The Easiest Whisper AI Setup – No Debugging, No Errors, Just Results
This video explores the world of AI-powered audio transcription. You’ll learn how Whisper outperforms traditional tools like TH-cam’s auto-generated captions, see it in action on platforms like Google Colab and your own machine, and discover a hassle-free setup method that avoids debugging headaches. By the end, you’ll understand why Whisper’s clean, efficient, and nearly flawless transcripts can revolutionize your workflow, making it indispensable-even for those initially skeptical of AI tools.
Google Colab is a free cloud platform that provides access to GPUs and TPUs for running Python code-think of it as borrowing a high-speed car for powerful performance at no cost. Let’s walk through the steps of using Whisper on Google Colab to easily convert speech into text.
First, you need to set up Google Drive and Colab. Log in to your Google account, open Google Drive, and click the “+ New” button. Then select “More,” and install the Google Colaboratory app from the Google Workspace Marketplace. Once installed, create a new Colab notebook, give it a name-like “Whisper”-and configure the runtime to use Python 3 with a T4 GPU.
Next, install Whisper and FFmpeg in your Colab environment. Start by running the following command to install Whisper directly from its GitHub repository:
```
!pip install git+github.com/openai/whisper.git
```
Then install FFmpeg for audio processing:
```
!apt install ffmpeg
```
Now, upload and process your audio files. Use the Colab file upload feature to add your audio files. Once uploaded, run the Whisper transcription command:
```
!whisper your_audio_file.mp3 --model large
```
Replace `your_audio_file.mp3` with your file’s name, and choose a model size-small, medium, or large-based on your needs.
Finally, download the transcription results. Remember to download them promptly to avoid losing data if your Colab session resets. And there you have it-an efficient way to transcribe audio using Whisper and Google Colab.

Thanks so much! I didn't know the options to find the perfect Siri voice? Now I'm happy! 😀
I just got the 2Tb internal SSD, if you can afford a M2 Mac you can afford the internal SSD
I found a better way of just gluing 2 x 2TB fast SSD cards onto a protective plastic cover, then you can easily take off the cover and transfer data to other PC's etc. A word of caution: Sometimes data is erased on the SSD card if the USB connector is interrupted, so careful with transport. I remove the USB connectors for this purpose
Great Video. How would time machine interact with symbolic links pointing to an external drive ?. If I use a symbolic link on say with my "Documents" folder pointing to an external drive would the data be found by time machine ?.
I am new to owning a MacBook Pro and am interested in that video to create symbolic link
a video that goes straight to the point and without unnecessary chatter, Thank you!

Where was the Chinese video made? I want to know if they sell it.
BaseQi with a MicroSD card expansion is PERFECTLY FINE for most people.... or in other words; MOST people aren't doing whatever power user jive you are. It's amazing how TH-camrs are so out of touch. Storing photos, basic microsoft office files, etc, is ENOUGH for this purpose.
Yoooooooo! That a fine idea my guy 😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮 thanks for sharing
I stuck a 18TB HD on my M2 Mini and it was great for months. Then last month the M2 started freezing and spinning the wheel. I reinstalled twice but in the end I've had to leave unplugged the HDD. Can't find anything online about it
What adaptor do I need?
It doesn't matter how you do it, local hardware data hoarding is a bad idea. If at all possible use cloud storage with a company that has high level redundancy and disaster survivabilty. Using continuous "near line" storage will motivate you to more carefully organize your critical data and purge the dross.
Thanks. Over my head but I'm learning.

Good work, the video could use more editing though. There’s a few redundant bits and there’s no need for announcing the chapters or parts or for “stay tuned for what’s next in the video”. Also no need for the old school page flip transitions. You could add some intriguing sounding music in the background of the VO occasionally or when transitioning between chapters (keep it very low volume if you’re going to go for it). Anyways, good luck
Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts! 😊 I agree with many of your points. It makes sense to keep things more modern and streamlined. I’ll definitely keep them in mind for the next video.
How is this "hidden"?
@Leo Everyday Tech , I am using what you have shown thank you .However I have quesiton I’ve got two user profiles both with admin rights both of them save most of their work to their own dedicated external SSD every time they use the same machine they connect SSD and use the machine… my question is around the Time Machine for each of the said users. Can I have two users both with Admin rights and have their own Time Machine saved separately on their own dedicated external dr. Next will there be any double up the data ? Also, if the Mac dies and we have to reformat or repair or replace it and then reinstall everything from the Time Machine will I be to invoke individual data when the individual user is logged in or does this create double up of the data on the Mac.
Yes, you can have two admin users with their own Time Machine backups on separate external drives. In the event of a Mac failure, each user can restore their own data individually without causing conflicts or duplication on the Mac. If the internal SSD is limited, you can have one user running macOS entirely from an external SSD-two separate macOS installations instead of individual user accounts.
@@LeoEverydayTech Thank you so much
Help me understand: Why not skip the external SSD and just use a NAS? Thanks for your insights.
Some users may need to run macOS and Windows virtual machines entirely on an external SSD. In such cases, a NAS cannot fulfill their needs.
What Apple should have done is offer an internal M.2 slot, like you see on so many Windows laptops. Of course, it would hurt their bottom line, so they don't do it.
oh geez
Terrible idea for heat dissipation. You’re essentially taking two things that output heat and sandwiching them together all because of the aesthetic of not seeing something plugged in, which is stupid. At the end of the day, I would care more about the function of your computer and your external drive versus the deception of hiding an external drive.
only buy samsung t7/t7 shield. not only are they less likely to fail but there are better deals available. I was able to get a 4tb for around 220
Time Machine on a NAS is essential. I’ve done it for years and use it to transfer all my data and settings when I buy a new Mac. I keep my large files on an SSD but don’t have it attached unless I’m using them (photo editing). Even so, I need to clean up the Mac every so often to remove the crap system files etc.
great perspective,gg

Please go over " symbolic Link" Thank You
I alreday did this. I have 12 gb mounted on the display (outside of course 😂) including a USB c hub
this does work, but you actually need a constant current power supply to be safe.
Wouldn't a normal phone battery charger do the same job? The ones you would buy to charge your spare battery had a clip for the battery and two terminals. You know for the ones that don't have a spare variable voltage power supply on hand?
Whether a phone battery charger is safe and effective depends on whether its voltage and current stay within the battery's specifications. Exceeding these limits can be dangerous, potentially causing overheating, swelling, or even a fire.

After deleting folders Music, Movies (German = „Filme“), Download,etc and setting up symbolic links - like described in the video - I discovered that MacOSX is creating the folders again. Not sure if this is the case because of language reasons („Movie“ in English / „Film“ in German)? Did anyone else discover this? Is there a way to avoid this?
macOS recreates these folders because the symbolic link doesn't perfectly align with the system's naming conventions, which include case sensitivity and localized names. To prevent macOS from recreating these folders, the symbolic link must occupy the exact expected naming convention as macOS requires.
If you’d like to go in depth on a dedicated video on this, YES, I would love that. Subbed

Mmhhh... I'm jumping to mac from windows,...I will just get the 4 tb, maybe coming from windows I'm use to have the things,...inside my computer, this look like a guy with a dialisis
Dude your original charger supplies 0.7 amps, your variable power supply supplies 5 amps BATTERY GO BOOM
Thank you for pointing this out. The actual current drawn is determined by the battery itself, not forcibly output by the power supply. As long as the power supply’s voltage matches the device’s operating range (3V-24V) and its current capacity is sufficient to meet the device’s requirements (not exceeding 5A), both the power supply and the device will function properly without any issues.
Another good trick I learned is that with a very weak battery that won’t turn a device on, even after being charged for hours can be temporarily fixed by heating up said device
I cannot delete the downloads folder
Method 1: drag the folder while holding down the option key. Method 1: Use the terminal command "rm -r <folder name>"
@@LeoEverydayTech In my case this did not work. I had to use the command "sudo rm -rf <folder name>"

NICE work Leo!! Can u do symbolic links video PLEEASE!!?? 🙏🏻 great idea for Mac photos app memory hog. Liked & Subbed.
