Machining a pair of magnetic hold down clamps (Perma-grips/Magna-Vices)
In this video I make a set of magnetic hold down clamps.
Otherwise known as Perma-Grips or Magna Vices.
These are used to clamp non-ferrous metals and other non-magnetic workpieces to a magnetic chuck.
It's primeraly mill work but there's also a bunch of surface grinding action.
These magnetic hold down clamps or Perma-Grips, and the Precision ground flat-stones you see in the video are for sale on my website:
Perma Grips:

Precision ground flat-stones:

Machining a Surface grinder wheel hub PART 4
มุมมอง 507ปีที่แล้ว
In the 4th installment of machining a surface grinder wheel hub from scratch I make the Locking nut that holds the grinding wheel in place. It's a pretty simple part, its a ring with a couple of holes and a M50x1,5mm left hand thread. First time I turned a left hand internal thread on the lathe, went alright and the part came out pretty good. Precision ground flat stones (and more) available at...
Machining a surface grinder wheel hub PART 3
มุมมอง 3Kปีที่แล้ว
In the 3rd installment of machining a surface grinder wheel hub from scratch I make the flange that holds the little balancing weights. I do some trepanning, some inside and outside dovetail cutting. This part seems deceptively simple but gave my quite the machining workout. I also added some voice overs to explain some of the stuff I do, let my know if this is something you like or that I shou...
Machining a Surface grinder wheel hub PART 2

I get to do some left hand threading that I haven't done before and I get to turn a precision machine taper! Heat treating and lapping the ratched wheel.

In this video i'm heat treating, lapping and grinding the ratched wheel i made in the previous video. It came out pretty good if i do say so myself! Glad this thing is finally done and i can move forward with getting the grinder back in service. Enjoy!! Tripet MHP500 - remaking a ratchet wheel
มุมมอง 8503 ปีที่แล้ว
In this video i'll be remaking a 100 tooth ratchet wheel of my Tripet MHP500 surface grinder. The wheel is used in the automatic downfeed mechanism. I think someone (mr. bozo perhaps?) had a little accident leaving the autofeed on and breaking the ratchet wheel. This is the first time i talked into a microphone so i'm still a little uneasy about it. Also check out my Instagram page; instagram.c...
Franz Kuhlmann SU1 restoration - Making a new gib

In this video, my first ever TH-cam video, I make a new gib for my Franz Kuhlmann SU/1 single lip cutter grinder. The old one was made from just a plain ol' brass strip?! This is no good of cource so i made a new one! Now, this video is mainly an exercise in editing, I have never touched an editing program in my life and i wanted to see if I could produce a nice video. I know the content is som...

Nice job Dennis, I think your English is very good. I am in the process of building wheel hubs for my Chevalier grinder, in fact I did some trepanning yesterday similar to your project. I built several tools before it worked well. Its the area where the balancing weights are located.

Next time when trepaning, try lowering your toolbit a little at a time each time, making sure you still clear the radius of the cut. See if that doesn't help with the chattering.

Nicely done Dennis. I like the intelligent use of material, especially the hole saw. The Cabinetmaker in me always asks why so many machinists waste so much material. The small shop can use the unused parts! Sometimes even on the same project! Mark

Nice work. Just found your channel. As for the chatter, I agree with with the other comment which is the rubbing of the tool. What I think also doesn't help is the single bolt that holds the tool in the toolholder. This could allow the tool to vibrate. Keep up the nice content. Look forward to your next video. Greetings from Belgium and have a nice Christmas 🎄
