This is quite prescient. Now all the House Republicans do is hold bogus hearings, trying to pin something on Biden, just to appease the worst president we have ever had.

"this is why people hate us" >>>then comes along Newt Gingrich, shutting down the gov't as a flex before getting caught in a corruption scandal he'd accuse the dems of having. Then comes a fake war on WMD that doesn't exist in Iraq and "you're with us or you're against us" and Freedom Fries. Then Ted Cruz. Then comes a presidental candidate saying POWs are losers. Then comes J6. and too many more in between to count.

should be required viewing for the GOP bozos in the HEC etc. " hearings are to investigate if any rules ,ethical or otherwise, were broken .." which means backing it up with facts and proof. "the object is to win ". which infers -by any means necessary, truth be damned-. which do you think MTG,MG,JJ,LB, etc abides by ?

I’m watching in late September 2023 while the Republicans are imploding and concurrently running bullshit committee hearings on impeachment, there are actual grifters in congress, representative Bobert was just caught getting felt up and squeezing her dates Johnson in public, and the hapless Speaker of the House just adjourned without a continuing resolution to keep the government from shutting down October 1. Not even mentioning the four x indicted mad man who by all appearances will be the Republican nominee for president in 2024. Frankly alcoholism as a career ending issue seems pretty far away. Oh for the old days.

Cliff "the cuck" Calley isn't a real Republican. He's a Hollywood liberal's idea of what a good little pet RINO should be- agree with all the donkey's false premises, don't disagree with the conclusions too much, lose with dignity, then help them ruin the country. Aaron Sorkin has a lot to atone for.

The part of this (the Republican play) that never made real sense to me is why make it about Leo's relapse? That is vindictive and slimy and not what the hearings were for. But the fact that Bartlett had an attack right before a high-stress moment on the campaign... that is at least reasonably fair game IMO. The Rep could have easily brought that up without embarrassing Leo & it would've been the bigger political blow.

“This is why good people hate us.” Meanwhile, Democrats have no issue with dragging Michael Flynn, Carter Page and George Papadopolis through the mud and destroying their lives in order to get Trump. Such tactics are only impermissible when Republicans do it, apparently.

There are a lot of people in Washington who are like this. The problem is that they aren't ruthless enough to become party bosses, they aren't narcissistic enough to get on the news very often, and they aren't corrupt enough to get mega donors behind them. As a result, they rarely last more than a couple of terms. It's a shame that honorable conduct just isn't rewarded in congress.

FWIW, I too am a reluctant Republican -- one who will NEVER align with the _anti_ -Republican creeps of the Gingrinch/McConnel/tRumpian flavor. I can never be a Democrat, but *"This is why good people hate us."* is not something that should ever be written about a political party.

Remember when Americans used to believe that something very much like the West Wing was how their government ran? That in some form this is what it was really like? Perhaps THAT is what Donald Trump stole from America that had the most value. That was when that fat, orange, grifter stuck the dagger right into the heart of the United States of America. History will note that THAT loss was the beginning of the end.

I want to still believe that and I do for the most part on an individual basis however as a party I honestly don't know what they stand for except winning.

  • @Mixcoatl

I know a lot of conservatives hate the West Wing, but I actually think the show did a good job overall of not portraying Republicans as just one-dimensional idiots of monsters. Alan Alda's character is a great example of this as well.

I'm a lifelong Conservative.....and I absolutely loved WW. I have voted several times in my life for Democrats when I felt they had more to offer than the "other" choices. It's my opinion that if today's Democratic Party matched the one portrayed on WW they would be hands down unbeatable. Unfortunately both parties have diverged so much they have us at each others throats.....and that is NOT GOOD.

They have us at each others throats by design. The more they keep us butting heads with each other, the less we are watching them. But I'm Italian, and I've studied our history, and I have to tell you that as bad as the Democratic party can be the GOP has gone full fascist to the point that I get scared everythime I hear the "both parties are bad" rhetoric. It worked here in Italy 101 years ago and it's horrifying to me to see it happen again. As bad as the Democrats can be they aren't actively denying anyone's right to exist. Think about it.
