Should I read?: The Memoirs of Lady Trent

Should I read?: The Memoirs of Lady Trent
I’m on the 4th book of the genghis khan series 10/10 . Emperor series is next ⚡️
Love the Toon shirt!
I still can’t believe there’s a series that combined the Lost Roman Legion and Pokémon and it actually worked!
Rebel's Creed was pretty awesome! A Great follow-up to a Breach of Peace! I haven't read Legends by Gemmell, but you should definitely check out his "Troy" series--first book is "Lord of the Silver Bow"--it's probably my favorite Illiad retelling so far.
The Doobly-doo, are you a fan of Artifexian? Great review! I agree that Tchaikovsky's non-human writing is incredible. I didn't think Children of Ruin (or Children of Memory) was as "readable" as Children of Time, but I still really enjoyed books 2 and 3 in the trilogy. (And your Guns of the Dawn rec is spot-on!) I always feel more intelligent after reading through one of Tchaikovsky's sci-fi works.
The extremely long and contrived trek through the swamp with the disabled First Lord was probably the worst part for me. That and the month-long healing bath for Araris. Other than that, I loved the series.
Good timing. I read Mistborn about 5 years ago, went to 30+ Terry Brooks Shannara books and into Wheel of Time with the intention to take on the Cosmere next. I've just got Sanderson's last two books in Wheel to read, so I can prepare.
Great review!👍👍👍📚🤖🚀
269 and 279 in the first book is just 🤔
This was a great book
Amazing series, amazing author
Can you update this? I believe there’s a few new instalments now. At least 1 or 2?!
And to think this was made on a bet of making a story that mixed the Lost Roman Legions and Pokemon.
I would absolutely agree with this reading order at the time of its release. But the 7th mistborn book changes quite a lot. And I would consider reading mistborn era 2 after words of radiance as well.
Another fantastic video! Thank you!
I just got into Brandon Sanderson and I started with Mistborn myself! Can definitely say it's a wonderful place to start! Doesn't disappoint!
this book was fucking awesome
When will u post ur new video?😅
Thank you. Going to order Mistborn book 1 right now!
1. Hero of ages 2. The secret history 3. Elantris 4. The Alloy of law (series) 6. Warbreaker Arcanum unbinded 7. The way of kings (Storm light archive) Words of radiance
Person it and next it to the double
Really appreciated this video. Several channels give you so many options to start its confusing. Your order and reasoning really makes sense. Never read a BS book. Looking forward to starting, thank you.
And so? A few months have passed. Is this your favourite standalone novel?
Glad to see people talking about Codex Alera. One of my favorite series.
Have you checked out The First Law at all? Such an amazing series!
I started Stormlight after a reread of ASOIAF because I wanted another high fantasy series with a long page count.. the bookstore in my college town high recommended the way of kings. It’s been rewarding exploring the rest of Samderson’s world as I’m working my way through Stormlight. Even if my reading order of these books was unconventional.
I see no reason at all to call the codex alera Wheel of time light. It is it’s own thing and having read both, I prefer jim butchers storytelling over that by Robert Jordan.
I enjoyed your review. I was contemplating reading it. I think you have convinced me.
Will you be doing a spoiler review for this book. I'm curious on how it ends. Honestly I've gotten about 50 percent and I probably will not finish it.
I have just gotten back into reading fantasy in the last year, so I feel so far behind!! I have so much reading to do. One of my favorite SciFi series of all time, however, is the Hyperion Cantos by Dan Simmons. The first book, in particular, is outstanding.
I have just started the Powder Mage trilogy and I was captured from the first chapter of Promise of Blood. Brian McClellan writes good dialogue and builds some interesting characters. So far, it is not as good as the First Law trilogy by Joe Abercrombie, but I am impressed! I am also intrigued by your choice of Daniel Abraham’s Long Price Quartet. I have seen very little about it, but your description will lead me to read the first book soon. Thank you for your recommendations that will make my TBR list much longer! Haha
If this would be a tv show. AMAZING for real they should make this
Yes great series
I started with the way of kings. I am now on rhythm of war. Love it
No Tad Williams or Robin Hobb? My God. Both writers blow the likes of Robert Jordan and Jim Butcher out of the water. Ken Liu also. Nice thumbnail reviews though.
Great video. The worldbuilding sounds a bit like China Mieville - very innovative but at times makes you dizzy and want to say, 'Woah calm down!'. I am very intrigued. Got to try Book 1. Most trilogies I've managed to complete suffer from middle and sometimes end book syndrome! 😢
A good solid review. Short and sweet, but you've convinced me to get them. Thank you. On the strength of this review alone, I've subscribed.
Hello, occasional lurker and first comment here. I recently completed this duology (soon to be trilogy?) Great overview. I really enjoyed the first book and parts of the sequel (sentient 🐙 - what's not to like? 🙂) but it did feel a bit too similar to the first. Do you plan to read the third book when it comes out later in 2022?
I do absolutely plan on reading children of memory when it comes out. I think you are right about the similarity. I hope the next is a little different.
@@AllBookedUp I recently read Elder Race by Tchaikovsky and it was incredible how much he packed into a novella - minimalist but emotionally engaging writing, excellent ideas and characterisation. Highly recommend if you like his writing. Definitely raised my expectations for Children of Memory. Any recommendations for me that are not a 10 book series?😁 (sorry it's just I'm really bad at continuing with/finishing series)
I first heard of The Dresden Files when EW reviewed Proven Guilty and it sounded right up my ally. I went to the library, but all the copies were checked out, so I ended up starting the series with Dead Beat (the previous novel). I loved it. I think it’s good jumping on point for the series and I’ve been hooked ever since. Without a doubt my favorite series of novels. I ripped through the rest of the series after Dead Beat. I went right into Proven Guilty (which was the latest installment at the time) and then finally went into Storm Front and finished the series in chronological order. Now when a new Dresden book comes out, I buy it as soon as I can. I always look forward to a new Dresden story. I actually think that if I started the series with the first book, Stormfront, I don’t think I would’ve loved and connected with the series as much as I have. By the time he got to Dead Beat and Proven Guilty, Butcher had a much better handle on his craft. So when I recommend the series, I usually suggest that they might want to at least think about starting with Dead Beat or one of the other jumping on points, instead of the first book the series. Storm Front is by no means bad, I really like it, It’s probably my least favorite installment, simply because the rest of the series is so good.
WoT and Stormlight Archive are my top 2. I don't include the rest of the Cosmere though. Not read all of them yet and I thought Mistborn was nowhere near as good as SA.
Lightbringer is my favorite series, I thought it was so good
Great review. Definitely giving this a read 👍🏻
Can you still get those editions of First Law? I kinda need them on my shelf.
Not from the source. They were part of the broken binding subscription. 2nd hand would be the only way and I don't think they'll be any.
@@AllBookedUp Ah, as I expected. Well it was worth a try!
Dude you are HYPING me for Codex Alera! I'm going to start it very soon, like in a week or two. Dresden Files is my favorite series so I'm a little nervous, but I'm going in with expectations set to knowing it'll be completely different. 😅
Great video Adrian! Seems like it’s been a pretty good reading year so far for you. Hope you have a good day!
West is my least favorite character in first law and all my friends love him. And I think part of it is that he is the most real world bad, like they are all flawed and bad but what he does to ardi is really not forgivable to me and the way he is written is done in a way that allows most readers to forget how much of an abuser he is cause he does have a lot of cool parts but how he treats his sister always taints him for me.
I think that's so real. When we physically saw his abuse it made me so angry. I think because I liked him so much before that was made explicit. I think that flaw makes him feel so real. I totally get how that would ruin him though.
Those editions of 1st law are everything 🙀 I love them! Sounds like you’ve had a good year so far!!!
I do love those editions. They are so nice.
Love that you are discovering and enjoying Gentleman Bastards for the first time - one of my all-time favorite series. I’m also going through my first path of the beam to the Dark Tower, and leading a readalong on Mike’s Book Reviews discord server. We start the final book The Dark Tower on the 19th of this month, and I can’t wait. Wizard and Glass is my book of the year thus far.
I'd seen your read along, I was just too late to catch up. Definitely enjoying the series a lot so far. Gentleman Bastards has been a real joy so far.
Good review, I love to see more people talking about this series. It was the first Epic Fantasy I ever read and I treasure it to this day.
Congrats on the baby boy !! So glad you are loving Gentleman Bastards, I’m one of the few who thinks book 2 is better than book 1, I bloody loved it and book 3 is also pretty great. Looking forward to reading the Dark Tower, I just know I’m gonna love it. I need to reread Wells, I adored reading War of The Worlds and Time Machine in school, they were both excellent
I love HG Wells! The Island of Dr Moreau, Time Machine, and The Invisible Man were my favorites of his. War of the Worlds is also really great. The First Men in the Moon and The Shape of Things to Come did not resonate with me quite as much. I hope to read more of his work some time. Hope you enjoy your reading this month.
