EP 3 | ArchiTech Office Tours | Mamou-Mani Architects & Fab Pub
Join us on our third Archi-Tech Office Tour where we tour around prominent offices and sit down and talk with the tech people behind the scenes of the projects you see online.
In this episode we tour Mamou Mani Architects and Fab Pub with Mathias. We tour the two sister companies founded by Arthur Mamou-Mani and talk with him about the tools and technology they use. Mamau-Mani has many digital fabrication projects at the heart of the firm, a focus on 3D printing, this resulted in them branching out their own fabrication lab and opening it up to the public...now known as Fab Pub!

What is Architecture?? I tell my kids’ if you can draw ✍️ you will never starve. Your dad’ could break my back…take the house and bank account!! I will still be ok!! All I have to do’ sit in a wheel chair on Market Street Sydney and show off my designs.. people will come to me’ Not because I am in a wheel chair BUT because they genuinely like my designs!! Now I may have to modify my original designs based on clients budget BUT that’s ok!! Not everyone is a movie 🎥 star who can afford PRADA designed 100k dress BUT the fact remains “if the house of PRADA” wanted to design $1000 dollar dresses for the mass market “they are most welcome” BUT the house of PRADA” chooses NOT to play in that segment!!!!

🎯 Key Takeaways for quick navigation: Wanyu He, co-founder of Lux AI and excool, is a pioneer in utilizing AI in architecture since 2016. She transitioned from traditional architecture practice, including time at OMA, to founding excool to explore tech-driven solutions. Excool focuses on relieving architects from repetitive tasks, emphasizing the value of critical thinking and decision-making in design. The company collaborates with architects, empowering them with tech tools for competitions and projects. Lux AI, a branch of excool, offers a public AI tool for image diffusion generation, allowing users to explore architectural designs. Wanyu He's journey highlights the shift towards tech-driven solutions in architecture, bridging traditional practices with innovative AI applications. The early adoption of AI in architecture, starting in 2016, led to the development of tools like Lux AI, revolutionizing design processes. Excool operates as a consultancy, providing AI solutions to architects rather than offering a publicly available subscription service. Architects are exploring AI image generation, with some using AI as inspiration and others focusing on using it as a tool. Different countries approach AI in architecture differently, with some focusing on fast work due to development demands. Architects need to rethink their role in the face of AI, focusing on problem-solving and societal/environmental contributions. AI-driven models like LookX's ABC (AI-driven BIM on Cloud) aim to revolutionize architecture by integrating deep learning with expert systems. ABC aims to create intelligent BIM models that can generate precise 3D geometry along with associated rules and regulations. The role of the architect in AI-driven design involves guiding the machine's outputs and making decisions based on generated content. Architects should embrace AI technology, seeing it as a tool to enhance design possibilities rather than a threat to their profession. AI has the potential to streamline design processes, allowing architects to focus more on creative thinking and problem-solving. Architects face numerous challenges in detecting, realizing, and rectifying design issues, creating a demand for innovative solutions. AI is likened to a tool, akin to cars; it accelerates processes but doesn't replace human reasoning. AI's role varies from linear task completion to idea generation, blurring the line between tool and collaborator. Current AI is narrow and lacks autonomous thinking, unlike AGI (Artificial General Intelligence), which remains in the realm of science fiction. Architects should grasp their role before integrating AI tools, ensuring confidence in technology adoption. Understanding AI basics and theory can guide architects in selecting suitable technologies. Cross-disciplinary collaboration is essential for future architectural practices, integrating technology seamlessly. Exciting developments outside AI, such as virtual reality and space technology, offer new dimensions for architectural exploration. Made with HARPA AI
