A bit of fun at Hanmer Springs
Hello to all of our @vagabondlife2018 subscribers and thank you for tuning in for another adventure with Vagabond life.
If you haven't yet subscribed to our channel but enjoy watching our videos, we ask that you hit the subscribe button once you are signed into your TH-cam profile, as this helps promote our channel and we are aiming for the moon so we need your help to do this.
After having a good rest but failing to catch any fish at Kaikoura we headed off to Hanmer Springs to soak our bones.
The NZMCA camp at Hanmer is about a 7-minute drive out of town, down by the river, and within a 3-minute drive to the dump station.
We walked around the Hanmer Springs town, enjoyed a PJ's pie for lunch, and the next day when the temperature had dropped we spent 2 hours soaking in the hot pools.
With 22 thermal pools ranging in temperature from 28 - 42 degrees, you can find a pool that suits you.
It was a lovely relaxing way to spend the cold morning and we highly recommend Hanmer Springs as a stop-in destination if you want some relaxing time.

      Hi Jonathon I would say there is because while we were there a couple of local lads turned up and got all kitted up and went out around the rocks, unfortunately we then left the beach so we never got to see what they had in their dive bags when they came out. (I was too busy filleting the fish we caught for dinner) Funnily enough we caught that one over by the rocks, so there must be food to eat there 🤔

    Nice electric bikes! How do they perform? Are they comfy on your bum e.g. suspension/seat and do you have to peddle or can you coast at times? 🤩

    • @vagabondlife2018
      @vagabondlife2018 20 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Thanks for the comment Sharri. So you can either pedal without assistance (just like a normal bike) however it is also heavier than a normal bike at 30 kgs so it's hard cycling without power assist. Our bikes have 6 power levels and about 9 gears. They go up to about 35 - 38 km/hr and can travel about 150 kms on one charged battery. We usually ride in a lower gear in power assist one and if into a headwind then power assist 2. They have been great, they have nice wide saddles so are very comfy to sit on (and suspension under the seat) they also fold up so are perfect to take away in the boot of a campervan or SUV/station wagon.

      Thanks Dave yeah I won't disagree with you there, when you think how much money we all spend on our rigs and for some to then have to pay thousands more to fix rot or leaking issues makes you angry and don't get me started with trying to get the companies to pay for the repairs 🤦.

    Most of the time not enough sealant was used

    • @vagabondlife2018
      @vagabondlife2018 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You can see clearly from my video that there were areas where sealant was either needle thin or completely missed. I have spoken to many others who advised their caravans are the same. Such a shame that poor workmanship let the company down.

      The best piece of advice I can give you Karl is to purchase a moisture meter. Ours is not an intrusive one, it does not make holes in the walls to work. It cost us $50 NZD to purchase and was the best $50 we spent. Be proactive by checking regularly and that way you can catch any leaks before they become a write-off for your caravan.

    • @karlmabe1649
      @karlmabe1649 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes I'd don't allow engineer's to ues damp meters that stab the walls, great video. I check my van regularly and outside seems. I did notice you didn't show any damp damage on floor inside van .if you catch it fast enough it can dry out

    • @vagabondlife2018
      @vagabondlife2018 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      We are lucky we had NO moisture/damp damage inside the caravan, but we can see how easily it can happen.

    Hi Darren, Great video, have you had any problem with the underfloor plywood getting very wet in the corners?

    • @vagabondlife2018
      @vagabondlife2018 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi Brandy welcome to the channel. No, our caravan is fiberglass underneath, so don't have that issue. I have seen alot of English caravans with this problem though. I think alot of it is attributed to the same issue though with the moulding along the bottom of caravan. The water gets in there and runs along that moulding to the back corners. I just gave a friend a hand to repair his English van with this very problem.

      Hi Matt you're welcome. Look I will say we love our Bailey and it's true to say there is no such thing as the perfect caravan/campervan as they all have issues, but I strongly suggest purchasing a moisture meter and taking that with you when you go looking at vans, because even brand new vans on the lot can have issues you wouldn't even be aware of until you've purchased it.

    Hi Darren. Great video and you've solved the mystery of how that awning skirt rail comes off. We have a Bailey Discovery 4 which has exactly the same problem. It's only 18 months old but I wouldn't trust the monkeys at the dealership to do this fix properly. I want to do it myself (as with everything). I suspected that what you found was happening to ours and now I know for sure it is! We have wet on the front of the caravan underside floor too and as I don't want to break anything taking the covers off, I was wondering if you knew how the front cowlings comes off? Hope you stay dry now mate and thanks for posting your video. Now I've discovered your other vids travelling around NZ and some exotic locations. Subscribed!

      @vagabondlife2018 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks for the feedback and subscribing. I'm glad the video was able to help. I am not familiar with the discovery, but the rangefinder just has a few screws to take out for the front covers to come off. I know some of the earlier bailey's had no overlap from the front wall, which left the front edge of the floor exposed to moisture. Some people were smearing a sealer on this edge and then also putting a piece of aluminum angle on it for protection. Everdure from bunnings, is great for stopping any rot. Kind regards Darren

    It's definitely not pronounced Fitianga, don't believe the neo-reo utter b s. Relax and revert to all the old school pronunciations which were actually more correct😢

    Good catch of the hexagonal Sun Simulator at 23 seconds. Seems like both your camera lens and windscreen were dirty, spoiling the video somewhat. You'll really never get a good picture from behind a windscreen, even if clean. Coromandel Peninsula has wonderful scenery and tourists should all go there instead of dubious Rotorua

    Thank you for sharing the video. I am currently investigating the source of water leakage in the front area of our Pegasus IV. During my inspection, I noticed that the outside wall lip is touching the floor, just above the A-Frame at the same point as the water ingress above. I believe water may be entering with the same method.
