"Silver line"? We call that flat rope. Nice Green Lee cap stain running on the drill to pull in the pulling rope! I never seen that before? Nice Tony! I know the sound of that Hoag Davis self powered reel trailer. We have one. They are great trailers. More user friendly than the Posi Plus. Great rigging there. I can see you're a great teacher. Those vaults are super clean there. Ours don't have a concrete floor. Just process over a ground grid. You have some nice equipment! I can see the utility you work for has an unlimited budget? We used to buy great equipment here but cost cutting from the hostile takeover 12 years ago has squeezed our budgets. We make do with a lot less. Great video! Great content!
@@johnclyne6350 wazzup John , that hoag Davis is one die hard work horse that doesn’t stop, and thanks about the rigging, I tell the kids to always look around and see what we can use , and after time gone by thank God the equipment has been coming in. Stay safe over there..

I must be missing something why did you boom the new pole over those homes when there was a road right next to the poles?

I can't imagine having that go off in my face. You know they have zero safety equipment. Love to see the tools after they are vaporized. I used to work on DC power. Tens of thousands of potential amps sitting there ready to go (battery strings that could fill your house). Worst I ever had occur was a 10ga wire come out of a crimp and of course touch a relay rack. Maybe a whole 15 amps. LOL.
I like the videos, I've watched a few now... I do have one constructive criticism....maybe try to limit how often and close together on your videos you say "Stand By". Theres absolutely nothing wrong with saying it....its just the way they come out edited it ends up being quite often.

I started in Da Bronx Cable Gang in 1987. I loved the camaraderie. We had 5 guys on a gang. We didn’t have all the modern stuff you have. I would have thought you would have put a rubber mat on the chimney where it was rubbing on the out. I transferred out to the Overhead to be a lineman. I miss those years. I know all those fancy knots too. Great crew! Great content!
@@johnclyne6350 wazzup John, i would have if the plate wasn’t there but you know once you get it moving and have some momentum going and super long span and super heavy and dead weight, your not stopping pulling uphill, thanks and stay safe over there..😎👍
@ I just so happen to see that. I was only in the Cable Gang for a year. I loved the work. They weren’t offering an apprenticeship, so I left. I like those clean new manholes. Only water in them? I was used to breaking down paper lead cable to put a rigging chain on the cable. We knew it was oil filled cable. What I didn’t know was that it was loaded with PCB’s? Some of the manholes were made of brick with wood duct banks. Most were precast concrete with a concrete lid. I was on a few jobs where they had to lower a “stick” into the hole. The stick was a railroad tie. They would stand it up & drive wooden wedges under & over to jam it into the floor & ceiling. Then put a big steel block with a rigging chain in line with the duct bank to pull the cable out with braided steel rope. Most cable came out with your method though. Those old riggers are long dead now though. I still keep in touch with one retiree & he moved out of state. I moved out of state too. I’m a trainer of line apprentices coming into the trade. It’s my retirement gig for a couple of years. I subscribed to see your other videos. Great content!
@ John all great memories I been around where i used it many times before we started getting better equipment and better blocks for steel and rope , and pulled in lead-covered-oil-filled cable , and pulled out, do you remember the ( steel shoot ) , well I am glade your doing great and passing on the trade and some mix of old school techniques , stay safe brother..
@@linemanundergroundworld4854 The (steel shoot) was made of flexible corrugated steel. It was in two lengths. A 5’ one & a 8’. It had a 6” opening for going inside the duct & a flared side for where the cable first went through in the beginning. Absolutely I remember those. They don’t use them anymore? When I started we used “Black Bear” pulling grease. It came in an orange & black 5 gallon steel can. It was smelly dark green stuff & it was very stringy & gooey. If you got that on your clothes the stain never came out even with Lestoil. When we threw the clothes out the original stain was still on it years later. I remember in the cable coroner’s lab where they break down old splices that were taken out of service because they were just old? The Black Bear was still gooey 60 years later. Back then in the early 1900’s those old splicers sweated their joints to last forever. The craftsmanship back then was impeccable. There was no way water was going to get inside those joints. Before we had a rodding truck. We had 10’ fiberglass rods that had threaded brass ends. We had to screw them together. We had to manually Rod the ducts if the rope broke. Later they got a powered rodder truck. Do you still brush & mandrel ducts after a cable burn out? For trucks we had a cable puller truck with a “Adam’s” pto powered winch. They were supposedly the best? It was located just behind the cab. The second truck was the cable truck. It had 2 reels on it. A full reel & an empty on the back. They were called load luggers. They were primitive but worked. It had a swing arm on it for lowering & loading the empty. After the cable was pulled out on the street we would roll the old cable on the empty as the truck drove forward. Ah the memories are flooding back. Thanks for the memories. When I left they got a couple of Luger pullers like your trucks now. They could only hold one reel of cable or an empty. I left for the Line Department in 1990.
@ yes sir i remember that grease bucket, and when we remove that lead cable the grease looks as fresh as when they installed it and yes when it got on your clothes you might as well throw it away 😂 the old gang trucks with the steel behind it they would get mostly the new helpers and hype them up and told them they were going to be cable Forman 😭 and give them the ceiling bar to guide the steel cable on the reel under tension 😂 you said it, great memories brother 👍😎
