POTTERY VLOG 3: Throwing a Vase for my Mom
I am struggling to throw a 7lb clay to make a vase/jar for my Mom. I am used to 5 lbs and under. It was a little bit hard but I was able to make 4 and see if they all survive.

GLAZING WITH SNOW AND OBSIDIAN TO CREATE A MARBLED LOOK
Nice 👍 do you apply them with a fan brush or dip them? Thnx 🎉
I use a fan brush.
Very nice 👍
It's beautiful! Your persistence paid off! ❤Your mom will love it.
I have a potter friend who centers large amounts in increments of around 2 pounds. So, center 2 and put another piece on top and center together, etc., By the way, you are one of the best throwing potters I've seen. I've learned a lot from watching you throw mugs, and I've been a potter for well over a decade. 💜
❤
I love to see you throwing, thank you for sharing! Are you going to share the glazing?
If you are asking about the glaze of the ones on the thumbnail, the purple one is just 4 coats of Mulberry and the other one is 2 coats of obsidian under 3 coats of smokey merlot and 4 coats of seaweed. Thanks for watching.
I love your owrk. I am self taught as well. You give me hope that someday I will get better at throwing. I do handbuilding as well. Your mugs and techniques are amazing. Thanks for sharing. i also appreciate the style of your videos. Thanks, Chris SC USA
Thank you for watching and yeah it takes time to get better at throwing, good luck.
Thank you for sharing your very amazing week! I'm interested in the type of clay you use and where can I find that foot trimming tool , I've been looking for something like that. I really enjoyed watching your glazing videos as well. I have tried some of your different glaze combinations with great success! Again thank you for sharing!!!
Thanks for stopping by, We get our clay from Minnesota Clay and we use the stoneware No.3. For the foot trimming tool, you can look up Old Forge Creations, he has a youtube channel and can see his store from there.
Thank you for the video. How much clay did you use?
13 or 14 oz
You are definitely not a slow thrower. I rarely make more than 15 mugs at a time.
Thanks for sharing maybe i missed it how many pounds of clay for each
I used either 13 or 14 oz,
Thanks for sharing!! Hopefully, I can do this :-)
You've taught yourself well! All those mugs looked very consistent. I love your rack cover from ULINE. I might get one for my rack. Thanks for sharing. ❤
Thanks and i love that dust cover, thinking of getting another one
Beautiful pots. What a team!
Beautiful combos as always. Looking forward to your experiments!
Looks like a little more than a hobby!! 63 mugs in one day😮. Woah
Contemplating on making it my fulltime this year, maybe not, who knows🙂
@ I’m going to see if I can ramp up a little this year too. Will still be working PT so I’ll see how it goes! Good luck on your journey. Wonderful how you and hubs share the process 👍🏻
I'm shocked this survives the firing? That glaze seems way too thick. It does not craze or crack on you???
Nice to see you back, how long do you usually dry your cups? Thank you for sharing! Vickie :)
We usually let it dry for 2 weeks.
Wow there is hope for me I am learning to throw off of you tube I would be happy if I was 1/2 as good as you. Great team work. would love to see all your videos
We learned to throw on youtube as well😀
@@RJMPottery Who was your favorite to learn from on you tube
@@corryg6403 I like a lot of creators, but I watched Gadsby, Jessica, John, Timsee, etc.. when I was starting.
Wow amazing self taught your throwing mugs beautifully ❤
thank you for watching
Happy New Year! Thank you for the video!
It's so good to see you back up on TH-cam. You make the process of throwing a pot look very easy. Happy New year.
I love your mugs. Do you use only a pound of clay for them?
I do 1 pound 4 oz for my mugs, but i do large mugs though.
It’s good to see you again love seeing your work 😊
Welcome back thanks for sharing
thanks for watching
Do you use specific brushes?
I prefer using Mayco brushes.
Beautiful work. I love your glaze combinations.
Mess.. so down
Do you think this would work well grinding a small portion of 5mm porcelain tile down to .5mm?
super interesting and beautiful! thanks! 😊
Your foot looks like ancient copper but the lower part of mug looks like it might be ancient JASPER?
The Cordovan combo is beautiful!
Rouhhly how long do you wait for drying layers?
Honestly I don't even know, as long as they are dry. I usually glaze 10 to 12 mugs so buy the time I am done with the last one, the first should be dry unless if it is the last layers then I might wait a few minutes to completely dry.
So so ridiculously awesome! Wonderful work. Is there a way to let me know what clay type you use? Is this like Bmix?
Thanks. We use Stoneware No. 3 from Minnesota Clay
Glad to see you are back doing videos and doing pottery.
That birch and cordovan combo is just yummy under the pink. Yowza.
So happy to see you again! What a great kiln load!! ❤
I’m so happy you are back! I missed your videos🎉🎉
Missed your videos. Thank you
Nice to see your beautiful pots back and you
Good to see you back. Could the ancient copper mugs have accidentally had ancient jasper put on them? I absolutely love the ones with the pink “fringe” top.
hmm.. you have a good point, I certainly need a test tile before continue using that glaze.
Nice to see you back. Sometimes, we just need to take a break! Thanks for sharing your beautiful glaze combos with us, once again!
Nice to see you're back. I always enjoy your videos.
thank you
Beautiful work!❤
It's so beautirul! On the back side of the bowl, you added ancient copper and honey flux but skipped adding blue rutile and purple crystal. But the finished bowl shows blue rutile and purple crystal. why? I am trying to follow this glaze orders on my bisque bowl. Help!!
sorry about that, I guess I did not show fully how I glazed the back side. I did add the blue rutile and purple crystal on the back in same manner on how i added inside the bowl. The only difference is I added the ancient copper at the bottom to catch the glaze as the honey flux combo is so runny as you can see how far the purple crystal ran inside the bowl.
@@RJMPottery 🙂
Üü
thank you for sharing your talent. It's about the matching fruit bowl, do you apply honey flux inside of the bowl before applying all other glazes? I am a hobby potter and want to try this glaze combo for my bowl.
yes I use honey flux first before layering it with other colors, but if you are talking about the bowl with the ancient copper rim then I did not put honeyflux under it. The rim is plain ancient copper and below it was honeyflux as a base
@@RJMPottery thank you for your response. Your glazed pieces are beautiful!! I am glad that I found your channel and I will keep watching your videos . Thank you again.
Your glaze combinations are amazing!
Looks great, but why did you put your face in the paint?????😮
I saw your videos, I would like to know the mulberry glaze. I dont know if you remember that, but the video is from 2022. I am looking into learning pottery and in the process of learning glazes. Thanks a lot. Amazing pottery you got. Such beautiful mugs. God I wish I can have milkshake in them Ha Ha Ha :)
