    Excellent workmanship. After a shakedown cruise, I would not think twice about crossing any ocean on your Prout. Your re-power is brilliant! My only complaint with the Goose is the single engine and leg. It could be a real pain trying to dock against a current and crosswind. My brother had the Roland and Francis build a custom Quasar in 1985, he moved to England during the build and became close friends with the brothers. They were really good people and loads of fun. Later, I bought a Snow Goose, giving up a life of Monohulls, never to look back. Between the brother and me, we have over a dozen Atlantic crossings on Prouts. May fair winds and calm seas be with you.

      Check out episode 16, I talked about the outboard motor a little bit in the video, I believe the title is I just about lost her, I did go with a really heavy duty outboard motor mount, I also reinforced the backside of the fiberglass with another piece of marine plywood plus a lot of fiberglass cloth and epoxy, hope this helps, thank you for watching

    How is the traveler remounted ok the back like that? Wondering if I should make that modification aswell. Feels wrong for it to take up so much of the cockpit.

    • @sailingfreshandsalty5078
      @sailingfreshandsalty5078 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      We like it because it gets it out of the way in the cockpit, it works great for cruising and day sailing, I think if you were doing a lot of racing, wanted to do more fine-tuning, The way it was originally would be better. It sure is nice getting that out-of-the-way in the cockpit, thank you for watching

    You got me hooked. I am planning to do the same outboard conversion, but I have a question. How did you mate the hull extension to the existing hull? Nuts and bolts? 5200? Fiberglass it in? What?

    • @sailingfreshandsalty5078
      @sailingfreshandsalty5078 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, sorry it’s taken so long to respond to your messages, you sent one a few days back also, I attached the hull extension to the area where the old sonic drive came out, in the engine compartment I ran 5 inch long spax Power lags, This pulled the extension right up tight, I sealed around it where the seam is on the outside with 5200, let it dry and painted it all. There also is 4 inch aluminum angle iron at the top of the extension which is bolted to the rear deck of the catamaran. used really large washers on the top. Also on the very back is a three eights inch aluminum plate that is bolted to the main beam going across the rear of the catamaran. I cut in a inspection hatch through the rear deck into this hull extension so I could inspect it . Everything is really holding up great, it’s about six years old now. With the inspection hall you could probably use bolts instead of the fasteners I used to attach it to the back of the catamaran. Or use what I use first pull it up tight and then use bolts. I am responding to this using my phone, hope there’s not any errors. If you have any other questions let me know, thank you for watching the channel

  • @sailingelectricgitana1286

    Hello, I am planning to do something similar and have a question. How did you mate the hull extension to the existing hull? Maybe bolt it? Any fiberglassing involved in the mating? Thank you in advance. I also want the dual outboards for redundancy. How has the hull extension held up over the past few years?

      You will probably have to sleep out on the bed that pulls out from the middle of the boat, makes into a double bed. Sleeping is good but you just have to remember it’s a 30 foot boat. If it was long-term you really have to be on the cruising Lifestyle

    • @sailingfreshandsalty5078
      @sailingfreshandsalty5078 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, they'll old inboard gas engine was bad when I purchased the boat. We had such good luck with the Yamaha High thrust 4 stroke outboards the catamaran we decided to put one on the Pearson. It has been many years now and we love the benefits. Plenty of power. No petroleum smells in the boat anymore, also added lots of storage. We put two kayaks where the motor and fuel tanks used to be. The outboard has an electric steering Ram and the throttle and shift control is mounted next to the companionway in a convenient spot. Thanks for your comment and thanks for watching

It's been about 6 years and it still looks good. The red oak that's on the walls an bulkhead, countertops, 3/8 thick tongue and groove planking. It's used for walls in a house. Hope this helps

    Looks like lovely sailing conditions. Given you sail both a cruising mono and the Prout how would you compare the sailing ability of the Prout and do you use the staysail ?

    • @sailingfreshandsalty5078
      @sailingfreshandsalty5078 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      When we purchase the boat it did not have the staysail, it was missing , this is something that we need to get, it would sure make sailing to Windward a lot more successful. The Prout is really comfortable, does not sail as well into the wind, I think a staysail would help. The Pearson is smaller, more reactive to the wind, it will Sail upwind very well. Both boats are about the same speed Prout is a little faster. I do love sailing both boats, The Best of Both Worlds Thank you for watching the videos Tim and Becky
