I came to the end of what contemporary Christianity had to offer - my choices were agnosticism or to find something deeper. I felt there must be something out there that was relevant to our work-a-day lives; something that could embrace both mystery and truth; something that could make sense of the experience of the highest forms of art as well as scrubbing the bathroom toilet.
I get glimpses of that way every now and then.
I am an Anglican priest working on the South Texas border, a spiritual director and chaplain, a small business owner, an artist, and someone who has struggled with spiritual doubt for much of my life. I work with people around the country as they explore matters of ultimate concern. I enjoy looking into things, learning about them, and reporting back what I find.
This channel is about all these things and my generally unsuccessful attempt at offering a compelling expression of a Christian life lived along the way of Jesus.
I’d love to have you join me.

Poor thing to do, Return to the True Faith of Christ, stop being a protestant, remember the holy sayings of the earliest church Father's decrees.
Thanks for the video. Blessings to you!
@BradN333 Thank you! I am glad you found it helpful.
I have learned so much from your pod cast. I found your confirmation class series very informative and interesting. The series of why we do some of things that we do explained so many things. This synopsis of the BCP was very useful and enlightening. I find your laidback southern approach and style enjoyable and comforting. LOL. I live in North Texas and my family is from West Texas. I find it rather ironic that you are a transplant from Georgia and I am thinking about relocating to Georgia. I also want to reflect on your quaint border parish church. I think that the Spanish mission style is very appropriate for an Anglican Church. I appreciate that most Anglican churches are moderate in size and the congregation always seems so welcoming. I attended The Church of the Holy Apostles in Fort Worth, Texas and have felt welcome there since day 1. I will keep your ministry in my prayers. God bless you and yours.
@ElementalCrosses thank you so much for your encouraging words. Y'all shoudl come visit the mission sometime. I recently spoke with Bp. Reed and we are looking to get more Diocese of Ft. worth involvement down here. Maybe we will have a real altar by then :)

This particular episode I have found quite interesting. From my perspective this is the best explanation of sin, original sin that I have ever heard. I finally understand it thanks to you. May the Lord continue to bless your ministry.

Hi @vanessasmith1183 I am glad to hear it. Many blessings in your journey.
I am new to Anglican though christened as a baby and went to scripture class at school . I just ordered a book of common prayer and I want to know how to use it . Anglican’s can help each other to understand Anglican
Yes. Absolutely important to walk with others on this journey. I hope that you have a priest and a congregation that can help you to better understand the faith and how to live it out through the help of the prayerbook.
Thank you.
Absolutely. I love teaching people about "the old ways" of following Christ.
Thank you.
Good, helpful video. Thanks. One question: You indicate that the 2019 BCP (or the ACNA?) allows use of any translation of the Psalms for the Daily Office, rather than having to use the New Coverdale Psalter. I have a copy of the 2019 BCP and I don't see that mentioned anywhere. Is that allowance written somewhere?
HI @JohnDanglican in the introduction to the Eucharistic lectionaries it says that the Psalms should be read or sung in a version intended for that purpose. P 716 last line. To my knowledge, nowhere is the New Coverdale required either explicitly or implicitly but only offered.
My wife rebuked me last year for making eye contact while reading in church. I am always well-rehearsed in the text I am to read, and so it was easy to do without ever losing my place. It was a bitter pill to swallow.
I might not go so far as *rebuke* :) but I'm glad to hear your wife is helping to make you a better Reader for God's people.
@@thetrinitymission - She was nice about it. She advised me to ask others whose opinions I trusted, and the main person I asked agreed with her. In our 34 years as Anglicans, we've seen a LOT of unhelpful reading styles. Perhaps the worst was the overly theatrical reader, for whom even the word "the" required her special vocal flourish. (Found my way here to this channel from last night's MDAS Zoom meeting.)
@@PaulErlandsonArtI think I have heard that reader in several churches :)
U pray to Mary or saints Is that something gods ok with Nope but u guys still do it U worship Jesus or his father because Jesus forbid anyone to bow or worship him only worship or bow to his father U guys got that one wrong to When Jesus was on earth who did Jesus pray to when he was on earth ? Himself Why would he pray to himself if he is god Trinity pagan origins again Catholic Church is mainly pagan also know as satanism Sun dial at Vatican What’s that for Obelisk from Egypt used in worshipping Osiris penis right Why would that be at the Vatican Who u guys worshipping God of this world or god the creator The cross not important it’s clearly instructed to not do the crap ur explains u guys actually read the Bible or what What’s gods name Do u know Do guys even inform people what gods name is? Probably not Go to church have no idea what gods name is What did u guys learn not much we never opened the Bible he just told us how to do a bunch of stuff we aren’t supposed to do scripturally.
Who cares what so and so said Stick to the scriptures not man made traditions exactly what the Bible warns about as something fools do in Bible times, why don’t u guys stop making up crap and stick to what Jah instructed duh
who created the bible?
Is habitual prayer a man made tradition? That’s all the sign is. I seem to remember a lot of habitual prayer in the Bible. This is simply another way to remind ourselves of the truths about God and scripture. Blessings.
Who is making stuff up? Blessing yourself with the sign of Christ's Cross is offensive to you? If it is, then we know where you come from. You come from your father satan.
Paganism or satanism good stuff u guys use relics graven images statues idols in worship even though the Bible forbids this yup we know what we are doing, don’t worry we are not lost 😂 The cross not occult origins, oh wait my bad actually it is.
Only 37 views as I watch, for a video as good as this; three and seven: like the cosmic laws. Anyhow! It seems to me that this might be an excellent lesson along the lines of Luke 8:8. Keep up the Good Work.

Father Michael I just found this gem. I really enjoy the reading and the meditation. Iook forward to any additions in the future. Keep up the good work!
Hi James. Thanks for the encouragement.
Kubera mudra?
Ever since I was a child, I found peace in staring at the lit candle. Is that a reason Christ said to not hide our candles? Maybe, to some extent. What a wonderful grace God gave us in lit candles. As a side, your evening compline gives me such peace at night Thank you for your faithfulness.
Thank you Lonesome Star Cattle Company Lahman. It's great to be praying with you in the evenings.
I was wondering what version of Psalms are you using? Would it be ok to use the Psalms from NASB instead of the New Coverdale?
Hi Bruce. I generally use psalms from the Composite Psalter that I have been working on over the past 9 years. It will be published later this year. On the podcast, I sometimes have used the ESV. I am not a big fan of the New Coverdale Psalms but fortunately the Prayer Book itself gives you the freedom to use any version of the psalms that you find helpful.
I have just found this channel. I am a simple man who is now re- engaging with my faith. These straightforward explanations are so helpful to me. Thank you. Regards. Nick.
Hi Nick, that is a great compliment to me. Thank you, and God bless you in your journey.

Thank you for doing these videos. I really enjoy your podcast as well.
Thanks @drcurtlacy. Hearing from folks like you is so encouraging for me.
Fr Jarret it’s difficult for me to say how helpful your ministry has been to my family and I. As one pursuing ordination in a continuing Anglican tradition, your material has marked out what I think is a great balance between praxis/tradition with a real warm hearted evangelical spirit. Thanks for all the work you’ve put in. By God’s grace it is having an impact in ways you probably don’t realize. In particular your receptiveness to those contributions of Eastern theology/practice is very welcomed. I appreciate how historic Anglicanism is broad enough to receive insights outside of her own tradition, while still being rooted in the gospel of grace established in the New Testament and re-emphasized by the Reformers. Blessings,
Where is the liturgy printed?
Officially, it is in the Book of Common Prayer for us.
Thank you so much! This is great! Very timely for me. Will you be posting videos or your talks weekly after the Thursday evening meetings? Thanks,Lynn
Hi Lynn, yes I will be posting all the talks here. Because of my travel schedule, we don't meet every Thursday, so if I miss a week here, that is why. In fact, I am leading a Quiet Prayer retreat this week so will not be posting.
Thank you.
So peaceful
Thank you. From new Zealand
Thank you for what you, especially for the podcast. I’m a former Presbyterian who found a small group of ACNA (mission work) folks last year, and I fell in love with the BCP, especially compline, and I love the liturgy and being able to participate in the prayers during Sunday morning services. Compline soothes my weary soul with more peace than I ever expected. A few months ago, long covid began making it difficult for me to read. Finding your podcast has been a blessing. Listening when I am unable to read, helps a lot. Blessings!

Thank you, Fr Micheal. How beautiful... are the feet (the voice) of those who bring good news.
Thanks Terri. And thank you for being part of the team that makes these things possible.
Is there a schedule of what verses you will be doing?
Hi Anastasia. No there is no schedule currently. I am trying to start with some of the more well known ones so we can build up a catalog more quickly. Next week we will move into adding one verse a week, where on Friday the podcast is like what I've put out for the last few days and then on Mon-Thu it will have the same sort of pace and feel but will be more of a meditative review of verses we have already focussed on.
