’m aware of this, but they’re not allowed to go above 125mph so therefore this could be considered “full speed”.

@@BestC30 I just said that they’re not allowed to go 140, as the Victorian signalling systems can’t cope with it, so therefore 125mph is the max speed for this line, therefore can be considered full speed!

They are very much still in operation and tilting as much as ever! Although not run by Virgin anymore. Avanti West Coast took over the franchise around 4 years ago, and are running the same fleet of trains, although they have heavily refurbished them. No plans to replace them anytime soon!

Thanks! Yes these two stations are both around the northern boundary of London - about 20 minutes on the slow train out of Kings Cross 😊 and sadly the UK high speed train types are all gradually becoming the same as the old HSTs make way for the new Hitachi trains!

By the way, where would you say are the best locations/stations of this type around London to see the most fast trains passing by at high speed, with the best variety of styles? Just in case I can get over there someday while I am still able, and without any pandemic-related hassle. And do the rail systems allow people on the platforms without a ticket now, just to do recordings? Couldn't do that in UK when I was last there in mid-late 1970s.

@@HRHolm-bi6zu It is a good question, and a difficult one. As I said, the variety has really gone down in the last few years when it comes to the fastest trains. I would maybe recommend somewhere on the West Coast Mainline between Euston and Milton Keynes? There's a lovely quiet station called Cheddington on a very straight part of the line, where you'll get Avanti West Coast Pendolinos and Voyagers smashing through at around 120mph, as well as some other trains also going through nearly as fast. Otherwise Brookman's Park really is as good as any, although you won't see the same trains today as appear in my video! I used to just buy a return ticket to the station I wanted to go to, and just stayed on the platform - they didn't seem to mind. I'm not sure about the policy on platform tickets etc nowadays. Long time since I've done a day-out like this!

@@mixmam1 Thanks for the suggestions, I will make note of them for possible future reference. From all the UK train videos I have seen, apparently recording of trains from platforms is now permitted in the UK???? As I observed in the comment box for another video, when I was in London in 1976 I was intercepted and admonished by a plainclothes police officer for trying just to take a simple couple of snapshots on a London Underground station platform. Had something to do with IRA terrorist threat, I think. However, before any future possible trip I would do more research on the platform access and recording permission aspects.

You may be right! I think some restrictions may have come in since this was filmed... there's a definite speed restriction through Watford Junction now which I don't remember a decade ago when they used to gas it through!

Class 220 are absolute garbage and it’s ridiculous to run diesel trains under the wires.

They’re still running at full tilt up and down this line every day :)
