Dorsal Outdoors

เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 20 ก.พ. 2022
We're a crew of lifelong buddies who just couldn't put a good story down. We love crafting films about the outdoor experience. The people. The places. The pursuits.
But there's also adventures and journeys that we're dying to share. Like the time that Ben and George got stranded on an uninhabited island while trying to catch bonefish. Or the time Dan dropped into 400 feeding tuna, and left with only a headache. Or especially the time (every time) where we took what we had, made the best out of it, and adventured as far as we could.
So while we're just a crew of friends from Alabama, we publish tales from Colombia, Alabama, Mexico, Louisiana… anywhere adventure is found.

{From the Dorsal Vault} Fly Fishing Belize -- 3 Locations, 1 Week...1 Major Problem | "Imperfect 10"
Fly fishing in Belize is a saltwater mecca. It's no surprise that it was locked in our sights when were looking for our 10th adventure together.
So in 2018, we set out to document this endeavor. Doing something as crazy as filming it...which created some problems.

From Couch Potato to Duck Hunting Dog | Alabama Duck Hunting | A Born Retriever Part 1
มุมมอง 1.8K2 หลายเดือนก่อน
My dog, Riggins is an all-American family dog. He excels at comforting angry toddlers, being a playground for infants, and taking a superb couch nap. But, Riggins has had a hidden talent all along. He was born to be a bird dog. The problem is... no one in my family hunts. I'm not a duck hunter. I've only fished. So, late in his life, I decided to throw down the fishing rods and give everything ...

At the same time, each bass faces a conservation threat. Fly Fishing Saltwater Colombia-- Travel Turmoil for Tuna
มุมมอง 2.5K5 หลายเดือนก่อน
Heading out on a dream trip should be a thrill right? In this off-beat story, Kai and Ben "enjoy" the chaos of traveling during Covid... in Colombia... on the coast. The goal is Pacific fly fishing for tuna and sail fish fishing... the journey? Through customs, half a dozen airports and a nagging fear that there's no way they'll make it.

Frothing on the surface. Begging to be caught. This is his moment, right? Official Selection of the 2022 Fly Fishing Film Tour. Fly Fishing for Redfish…Big Ones. But Getting A Curse Instead-- The Origins of Dan's Pain

It was an easy idea. Drive down to Louisiana & catch a bunch of redfish on the fly. Then there was a business meeting. Then there was a planning error. and then... there were zombie redfish. Follow Dan and George (and a little bit of Ben) as they try and make the best of a scary fly fishing situation. Why redfish? Fly fishing for redfish holds a unique allure that captivates anglers worldwide. ...

Nice jump, nice fish, Nice vídeo...
Da best of da best dude !!!!! Congratulations on your entire trip, especially your grand slam wading out from a pickup truck. (almost 2 g.s.) 😁 del gringo,
Thanks John!!
Nice
Awesome film fellas! I need to get back down there stat!
Is that an invitation….
Newbs.... But then again, that's part of the process.
I was in a panga heading out to Glovers from Hopkins last year. I've made that run several times, and when it's rough it is really not fun! In the boat with me on this particular trip was a buddy of mine Chris who had never fished salt. Going thru the barrier reef, we took a pretty big wave over the bow, which is maybe the 2nd or 3rd time that's happened to me in my 64 years. I gotta say it made me a bit "concerned". I look back at our guide Ransom, and he has a non expression on his face, so I play it cool also. Chris looks at me and says something to the effect "should we turn back". Nah, I say, it's only going to be like this right at the pass. So we do the wave surfing thing all the way out. It was brutal, but it ends at Glovers, which is paradise! Chris took it mostly in stride, but he did say "that was horrifying!"
🤣 that's the truth! This was back when we didn't have a ton of camera gear (nor the foresight to film everything) so I hate that we didn't have Lloyd's original reaction to the question. It was this hilarious (almost insulted) "That? That was nothin. That's a normal commute to Glovers"
You crazy kids; permit on the dry! Crazy... pretty awesome film, keep it up.
Thanks!🤙

6K subs.... so underrated. Best fishing videos on YT
Haha we’re trying Joe! That algorithm moves slow. Glad you enjoyed this one!
I do not understand how this videos does not have 10+ million views. This is the greatest fishing video on TH-cam. And the production of this video is amazing.
Thanks!! Maybe one day? 🤷♂
Good stuff good editing
Thanks!
So glad to be a very small part of making this slam happen. Beautiful footage from @dorsaloutdoors great work Matt and Mary Beth! 🎉
MB's blue Sams One saved the slam!!
Great video! Inspiring fly fishing and a salute to mother nature.
Thanks, Ben! We really appreciate it.
Are y’all in East Alabama? I’ve been catching a ton of sunfish and red eye bass in this creek in opelika !
Close! We're Birmingham-based, but absolutely love the waters of E Bama
Great video from a fellow Jasperinion
Love it! Riggins is the best.
This deserves way more views my friend. I can tell how much effort you put into this as well as the season for you and riggins. Next season should be a blast!
Thanks! I really appreciate it. Of course it was a blast to film/experience... but also the edit was a bear 😆
Loved this. Its amazing because Riggins has no idea you are doing all this for him. To him, hes accompanying you on this journey. But that dog is having the greatest life I think a dog has ever had. Cant wait for Pt.2
Thanks! That was something I didn't realize until we were 1/2 through the edit. That Riggins, was having a blast regardless of "success"
@@dorsaloutdoorshello nice video i have hunting videos on youtube
🤣 More Riggins! Loved the film and the dog even more. Great shoot 🤜
Thanks for taking the time to film and make a well produced video. Against the odds, I'm taking my wife, our 2.5y/o son and 6mo. little girl. Fly fishing in nameless mountains has always been special to me. This is something I want to share with them. Great video and good reminder - walking in with the expectation that I may not even wet a line is a good start.
Thanks so much! It's all about expectations, and I tripped up on mine for this one!
These videos are SO good. The footage, the fish, the narration. Keep 'em coming!
Thanks man! We’ve got one from Belize coming up I think you’ll love.
Awesome video! What time of year was this? Thanks for your help!
July in Mexico 🤙 (might have been a little warm)
@@dorsaloutdoors Thanks so much! Which Bote board was easier for this kind of fly fishing, the bugslinger or the rackham? Thanks again!
@@pikeonthefly13 It really depended on the day... (which I know is a terrible answer). Sometimes it was nicer to be on a lighter, more nimble rig. Other times, a larger size was super helpful when there was more of a breeze.
Awesome video! Which of the redeyes are your favorite? I'm kinda partial to the Warrior myself, love catching those guys!
Warrior bass make you *earn* it so much respect for you there! It's a tough call for us-- Coosa bass have such a wide range in beautiful areas, Tallapoosas have such a striking coloration... and then Cahabas would *technically* be our home fish. So can we cheat and say... it depends on the day?
@dorsaloutdoors I love them all too, the Warrior is my home fish so I may be a little biased! I can be at a creek that has them in a matter of minutes!
Great video. Thanks. Beautiful rivers. What were those white flowers in the river? We dot have those here up aroundI toledo.
Thanks, Eric! Those are Shoal Lillies (better known as "Cahaba Lillies" around here). Super interesting species that is worth the Google deep dive if you're curious!
Thank you. I used to be addicted to fishing. Now I'm addicted to native plants
Where did you get that dead shirt

Thanks so much man 🤙
So many epic tarpon jumps
And THAT is the stuff of life right??
That was gnarly!!! Bucketlist fish for me is a tarpon on the fly
Dude it's incredibly rad to do! Make it happen!
Nicely said😉
BASS FISHING?! WITH A FLY ROD?! Never heard of such a thing. Y'all crazy.
Is it even called fly fishing at that point??
Awesome video. Great editing as well!
Thanks Reid! It’s been a long time coming. Thrilled to get it out there and rolling
Yewwww BammaJamma!

TH-cam is offering to translate this to English for me 🤣
@@BlueLineCo "Translate to English" might be the most offensive thing hurled at a southerner we've seen in awhile
Beautiful topography!
That fish was on the fucking hunt, eh? What an eat. Amazing footage.
Thanks! Yeah the thing was a menace in the best way
The tarpon jump in slo- mo has to be on of the best jump shots ever ! How close was the camera from that shot ? Y’all could of had a big production film crew and never got a shot like that , 👍🏼😄
Thanks Dave! The camera was definitely in the splash zone (about an hour later it ended up in the water but the footage was miraculously preserved on the cards) And yeah- that’s the wildness of documenting the outdoors- you *never* know when the fish are going to put on a show!
Awsome story man
Thanks Tony! Glad you enjoyed it.
WOW, man that had to be fun, fun, fun.
An absolute blast. Can’t even lie!
Congrats🎉🎉
Thanks!
Great video.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Awesome camera work dudes!
Thanks, Trevor!
so good
I've fished with Nick before and know where you all were! What weight rod were you using for the tarpon fishing?
We really loved throwing 9s in this context. A little more punch than an 8… but more precision than a 10. As technical as that sounds it was more for keeping the poppers out of the mangroves and into the water haha
This was awesome! 👍
Thanks, Mats! We appreciate it.
@@dorsaloutdoors So did I! 😄🎣
Great video!
Thanks!
What an epic trip! Congratulations to you all and the guides for making such an entertaining video. It really captures all that is great about our sport and that very special area of the Yucatán. It sure made me wanna go!👊😎
Thanks, Nick! Really appreciate the kind words. We were definitely blessed to just take part in all of this, let alone capture it!
Good times. Great video!! 🔥🔥👊😎
