What aspect ratio did you upload this in? Curious how you managed to get ti to appear vertical in subscription feed and in the video feed rather than shorts
16:9 vertical, but it's longer than 60 seconds so doesn't qualify to be a short it seems. thought they had extended it to 90s but apparently not!
Great video. As you started speaking, I thought to myself, he's South African 😄, like myself.
thanks conrad! haha, I've lost some of my accent after many years living abroad but there are still some words and phrases that I say like a proper saffer ;)
Thanks for the video Murray; I’ve ordered this in a bundle with the tripod. It was £50 extra on top of the tripod, so a decent enough saving. I’m a bit new to this, and didn’t want to spend too much. Some of these prices are astronomical, like Gitzo stuff, and I can’t/won’t spend that much
Nice one Andrew! Best of luck with it, it should serve you well. Yes some of the big brands charge a huge premium... always nice to find quality gear at a discount. Thanks for watching :)
great review, I have the sirui M2204 (the older one, which was kitted with this K-30x ball head), its great, but the plate isn't Arca-Swiss, its a proprietary one called a TY plate, a dovetail yes, But NOT an Arca one!
Thanks for watching Andy! Argh that sounds frustrating - bet you can't find an L-bracket for that... would do my head in haha. I didn't realise the sirui K30x was a different dovetail as that's the other good option in this price range, although I'm not a fan of the rubberised grips as I mentioned in this review. Makes it a non-starter imo. Cheers, M.
@@MurrayLivingston they have updated, from research these where a 2004? till 2014 production run, they have new K30's out now, castellated knobs, not rubber anymore, so no slips, and I believe arca compatible QR plate systems, so most of the Caveats of the old head are gone now, but I still love the older M2204 as it had a monopod conversion included with it, and as far as L brackets, I just used the notch in the ball head, or the tripod foot in long lenses, fyi I also mount that head on a manfrotto 058 and put my sinar F2 4x5" monorail on it, and it holds that (base rail with a short macro rail attached, and a 90mm lens); and my Hasselblad H1 with HC300 on it with Hassy's own qr system; easy, so no qualms about heavy loads with this head, just keep an Allen key handy, as the rubber pads on the TY camera plate need a good snug so they don't turn loose, and before going out, set the tension knob right, so no drooping when the load is on.
Wow, what an incredible journey! Those views in the Drakensberg are just breathtaking. The cloud inversions and sunrises must have been amazing to witness. Kudos for pushing through the tough hikes-it definitely paid off. Can't wait to see more of your adventures!
Thanks wendy!
Does it do a full vertical hang? I’m trying to avoid buying an L-bracket.
The clamp will go into two different cut outs for vertical comps no problem, but I would highly recommend an L-bracket either way. I use a small rig one on my R5 and love it. Not only will it be more stable but it's faster to change comps and you don't shift your perspective when going from vertical to horizontal. Just my 2c! Hope that answers your question, thanks for watching :)
@@MurrayLivingston Thank You. I definitely appreciate the feedback!!
Really like these filters, bought a couple sets one small for my fuji and one larger for everything else.... wish they sold them separately would like the ND grad for the larger set but cant get one on its own. also would love colored filters for B&W film, hard to go back to threading filters on and off after using the magnetic ones.
Glad to hear they are working out for you. Yes I agree, the sets they are sold on could be improved! Not too many people making colour filters anymore it seems - best to go with tried and true Hoyas or something to that effect. Cokin make a few cheaper ones but they are big square filters if I recall correctly. Definitely can't compare to a magnetic set up - there's no going back!
Incredible, thanks for taking us on the journey!
My pleasure, thanks for watching John!
Looks like bliss!
it absolutely was!!
Great video and photography. Awesome that you toughed out the conditions to et those unbelievable storm clouds, snow and light. New subscriber from NZ
thanks for following along donna! it was so worth it :)
What a waste of time, first three minutes test the patience, I just waited to see how much time will you waste before coming down to business
Thanks for watching and sorry you didn't connect with the slower pace! I always leave chapter markers for those that wish to skip ahead :)
You can always skip it. Personally, I love the pace.
I went from Vatersay to Berneray in June - by car though! Well done for what you achieved.
thanks colin! absolutely beautiful islands arent they?
Wow. I've been doing some research on Michael recently. I just found this video. Nice job! I would love to have one of his books.
Ah thank you, Shanda! Glad you found the video :) Definitely recommend picking one up if you get the chance!
I'm using a Nikon F4 80-200 2.8. Should I buy the n36 or the n44?
I'd recommend the N44 for that combo as it's fairly heavy.
@@MurrayLivingston thanks for telling me that because I was thinking of purchasing the smaller N36 since it’s rated for I think 44 pounds. What’s the reasoning for purchasing the N44 since my set up doesn’t weigh 44 pounds?
@@surreallife777 the weight ratings are usually a best case scenario. As soon as you point the camera down or lean the weight of the lens off-centre, your camera will exert a lot more force on the ball head. It's not an exact science unfortunately. I use a similar weight kit when I have my 100-500 attached to the R5 and wouldn't want the smaller version personally
@@MurrayLivingston Ok, thanks for getting back to me.
They look so easy to use!
SO easy!
Great to hear these are working for you. I've debated magnetic filters many times now, but, cost always has me gun shy. I also tend to put a CPL on and pretty much only use that as a filter choice... so screw on circular are my go-to still. That said, maybe when K&F brings their v2 around I'll be ready to drop some proper money into a magnetic set.
Once you do end up magnetic I think you'll be happy you made the jump!
Concerning the stacking and vignetting problem. It's very easy to remove the little bit of vignetting in f.ex. lightroom. But I only have one weekends experience with this filter system, so there is that. I could go up a filter size but then I wont be able to use the sun screen. And I often need that.
Thank you for sharing this! Stunning place, feel like you really captured its essence
Glad you enjoyed it!
Good video and enjoyed the information and your experiences. I have just invested in the K&F system and still waiting to get out and put it to the test. I purchased the package which included the CPL+ND8+ND64+Magnetic Ring+Cap. I then purchased the ND1000 separately making a total of about £117 when using coupon. `i think that is a bargain price when compared to the competition.
thanks for watching John, couldn't agree more they are fantastic value! Hope you were able to make use of the sale :) cheers
Just a quick disclaimer! K&F/Kentfaith did not sponsor this video, had no say in the content, and did not see a draft before public release. These are my honest thoughts after 6 months of use! Drop any questions down here and I'll make sure to try and answer :) Cheers, Murray Edit: I just got my hands on the Canon RF14-35 which is a 77mm thread. I'm using 82mm filters and there is no vignetting with one filter, but with two there is just a smidge only right at 14mm. Zooming in to 14.5/15mm it goes away. Pretty much exactly the performance I was expecting as the lens is known to have heaps of distortion so it was kind of to be expected. I will rarely be stacking filters at 14mm so its pretty much a non-issue for me, and it can always be cropped or cloned out in post! My friend uses 82mm filters on a Nikkor 14-30 and has identical performance.
In an interview Salgado states that "photography is my language" and I believe it is understood world wide. A life in story telling that uniquely stands alone ! Thanks for this video.
Thanks for sharing Henry, a great way to put it!
Wonderful scenery.
thanks for watching :)
Well done! Such a great film man, I love the peacefulness here.
Thank you! :)
looks like an awesome trip. glad it all came together. those views at 12:55 made the whole effort worthwhile
cheers Brian! couldn't agree more, when we got up there I just had a huge smile on my face the whole time :)
What lens is that?
Hey rob, i use the canon RF 24-105mm & 100-500mm. cheers
First video of yours I've seen. Absolutely mesmerising man, really like this format of video very kraig adams. But beautiful shots and what a journey, got a sub from me!
thank you Josh, welcome! :D got another long distance hiking/photography film coming out soon.
Wow, stunning pictures, so glad I found your channel, you have a very good eye for capturing beautiful photos, what a beautiful part of the country that is. Great video 👍🏻
Thanks for watching! :)
Fantastic work you have done, just perfect in every way, congratulations 👍🏻
Thank you very much!
It's an absolute crime this doesn't have more views. The Caledonian Forest is one of the most remarkably beautiful habitats on the planet.
Thank you so much for watching! I couldn't agree more, the ancient forest is a special place. :)
Thank you Murray for the very fine and detailed review of the KentFaith K&F Concept Nano X Magnetic Filters. The photos are beautiful and very inspirational. I also admire your fine work in putting together this video review with all the details and information. I am tryig to figure out if I should go with round filters, possibly magnetic or the larger 100mm filters for a Nikon Z 14-24 f2.8 lens for an upcoming trip to the Dolomites in late June. Thanks again for this fine review and all the information. ⭐⭐⭐⭐ 🌟 🥇👍
Thanks for watching Joel! You might want to size up for such a wide angle lens or you may run into vignetting issues. Hope your upcoming trip goes well, the Dolomites are beautiful! :)
As a fellow architect; really nice design 👌🏻 currently working on my own van and also using birch combined with black wood, so your video caught my eye 😜 safe travels!
Thanks so much and best of luck with your own build! Such a good combo so can't go too wrong :)
Thanks for a very helpful revue. I'm seriously thinking of getting some 👍
Thanks for watching, Den! Highly recommend :)
Artcise is another company (same head) my 52 is 5 years old my 54 head is a month old ,, theyre the toughest HD heads going
Yep, seems the design is sold under a few different names and depending on where you are in the world its easier to get one or the other! Glad to hear another positive experience :)
Beautiful
Thank you Anthony
Great video. For multi-day hikes, can you pack your tent and sleeping bag in the Action x70, or do you carry them separately?
Thanks! I've since changed to a different bag (Durston Kakwa 55), but 70L definitely had enough space for my tent and sleeping bag inside - in fact as I got lighter and smaller gear it was probably too big. Obviously depends on what gear you have as some is more bulky than others. I try to put everything on the inside of the bag for multi-day hikes so it can be in dry bags or a bag liner, except for rain gear/tripod so that its easily accessible. Hope that helps :)
Great review! Have you noticed any creep at all since you've been using this ball head? I have 4 pretty hefty Canon RF lenses, including the RF 100-500mm and I'm wondering if creep will "creep in" over timr? Thanks!
Thanks TC! Haven't noticed any creep with the 100-500mm - was just using it two days ago for some "macro" bark shots and it worked great for those fine close up adjustments at 300mm+.
@@MurrayLivingston Thanks for getting back to me! I've been wondering about those "macro" shots they say you can get with the 100-500.
Great job fellas! There was a really authentic feel to this 🙌🏻

What a wonderful collection of images, super stuff Murray.
Glad you like them! Thanks Andy
Hi Murray. Thanks for posting this excellent review of these filters. I have already purchased them myself and was really interested to hear about using them, especially under poor weather conditions. In your conclusion, you mentioned a few things I wanted to comment about. I have the same issue with the UV filters. I have the 77mm set. I am using 62 to 77 mm and 72 to 77mm step-up rings for my lenses. I bought two of the UV filters with the intention of leaving one attached to each lens. However, when I attach a magnetic UV filter to either of these rings, it falls off. I don't think the UV filter is as strong a magnet as the others. I found two solutions. The first is to attach the UV filter after attaching another filter or filters first. It seems to stick much better to another magnetic filter rather than the step-up ring. There other solution is to attach a standard screw-on UV filter to the lens first, then attach the step-up ring. Obviously, you would have to check if you get vignetting with this solution. Regarding identifying the filters in the case, I plan to use a fine-tipped permanent pen to label the dividers to make life easier! Thanks again for this great review. Cheers!
I am not sure if I am getting your problem right, but: The UV-Filter should always be the first one to be screwed on(!) the lens. The UV-Filter is as magnetic as as the provided magnetic ring and can be uses as such, but - only on the "upper" side! As it isn`t magnetic on the "other" side, it can not be attached on any ot the other magnetic filters!
Thanks for watching and the detailed comment John! I passed on my comments to kentfaith about the UV magnets, so it's interesting to hear others have had a similar issue. Hopefully something that's an easy fix for future filters. Fortunately enough for me, I don't need one for my uses 🙏🏻 hope you are enjoying your set 👍🏻
@@MurrayLivingston Thanks Murray. I think I will also report my experience to Kentfaith to see what they say. We used the filters for the first time a few days ago and really like the convenience compared to our square filter set. Cheers!
Incredible conditions, video, and imagery! Greatly enjoyed this.
