Interesting video, I know where all these are....
made me laugh when you said you went from Edinburgh to York to Darlington hahahah Darlington hahahahaha. loll don't be offended, I'm from darlo. But really.. York + Edinburgh vs Darlo lollllllllll hahahahaha
I have drank in every single one of those pubs 😎
The summer house and the new Hampton worth a visit
I remember the spoons being a nightclub in the 80's, called Flix... yep it used to be a cinema. Fond memories of Bloko...our house untill '79 was the one next door to the Peel, my dad used to get a jug to take out.
Very well done for getting through that. A few crackers which are worth shouting about but, otherwise, a sad reflection of what Carlsberg Marstons have done to the pubs in this country.
i grew up in walsall and it was my old stomping ground till around '88. I went there a year or so back. What a fecking shite hole the center has become. Propped the bar up at the Lynton a few times, which is at the top of the town btw. Highgate brewery was about 1/4 mile from where you were standing, i believe it to have been converted into apartments.
Saddens me to see the Horse and Jockey like this. We used to go there in the late 80's early 90's, there was a fantastic restaurant upstairs 'Rogers Rib Room' if i recall.
Amazing how many had sky sports playing. I’ve been to towns before where I’m desperate to watch a game and struggled.
The dun cow has actually had an upgrade in many ways. When I was a teen (15 years ago) it was one of my haunts as my mate was a bar tender and it was proper shabby. We were the only kids that went in and it was always packed. It never used to have music and had no screens lol but it has always been a bit skeezy
Can you write me a list of the full crawl please? tempted to do a crawl session on 29th Nov if randoms wanna join? Think there are a few food challenges along the way... so easy scope to film if you wanna be part of that?!
I do full write ups of every crawl we do on our facebook page mate... plus there's a full list of the 4100+ pubs we've covered so far as the pinned posts at the top of the page on there... facebook.com/TheGreatBritishPubCrawl
As a newbie to this site, can I ask do you finish the drinks in each pub and is it on the same day, I'd be on the floor, so far the top one is the vine I reckon.
Haha, welcome to the show and thanks for being here! Oh yes... I always finish my drink before I leave!
@@thegreatbritishpubcrawl blimey....i thought you just had a sip, I'm impressed , no drunken slurred dialogue you must have the constitution of am ox.
I'll echo the comment about Shifnal & Oakengates 👍 and I agree with you on the bland Wye valley ones. I run a monthly quiz in the Boot so I'm biased, but I do like the Pheasant as well
Wednesfield is in wolverhampton mate and the new Vic and merry boys are not in wendsfeild or Willenhall they are east field slash east park area of wolverhampton
Glad you ended it at Subside. Always a great time there.
Loved the Blue Anchor and the Spingo Ales. Unfortunately we only managed to get in there once due to being on detachment at RNAS Culdrose nearby. There's a song (Sea Shanty) about Admiral Benbow.
The second pub, the railway. I grew up in that pub. They’ve ruined it.
They used to let anyone in these pubs. No I’d or whatever. No one on the doors. Vulnerable type of people would be surrounded by hoards of a type of men. A gang of these men in every pub circling these others. This was about fifteen or twenty years ago. All seems so clear and obvious to me now.

Love those original features preserved in the Cock Hotel that were only installed in the brand new extension 3 years ago 😆 To be fair it shows what a great job Jules did in extending and restoring the old place, it lost all of its character and charm and the beer isn't as great as it used to be before Jukes, but lovely to go in there still and is a credit to them.
Did you say £8.90 for a pint ? Jeez wept if you did !
The vine is the best pub in wednesfield. 🐺🇬🇧
Ironbridge is way better than Wellington
Shifnal and Oakengates are worth a look , the bulls heads in St. George's is a class old school public house
Telford not really Shropshire anymore comes under Telford and Wrekin
That’s just the council mate it is still in the country of Shropshire they ain’t moved it.
County innit.
No customers in The Dun Cow compared to other pubs so you'd think they'd put two & two together & turn it down !!
Not exactly rocket science is it? haha... really bizarre!
I went for a crawl round bridgenorth last night on your recommendation only to find you doing my locals. Thank you for the great videos.
Hope you enjoyed Bridgnorth mate
@@thegreatbritishpubcrawl it’s was lovely. 1st joules pub I’ve been to and it was great. Will go to others.
hi dale, great vid, regarding the old abbeydale cinema i understand it received a six figure sum grant for repairs some time ago, but nothing seems to be happening !
Wow... that's sad to hear. I hope someone can get it up to scratch again one day though.
Willenhall and Wednesfield are either side of the Walsall/Wolverhampton border.
I'm pretty sure I said that a few times in the video mate...
Man of the hour...Trevor Power!
How many pubs in total now? You should give a grand total on every video. I think you said 4,000 a while ago. My total done over the last 30 years or so is 6,332 with 71 Red Lions and 1,305 in The Black Country. There are many definitions of Black Country but I count it as anything within the boroughs of Dudley, Sandwell, Walsall and Wolverhampton.
Give the facebook page a follow mate... facebook.com/TheGreatBritishPubCrawl - there's the full list on there of what we've done plus write ups for everything as we go. I think as of the end of this video it was 4100
Played at the Radley many times! Keep up the work fella!
Jag, NagsHead, Pavilion, Warren, HappyMan, Magpie all gone from Stabbo
The shepwell used to be a working man's club. New owners spent something like half a million on it. Looks completely different to how it used to look.
You missed out The Robin Hood in Shepwell Green just round the corner from The Shepwell.
Yes, a Black Country Ales one at that!
We don't use the word 'missed' - it's daft! I don't 'miss' anything... there are actually still 19 pubs to do within that small area so The Robin Hood is on the list for that visit... it certainly wasn't 'missed'
There are actually 2 more BCA pubs for me still to do in that area (Duke Of Cambridge being the other one) - As was said a number of times in the video, this was only ever going to be part one... and I'll be back to do the others very soon...
@thegreatbritishpubcrawl Such hair splitting! You must be Boris Johnson in disguise.
@@thegreatbritishpubcrawlI know I couldn’t keep up with you mate. Crack on.
After watching a Bedford Blues match, we would usually pop into The Wellington Arms, hidden away in the back streets. Always was one of the best real ale pubs in town.
My 1970's introduction to real ale pub crawls when home on leave. Many of the pubs back then took CAMRA on board as it originated there. We usually ended up at the "Lower Red Lion", an early provider of real ale. Many may recognise the pub and street as it was often used for television dramas like Morse and Foyles War. Well St Albans is close to Elstree Studios. Many of the pubs featured in Morse are around St Albans. The Six Bells may be worth a look? The C4 series "Pub Dig" was there and it's built on the site of a Roman Inn at the Verulamium city walls.
Rich top geezer
The Vine is my local, great great pub, just voted the black country’s best aswell 👍
Loads of good pubs in Wednesfield & Willenhall.. You done a good job going round alot of them 👍👍
Hi again, back on my patch of youth but the "bottom road", never heard it called "the" Abbeydale Road though, not a Sheffield thing. Great to see the choice as in my youth there was Stones (can't remember but at least one of the London Road pubs was theirs), Tetley's (e.g. Robin Hood), Whitbread (e.g. Millhouses) and John Smith's (bleurgh) (e.g. Waggon and Horses that I never went in in those days), with the occaisional Sam Smith's and Mansfield (even more bleugh!). Looking forward to your City Centre one (ones?, there's a *lot* of pubs!) and comparing it to my experiences, off out for one now.
I lived there from the ages of 15-33. From 81-98 . We used to start at the fox and hounds on gold street 😢( gone I believe) the dun cow (gone) along to the queens head ( totally unchanged)! Down the road to what was “the star” now a Pizza Hut or similar. Used to rehearse upstairs in our punk band of the queen Victoria (sadly demolished) late 80s to make way for Morrisons. On too the swan which is now called the olde England. Sometimes the coach and horses. Which looks far better now than it did then! Back round the corner to our local haunt. Which at that time was the horseshoe. We’d gone round and it had a snug which became punks corner. A lot of the casuals found it most amusing. Either way it served food….crisps, nuts but more importantly cheese and onion or ham cobs/rolls. It was our meeting point over the years and even though we went on crawls we always gravitated back there. It looks bloody awful now. It had a bar billiards table then. Never played it since. There was also the leather bottle on Cambridge street as well as the dewdrop and another that’s name escapes me. The rising sun ,the royal the volunteer and cannon. I’m sure I’ve missed off a few but they were the ones we frequented the most. We may then of gone down to the golden lion or up to the hind. Before later on going to the nite club on the corner that believe it or not has only changed it’s name several times. Not a big fan of nightclubs ever. But we had some great times. I see that at least Wellingborough still has quite a few left. But I think as time goes on there will be even fewer. To make way for coffee, vape, phone and charity shops.
Going up there 7 November can’t wait, I’ll definitely be doing some of the pubs you showcased cheers dale
Funny you should mention the service in the Stamford Wetherspoons. It’s like the staff have had a chip on their shoulders for years. It’s just a bit weird. It’s a lovely building inside though.
Great job. Took me back 30 years ago when a lot of pubs were wet led. I drank in most of the places you visited which were trading back then and the memories of the characters that ran them and some of the customers came flooding back to me. Good to see these venues still trading, the pub is such a valuable part of the British culture. Thanks for a great vlog.
a lot of big name bands played at broadfield in 80s still go there regularly, yes yourr right the landlady at robin hood is rather ratty.
Me and my brother are going to visit the Ale house in bilston to help out. We will see if we can have some acoustic jam sessions in there if its still open. BTW im from Tipton.
A 150-year-old pub in Birmingham's Jewellery Quarter will reopen after a fire. Firefighters were called out to the Queens Arms in Newhall Street on October 2 after a fire broke out on the first floor of the Grade II-listed building. The historic boozer had recently undergone a £275,000 refurbishment at the start of the year as part of investment from Heineken-owned Star Pubs. The Queens Arms closed its doors after the fire, which West Midlands Fire Service confirmed had 'started accidentally' and caused no injuries. It's now scheduled to reopen on Friday, October 25 after suffering 'very minor damage'.
Lovely stuff. Moseley next?
Love the videos and I love that you love it around here! it's great! When you come back you should let your followers know and we can all do the Amblecote triangle or the delph run. You get to do the run/triangle, we get the support the pubs and we all become TH-cam famous! win win! :)
