      If your wifi hardware supports the precision time protocol, class b streams can be forwarded over Wifi. I have not seen this yet, but the IEEE specification supports AVB streams over Wifi.The time latency is specified with 50 ms, with class b streams.

    Thank you so much for this video. I have a question I am looking into buying a PreSonus® StudioLive® Series III 16R with the following purpose: Use it connected to my computer for my church setting as the main mixer, have all the inputs sent to Waves SuperRack Performer software, have it processed with waves plugins and then sent out the 16R XLRs to FOH My question is which connection to my computer (Mac) should I use, AVB or USB? Which should give me the least latency possible? Which one is more stable? I know a lot of the latency have to do with my computer processing power, but is there a difference in speed transfer between AVB and USB that I would favor one of them?

    going to try this. use case is looking for way to route audio from macbook to the studio machine, macbook is used as audio effect processor for live input. macbook does not have a native eithernet so hoping i can get this working using a eithernet dongle via usb c/ thunderbolt. i have all machines eithernet via my virgin fiber hub at the moment for my network moving files around. im thinking i will probably need to make a direct eithernet LAN connection between the two machines for this to work. really glad to have found your video. many thanks :)

    Thank you for this video! Unfortunately for me, I just upgraded to a new MacStudio and it came running Sonoma. They seem to have changed a in the last three years and this doesn't work anymore. Can't find any tutorials specific to Sonoma (or Ventura...not sure when the setup changed) and I can't seem to figure out what's going on. The Mac does not show the AVB devices as being available in the Audio setup and I can't get it to work in acquired or any other mode for that matter. It doesn't show up in Network Device setup. Hi Ray. I am so happy I stumbled on your video. I am new to audio routing on the Mac and have been trying to figure out how to send audio from one mac to another. I have multiple mics being mixed on one Mac in Loopback and want to send the final output to another Mac to be streamed out via Zoom with video. The two computers are on the same network. AVB seems to be the answer, but I have a question. When I go to the Window menu in AVB Audio Configuration I don't have the same items as you and don't have the Simple Audio Configuration option. drive.google.com/file/d/1Z3p2Z4YsVQ06grrh2FrexMtzsliCNKVR/view?usp=share_link. Also, mine is called ATDECC Controller? It all seems similar, but different enough. I am on Mac OS 13.6. Any idea if I am missing something here?

    I was trying to set this up on my new Mac Studio M2 Max (Studiolive 32sc & NSB 16.8), some differences in the AVB util. No simple virtual audio window any more. It's all under the ATDECC controller. With those differences in mind, I did enable it on the new mac studio, but could never get return audio out of the mains. Banged my head against this for a few days until I broke down and got a specific avb thunderbolt adapter (sonnet thunderbolt avb adapter). Worked like a charm, got return audio out the mains. I'm not sure if there's been changes to the internal nic on the studio or not but I thought it would be a good idea to post this here in case others are having the same issue.

    Hi Ray, Thank you for this informative video!!! Since you know AVB inside out maybe you could shine some light on my following problem: I would like to set up a small home recording studio as follows (this would be of course the aim, I don't know if this is at the present stage of development possible): 1. at my Mac I would like something with at least 2 mic and maybe 2 line ins, with 2 or 4 outputs for monitors and maybe headphones - something small 19", 2. the interface at my mac should be an DAW connection point to the mac and also be able to connect digital stage boxes via ethernet (like Presonus NSB or Midas DL32 or Behringer SD16), 3. there should be a possibility to connect via ethernet personal monitoring like Presonus EarMix 16M or Midas DP48 - it would be best if this was possible with power over ethernet and directly to the stage boxes. I know that I have mixed different connection protocols, like AVB and AES50, but it was just to show what kind of solution I am looking for. Any chance that such a setup might be possible without robbing a bank? Kind regards, Wojciech Migda

    Quick question for you Ray, and maybe for everyone else here in the community. I managed to get everything connected and set up except for one last crucial step. My Studiolive 32SC cannot see my Mac as an available AVB Input stream, so I cannot route any sound from the Mac into the Studiolive mixer. Everything shows up in the AVDECC Connection Matrix and I can connect all the streams there, but the Mixer cannot see the streams from the Mac. Does anyone have any suggestions or thoughts on why this might happen? Thank you!

  • @verbosemusic
    @verbosemusic 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Thanks for the explanation! A use case it's not mentioned but it totally works is setting up to 64 channels between two Macs with just an ethernet cable. Adding Loopback to the equation you can have routing independent from the DAW and share the same regular (non AVB) USB device (or aggregated devices) I/O between those two computers! It's amazingly stable and latency is great. Audio routed to the same interface output is summed. Super useful for live uses like redundancy setups, two people (two DAW) performances, offloading CPU, audio and video/light independent processes (audio reactivity) and maaany more stuff I can't think of now. If you happen to have two Macs, I suggest to make a video specifically for a two Mac setup with USB audio interface, a lot of people would be interested. Cheers!

      I know AVB “requires” an Ethernet cable, somewhere between the Macs (at least was a key to understanding for me). I have 2 Macs: each with an Apple Thunderbolt2 to Ethernet dongle (actually one is, first, a T3-to-T2-dongle, then a T2-to-Ethernet-dongle) & an Ethernet cable between them for 64 tracks. If I connect straight to one Mac’s Ethernet port, I seem to always be pulled into being limited to 16 tracks….(maybe I’m wrong & every Config defaults to 16 🤷‍♂️ I dunno 🙄) I know even an old Thunderbolt2 port is MUCH faster than a 1Gb Ethernet port (& the Ethernet cable just rides along at any speed it’s connected to…mine is Cat8) Btw I just got 2 of these ($6 for 10ft?? 🥳) & the first Ethernet cable I’ve weirdly ever thought of as “gorgeous” 🙄 DanYee Cat 8 Ethernet Cable, Nylon Braided 10ft High Speed Network Cable LAN Cable Wires CAT 8 RJ45 Ethernet Cable Cord 3ft 10ft 16ft 26ft 33ft 50ft 66ft 100ft (Black 10ft) a.co/d/4uDx3ho
