Although this wasn't part of Shankland's plan for the city it was from that timeline. It will be odd to drive or walk by there when this immense complex is finally all gone and levelled. Really an end of an era when you think of all the people who were born and passed while it stood there. The only thing left from Shankland''s plan ( mercifully most of which never got built ) is St John's Precinct and that is looking hopelessly tired and out of place and I know people who only go in there because it has an Aldi ! That will be the next big thing to go in 5 to 10 years

There is no way that was planned if it was there is no way that the crane driver would have been allowed to stay in his cab also in the video you see 2 guys on site walking out of view of the camera they would have deffo got covered in dust and also the dust cloud that did throw up went over onto the street .....and dont forget there is asbestos all over that old hospital and there is no way they would allow all that dust into the public areas (ROADS AND PAVEMENTS)

It deffo collapsed last week im pretty close to that and was in my garden and heard 2 load collapse noises and right away i said to my missus that the 2 clatters if thats what you call it of buildings falling to the ground......the last time i heard that noise was those row of shops coming down in 1 go

My late father worked on the construction of this. Work was delayed for some time. The surgeons of the time requested that the operation theatres were on the top floor. The New "New" Royal, whose construction was delayed, was requested by surgeons who wanted a certain theatre layout. Was the old "New" Royal ever fully paid for? Is the ventilation shaft in the shape of an inverted surgeon's mallet still standing?

Footage of the collapse is all over social media - some office workers captured it nearby. Massive cloud of dust went everywhere. Asbestos also I reckon.

The main tower wont be down untill September august I work on there removing the asbestos still abit of work before it comes down

Main building you pointed to mate isn't coming down untill September DSM Demolition told me. It's main entrance and building above it coming down after these tall buildings have been finished taking down 👍

I didn't upload mate as none of the large machines were running and it was shut down for the weekend, DSM don't work weekends mate so even though I got the footage I just didn't bother to release it 👍

It’s a bit unreal when you see something built like this large hospital and then demolished in your lifetime the whole community of houses and families moved out of Kensington to make way for this hospital

I have done that walk along Hope Street linking both cathedrals a few times, some nice pubs along the way. The internal architecture of the Anglican Cathdral is superb.

The Pentecost mosaic incorporated into the Unity Chaple was salvaged from my parish church, the Holy Ghost, in Ford Bootle. The church was demolished some years ago, it was said it was built too close to the Leeds - Liverpool canal and the foundation started to give way on the canal side! It's some time since I visited the cathedral, many thanks for the video.
