Treasure Of The Rice Terraces
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 4 เม.ย. 2023
A Filipino-Canadian filmmaker travels to Buscalan, a secluded mountain community, to learn about the history and symbolism of Kalinga tattoos from the legendary artist Apo Whang-od and her apprentices. The film explores how this old practice, once banned and despised in Philippine society, has now evolved into a chic and in-demand type of body art that has become a source of pride and belonging for many Filipinos, both at home and abroad. The documentary also highlights the importance of preserving the tattoo culture for future generations and the challenges faced by the community in doing so. It also delves into the issues of stolen mummified bodies, cultural appropriation, stigmatization, and discrimination faced by tattooed individuals.

Have you submitted this in any film festival here in Canada. Hope Telus carry this documentary in their collection.
The full length feature is currently in production and will be going to festivals late 2024. It will be releasing on Knowledge Network in Canada.
@@TreasureOfTheRiceTerraces Thanks for the update. BTW did you apply for some funding from the Canadian Film board or from the province you're from? I know that independent Canadian film makers can apply for some funding, based on the credits that I see of independent films. Try also TIFF, you can never know considering that one of your feature is the oldest tattoo artist that was featured in an INTERNATIONAL fashion magazine franchise. GOOD LUCK
There no art in tattooing your body as God himself made a beautiful art of making you, as a 66 years man I been in many of those close door been locked for many years and I said always no to the tattoos, as body is the temple of God most high.
Just went there last weekend, now I can't stop consuming content related to tapping tattoo. Can't wait for your video.
What you dont know about tattoos in the cordillera is the quantities of your tattoos symbolise the number of the people you beheaded but now it just represent art and culture
Wow what a nice trailer! Just wondering if u guys went to our studio? Coz u featured the local guy below our studio in Pasig "Katribu Tatu" . Well, the face is associated to a criminal but he's just a local in our town, hes harmless. ✌️♥️😅
Hey Jean! Thanks so much for the incredibly kind comment. It’s not our intention to paint him as a criminal. Just showing different faces of Filipinos. We did go to their studio to visit them, we met them in 2020 but the studio was closed when we went back in January.

Bruh!!
Austronesians - the ancestors of mainstream Filipinos wore tattoos. Read the Visayan Pintados; Antonio Pigafettat. Thanks to Christianity, a tattoo became synonymous with criminality.
The Boxer Codex. The Philippines is the land of Ophir.
