Best Looking Longsword Exchanges | HEMA
มุมมอง 764K2 ปีที่แล้ว
Some of the best-looking exchanges, in my humble opinion, of longsword HEMA fencing I've seen. Watch to the end, you might not like some clips but will appreciate others, I'm sure. Enjoy the video! I am aware there is so many other goods clips available online, but I don't know them yet. If you have good clips you would want to share, please do! I'll include them in a next video. [The Witcher 3] - Gaunter O'Dimm Theme MIX with whistling and lyrics
มุมมอง 125K7 ปีที่แล้ว
There it is ! After almost 12 hours of editing, the theme of Gaunter O'Dimm from Hearts Of Stone is mixed with the whistles of the end of the DLC and the song of the children, by the roadside. I hope you'll enjoy both the video and the song !! CREDITS Editing and Mixing : Reythom64 Game Rushes : Sir Rodney Game : The Witcher III - Hearts Of Stone Expansion Pack - CDProject Red Have a nice day !
My first time seeing sword fencing. Just looking at this you understand that no movie has been able to accurately recreate what longsword fighting actually looks like. In reality the moves are so much smaller and controlled, there is so much tension and hesitation before entering an exchange and theres so much foot work and movement. In movies and tv every exchange is nothing but huge sweeping swings and 0 foot movement, opponents just walk into each other.
Ref need to wear head protection. Like desperately. Make it bright yellow or something.
Hema would be famous if it was a battle royale with competitors starting with no weapons basically hunger games
nice
3:53 they nearly stabbed the ref 🙈😳
How is fencing an olympic sport but not this?
This real fencing, not the children’s game like the Olympics
7:45 Using his hands to stop the sword is straight out of a movie
Put this on the Olympics, what the hell, this is art.
That would kill the sport
I think movie choreographers should study this
Instead of adding points you should be deducting hp
I hope this is a joke
Impressive
I recently bought a lonsword and im suprised by how quickly i can swing it. The catch is that my shoulders and forearms get tired if i swing full force so i guess k have to train lol
4:26 this is the type of shit Jamie Lannister should have been doing in GoT. Would have gladly waited longer for episodes if this level of choreography was somehow taught in tv shows
Hema is a poor representative to sword fighting. Being hit by a sword doesnt mean a great damage enough to encapacitate enemy is dealt to them. Especially the first match. The blade barely touch the opponent. Its just a sport instead of a real martial arts
You've never been hit with a sparring sword in your life, and it shows. There's a reason they wear protective gear for these. And the first landed cut of the video was definitely a clean hit. Would it cleave the skull in two? No, but that cut with a sharp blade would still do a lot of damage or most likely kill an unarmored opponent.
You seem to not understand that most rules were to first blood, they were rarely to the death and the vein if the are to the death it doesn’t take much especially in those days
The fact that O'dimm could have defeated the Wild-Hunt and stopped the white frost with a clap.
Yo what was that intro song?
I saved Olgeird but I lost Gaunter O' Dimm's wishes. But I guess there are Pros and Cons I got Olgeird's saber which is far greater than any Steel Swords in the game. Did I do it wrong or...should I let Olgeird die?
Whole lotta beautiful exchanges! Thanks for sharing these
As impressive as it was, I bought sword fighting when there's the actual possibility of death looked completely different.
Wow 3:38 was awesome. If you watch really carefully you can see red made the blow to blue's foot because he feigned a much higher blow before redirecting way to the bottom. It's impressive when someone's able to feint in the middle of such a fast exchange. Like it's one thing to consciously feint from an idle position, when you're initiating and not reacting. But to do it like that just milliseconds after parrying, that requires it to be like second nature. You have to be so fluent that you just automatically move like that, without thinking about it. And I guess that means a ton of sparring practice, not just practicing forms. Also it was really cool that he parried behind his back right after that. Moving his sword quite a distance in a really short time.
Shouldn't you win by killing your opponent?
You win by surviving
I'd love to try this so much
Please do! There are now lots of HEMA clubs in multiple countries and cities. They usually are very welcoming, provide all the necessary equipment and allow for a free session for you to get a first feel for the sport. Consider giving it a try!
Just imagine being back in the day, being a highly skilled knight who has trained in swordplay since childhood. All that work, all that dedication... Then one day on the battlefield, some untrained scrub peasant shoots you down with a crossbow. Oh the indignity! So ignoble!
Unless that foot soldier caught him in his sleep or get lucky, the crossbow wouldn't kill an armored knight in a single shot.
Excellent music choice Witcher 3🔥
i can't understand why movies don't just use those kind of exchanges for their choreograpgy
I can now see why half-swording was popular during medieval times. It is very effective in disabling your opponent.
long sword have big opening thread.because of his weight. I think that important on "Smash Power" and mass producable. I can't gess how to decide which player is winner. and I felt more relaxed than nervous from them by there too flexible motion and pose, only him in his motion. It looks like there is a lot of diversity, but in reality there isn't.
ルールがわからないけど技じゃなくて電気で判定してるのかな?
It's a great shame that russian sportsmen can't participate in today's tournaments. In my opinion russians both male and female are the best in the world. I'm a HEMA fencer myself btw.
Nice...
The uninterrupted format is cool, you're maybe less likely to go for silly attacks without covering - hoping for a pause after hitting.
Novichenko is such a wuss
Now I will never look at spoons the same ever again, thanks CD project red
He is literally me
HEMA CLOWNS .....😂😂😂😂😂😂👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎
Yup, that's when I go full Indiana Jones and grab my revolver.
This finally sold me on HEMA. I’m gonna start training somewhere. It’s just so beautiful!
This would be excellent reference for animated sword fights.
great LARP video
It’s not larp, it’s HEMA. It is a martial art that you can learn pretty much everywhere (including online) but only if you’re not an ass
Is it just me or does everyone here wanna fight them all
Honestly I'd watch more Olympics if this was included
Its honestly insane that this sport exists
It’s more a martial art as every technique learned as killed many people in the past
You have to wonder...if some of the top Hema fighters went back in time, would they actually be world-class? They have better training equipment, ability to review camera and slow-motion footage, access to all the world's fighting styles and techniques through the internet, modern workout routines and far-superior nutrition. I feel that 99.9% of REAL swordfights in history didn't look NEARLY as skilled as this. I feel movies and TV have very much given a false impression of the skill of "most" fighters of that age. Most fights probably looked more like the first duel from "The Duelists". Where they MAYBE knew a stance that someone taught them when they were a teenager and were mostly just scared and trying not to die. I bet modern Hema fighters would be seen as terrifying masters of their art if they were on an ancient tournament ground or battlefield.
That's a really interesting point! Although I would say, for the comparaison to be fair, we should compare hema fighters (who are an insanely small part of the population, who trained for multiple years) with similarly trained swordsmen from the time. I'm just guessing here, but I would feel like a swordsman who trained for as many years, with way more direct and close access to manuals, techniques and teaching, would perform just as well. Another point is - wild guess here - let's say that 10% of the population from that time had good enough fencing skills, just some sort of ability using a sword. There's still the fact that nowadays, almost 0% of the population - even locally - can do anything with a sword, even if an extremely, insanely small group of individuals (hema fighters) are very proficient at it.
I think you're right however. Hema fighter would definitely be some of the best swordsmen around. To make a long story short ; I feel like they had initiated swordsmen (even at a basic level) all over the place and some rare experts, and we have almost no one who even touched a sword, but some absolutely expert swordsmen around.
The continuous format is a little more exciting to watch, but I wonder if it would actually mimic a duel. I doubt that taking any sword strike would let you continue instantly. I hate martial arts point fighting and prefer continuous like Muay Thai or wrestling, but I think it might be needed for HEMA.
Scorning in HEMA also varies wildly from tournament to tournament and club to club. In some there are no points, you just have to win the exchange. And the only way to win an exchange is to land an attack that would have actually ended the fight if the weapons were real and there were no protective equipment. What qualifies as a that kind of attack is usually defined as having good edge alignment and hitting with enough force that the ref can hear the impact clearly. Furthermore if you double, hitting each other at the same time or within seconds of each other no one wins the match. This goes until best of 3 usually
Well that's just like your opinion man
Yes it is. Maybe you have some good exchanges in mind that I don't know of? Feel free to share them!
I love the idea of the continual rounds, without stopping after every blow. I would think that certain blows, could perhaps warrant a stop, like a blow to the head, neck, or groin... but everything else should keep going. And points should not only be awarded for strikes, but for avoiding a follow up strike for at least 5 seconds. Afterall, what good is killing your opponent if they kill you too?
Lord Vader was kinda op
I would kill to do HEMA
Still a lot better than modern fencing.
Its an amazing feeling when you have trained HEMA and you have a series of parries and counter attacks that happen so fast, that you dont even really know what happened until after. Its so cool how intelligent and quick your body can be when you train and get out of the way for instincts to take over.
1:31 is so good
damn 4:50 is really cool
