    This demonstration is not useful. You should use a real word tear like on a seat or back. It’s easy to repair when you can get to both sides.

    • @autoleatherdye
      @autoleatherdye 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The best option would be to call your local dealer and give the parts department your vin# and ask them for the color name for your interior as that is how we would match it. Otherwise you could send us the ram information including year and model to sales@autoleatherdye.com and we can see if we can locate it for you. Thanks for watching and we look forward to hearing from you!!

      If you’re referring to Dye Transfer as shown in this video, the Kit we use is designed to remove Dye Transfer. In terms of our Automotive Dye, it’s will wear just like the original coating if applied in multiple light coats as directed by the instructions. But just like all leathers, the wear and durability depends on many many factors.

    Maybe its just me, but it looks as if it changes the color to a degree. Near the back of the seat I can see a good bit of contrast. It could be the camera angle or how the light is hitting it. Could be just another worn spot. Still, If I am doing just a patch and not the whole seat, wouldn't it be necessary to have the exact color? I ask because there are some systems out there that you have to mix the dye yourself, using an airbrush gun, and the color is determined by a sample of the existing material using a spectrophotometer. Which is the better system? Obviously this one is a bit more user friendly and great for an enthusiast. But would there be a decrease in quality in regards to color, plasticity, and general texture? I know you will support your business, but I would like an honest and professional reply if you see this.

    • @autoleatherdye
      @autoleatherdye 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks so much for the comment and the questions! In terms of a project being more simple, the closer the color, the better the blend. When you get into aged leathers, there is natural fade that starts to happen. When folks use oil based cleaners/conditioners, like what's easily accessible at our local automotive and big box stores, it will also start to develop a different patina on the leathers surface, therefor creating slight color variations away from the original color. Our "Standard" Automotive Formulas are mixed to match sample that come directly from Manufacturers and their interior availability options for each year and model. Even in that scenario, you can still have color variations. So I would answer yes to having a color as close as possible to achieve a desirable result at completion of the job. In terms of the system, whether mixed on hand or purchasing a pre matched dye, they are the same if they are mixed properly. Leather Dye consists of a Clear Base Product [ours includes the top coat as well, there's my sell for my product :)] and a color pigmentation system that when mixed properly is done so in a percentage Base/Pigment ratio. If you have to little pigment, you don't get the coverage. If you have too little base, the durability and feel with be affected. So its all about having a dye that mixed to the right ratio, with the right pigment colors and having a matching color. For the DIY restoration person, having the full 13 color pigment line, the low gloss base, the high gloss base, scales, empty bottles and a couple other things to have a full workable "Dye Creation" station, its much more cost effective to just order pre matched colors or submit a sample to have a custom color created matched to your sample, including sheen matching as well. If you're making many many dye colors, having the system on hand can save some overall money once the initial cost has been spent to get everything you need. All of this is before having the color knowledge to mix the colors from scratch as well. So to end, its really hand in hand as long as the dye doesn't get affected from a mismatched % ratio. I hope I answered your questions and if you would like to reach out to me, we can certainly pick this up and see if there is something I can do to further help you out. My email is sales@autoleatherdye.com Thanks again!!! Shawn

    What kind of prep would I need to do if the car is brand new (less than 500 miles on it)? I'm looking to change my black seats to a mahogany color, and I'm wondering if their brand new condition is better or worse for adhesion. Like, is there a sealant of some sort that would make this a horrible idea?

    • @autoleatherdye
      @autoleatherdye ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Rachel, Great question and yes a prep would definitely be necessary, even with new leather. A lot of times there is a protective top coat that must be broken down to allow for proper dye adhesion. Please reach out to us by email @ sales@autoleatherydye.com and we can certainly get you with the proper set up along with getting you the color you're looking for.

  • @The_Handyman_Can

    Crikeys! Where does one begin? For someone who’s a part of the business, your work is as sloppy and average as could be. Marking the centre of the patch with a small line and tucking it in with two pairs of tweezers avoids the silly screw, as the mark identifies the centre and correct direction it needs to run. Your example required you to grab the edge of the cloth and lift it to tuck it in. Something people don’t have the option of with a car seat etc. You also straightened the patch up from underneath! 🤭 You don’t need to explain that we can’t access the under side like you can, because we already actually know we’re not repairing a square piece of loose leather, but thanks for reinforcing that to those of us who may have forgotten. Your colour system of ‘car make and model’ is pretty useless where all colours of aged leather will have faded, and let’s face it, most leather that requires a repair is probably old. And what if it’s a leather lounge/ couch, reclining chair etc? No explanation for that problem to match the colour in this video. You slopped your filler all over the place, meaning you removed/ filled any existing texture of the leather around the repair, making all that area smoother than the rest of the leather. You didn’t close the gap up in the split properly. If your product ‘pulls the gap closed’ after you’ve patched it, then it will create tucking lines that will highlight the area of repair even more. It’s like holding a hairdryer near a plastic shopping bag and shrinking that little area. It then looks obvious. Best to completely close the split including glueing the internal edges of the thickness of leather. Thus, the split is almost invisible without requiring ‘filling’. OR, keeping your split clean but closed in the gluing process, then using your filler to glue the inside edges of the split if your filler is stronger than the glue. Either way, the split should be completely closed before the final coatings, meaning it doesn’t require actual filling. If your product actually ‘pulls the repair together as it dries and shrinks’, then why did it require 3 applications to fill the crack you’d left after gluing? 🤷‍♂️. All your product needs to do is blend 5-8mm around the outside of the split and over it. Then colour match with a brush or spray gun. ‘Dabbing’ with a giant sponge is never going to give the option of detailing the blend and feathering the colour🤦‍♂️.
