Specialized Rockhopper Restoration Part 3 - Build and Ride

That's the end of my 1997 Specialized Rockhopper build. Those old Nitanium (steel to you and me) frames are awesome. Newer Rockhopper models from a few years later seem to have lost that charm about them. Restoring this bike and documenting it has taught me a lot not only about tinkering but also video editing. I’m also not as fast as you, but I completed my first rear derailleur, clutch , pulley’s, chain restoration and installation. Also front derailleur restoration/ installation hydraulic breaks /pads & disks. I’ve never been thought how to do these just watched helpful TH-cam videos like yours. I still need a bit more knowledge on minor things, but I’m glad a success was the out come of me loving tools and thinkering with stuff! Thanks, look forward to more videos! Irene M-

      I've not ridden it properly yet. I've had too much going on to ride lately but this bike is going to go through a little bit of a change to make it into a commuter bike. Back in the day before quick links, we pretty much connected chains like this.

    I've tried to do the same ghetto way of touching up paint on vintage bikes. The results were, sub par. Until I learn how to strip, repaint and redo decals...I leave a scratched bike alone. It just looks awful..

    • @BackPedalBicycleRestoration
      @BackPedalBicycleRestoration 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      After lacquer, it all sort of blends in. Granted, it's not perfect though. I don't think brushing the paint on is the way to do it. Maybe airbrush and the really narrow masking tape that custom painters use. I have 10+ bikes waiting in varying states to do. 1 happens to be a Stumpjumper which has similar decals to this Rockhopper. The paint is quite tired but it's an M2 so, it's an aluminium frame with no corrosion.
