I Wish I Knew About This FILM Emulation Photo Software Sooner! // Dehancer Photo
I'm one of those "Only the end result matters in the end" photographers, and I like to think of this: Which one is cheating, removing people in photoshop? or asking them to move before you take the photo? Does removing a distracting element by hand in the field change what the photo was?
Good video.Minor districations removal is ok. Replacing or altering is something I don't do.
I dont either, unless it's for something completely different but at that point is consider more of a manipulation/art peice and no longer a photo. Thanks for watching!
The way I look at it, as a relatively new hobbyist, is the photograph is really just the base of some digital art, the mechanism for starting the process. The art itself is the story telling / emotion that we are trying to get across in the final image. It's only really trickery if we are trying to tell anyone this is a chronicle, the reality of the scene, at the time the photograph was captured - and I'm not sure many people, outside of photo journalists, would be doing that. With technology there is always a case for having to work around some of the limitations, even to get the image to match 'reality'. Dealing with HDR issues, noise and so on, so in those situations editing can still be valid for claiming something as real. Adding and subtracting, massively enhancing or altering the light for dramatic effect, then no, thats into the realm of digital art for me. The next question is then is there anything inherently bad with that? Well no, art is in the eye of the creator so who is anyone else really to comment on that? Of course people may prefer more or less editing, my preference is for mild editing for example, however it's the creator, their message and their vision thats important & not sure it can ever be the case that that is fake.
That is very well put. It is an art piece and it's emotions that you want to convey. I dont think there is any right or wrong but just different takes. Thanks so much for watching!
This is a pretty awesome job you did with this Short! I felt like I was listening and watching a professional commercial. Keep up the good work, Jeff👍😁
Thanks so much! I really appreciate it, that quite the compliment :)
Great, thanks, it certainly is a big learning curve when you start a TH-cam channel
It really and you never stop learning 😀 thanks for watching!
Very nice that you catched the aurora. 👍
Finally lol, I've been wanting to for so long!
@@jeffreysproule 👍
I use the multibar for iso and lock it so it doesn’t change by accident.
That's awesome, I've always had an issue with it
I'm glad you got out there to go hunting for a photo! I think the shot looks great 6:24.
Thanks so much Age!
Man, I wish I joined you....

.......GOOD LIGHTS.............ffs.............
They were pretty spectacular!
Another good video. I'm a ACR user and I'm pretty sure I can apply these tips. The fact that you started with auto was my happy moment as whenever I mentioned using auto to fellow photogs they alway gave me strange looks.
I've always found auto works really well when you want to get a good base. It gives you a great idea of what your photo could be. I see no harm in it 😀 thanks for watching!
I haven't really delved into editing photos yet, but when I do, I'm going to come back to your tutorials😀 You do a great job of explaining the tools and why you'd want to do something.
That's awesome, thanks so much Age, I really appreciate that 😀
Great demonstrations of using masks and gradients! I used to be a master at Photoshop but my skills have really fallen behind the last 10 years. I'm making a point of learning these newer and far better tools and techniques to replace my dinosaur era skills. Some of the stuff you did here would have taken me hours and not ended with as good results. I think yours here are the most helpful of the demonstrations I've seen. Multiple real world examples end to end of the same kinds of photos I take. I even have some water lily photos that I haven't processed yet. I'll have some new ideas to try on them now.
Awesome I'm glad they can help! This is just the way I found I can make my photos look better and make them pop, thanks for watching Chris, happy shooting!
I will be using those! Thanks Jeff, as always your editing tips are showing people exact steps to take with their RAW photos.
Thanks so much for the kind words! Thanks for watching!
just buy nikon it's better
I’m looking at this lens because it $259 on mbp. I have the RF 16mm and I hate it. As long as this is better I think I need it. What do you think?
I have not had much use of any RF lens as of yet, however I love my results from this lens. I also know that Simone D'entremont has talked about how much he likes this lens. Thanks for watching!
@@jeffreysproule say no more. I just ordered it.
👌👍
It's great to get out there and see what's around.
Exactly, sometimes you never know what you might find! Thanks for watching Age!
Beautiful shot😁 Testing the durability of the lens, eh😄
Exactly, gotta make sire it's up to my standard lol 😆
Brilliant mate. Ive been really impressed with K&F 👍
Thank you kindly, I love them 😀
I can understand the story with the leopard, sometimes I feel the sacredness of the moment too ! And the character of Sean Penn is like this semi-mystical weird freelance travel photographer. It absolutely makes sense and fits into the story. Into the story of what is important and what is not. BUT !!! There is a much more interesting thing ! He uses a "G" lens on a Nikon F3. They just made a combination of the props they could get their hands on, but it doesn't make sense. With this combination it is impossible to control the aperture.
I get it aswell, also I didn't know what about the G lense. That's awesome! I thought it looked kind of odd 🤔😅 thanks for watching!
@@jeffreysproule These lenses only communicate electronically with the camera. He would be able to shoot with an AF-D lens, since there is a mechanical transmission of the aperture value, but not "G". Interestingly, Nikons, however, retained backward compatibility, at least with some cameras. On the D850, you can use an AI or Ai-s manual focus lens without contacts at all, and the camera will be able to close the aperture to the desired value and correctly measure the exposure. We have everything different here on Canon. Complete incompatibility with the mechanical past and complete compatibility with the entire EF system. The first EF lenses of 1987 are not fundamentally different in terms of control... even from RF lenses.
That's very interesting, I wonder why they opted not for backwards compatibility. Sounds like you need to make a youtube channel, you seem very knowledgeable on this subject.
@@jeffreysproule This is the basic knowledge of Nikon science 😁. It's on Wikipedia. As for Canons, it is absolutely the right decision to start new mount from scratch and make the camera and lens сommunicate fully electronically. This is a prophetic decision that made life easier for customers and Canon itself, as they did not have to upgrade lenses just for the sake of the motor, as happened with Nikon when they realized that the motor in the lens is the better solution. All other manufacturers gradually came to this from a screwdriver and mechanical diaphragm, and because of this, not only did they have compatibility issues on SLR mounts, but they now have compatibility issues with older lenses on their new mirrorless systems: Sony will require an expensive adapter with a screwdriver to make autofocus work on old "A" mount lenses. And there are limitations - tracking autofocus will not work in video. And Nikon didn't even bother with such an adapter - You won't have autofocus on screwdriver lenses, period. Thank you, I have a TH-cam channel. And it's in a completely different language and about a completely different topic.🙃
You know the people filming it, by definition, know, right? It's done on purpose, for fun.
Yeah, but it's still fun to react to it. No harm in poking fun.
"The Secret Life of Walter Mitty" was so dumb but trying to seem to be smart.
Right?! I love the movie but that part was annoying 😅
Enjoyed this mate, well done 👍
Thanks so much for watching, I appreciate it 🙏
Fun vid. More like this, please!
Awesome, thanks so much! I'm going to get thinking about more ideas 💡
A Million Ways to Die in the West is the best for showing a camera in use back then🤣🤣 You need to take pictures more dramatically😁
Lmfao, maybe one day I'll use that camera and accidentally set myself on fire 🔥 😅 Thanks for watching Age!
@@jeffreysproule that will get lots of views!
Next you'll be saying the shark in jaws wasn't real... I mean these are movies, who cares?!😅
It's a fun video bud chill 😎
@@royfr8136 Are you trying to say they didn't use real sharks in Jaws???
Something different, enjoyed it. If a film camera was smashed the exposed film would be ruined unless it had been rewound into the canister.
Thanks so much for watching! I also should have been clearer for that because, yes, it will be ruined if it wasn't wound back. 😅
The 90's style of slr usually shoot and rewind into the canister. Handy if you accidentally open the back.
BIG THUMBS UP for this video...THANKS!
Thanks so much I really appreciate it! Also thanks for watching!
Over-editing is a very subjective topic. If you prefer a natural look, that’s perfectly fine. But as you mentioned, it’s important to focus on getting things right in-camera first. Shooting a photo midday with very similar tones throughout the foreground, midground, and background, and then editing it to look natural, can often result in an image that feels flat. Practice shots for preparation are fine, but presenting them as "This is how you do it" feels off to me. Editing is something to be experimented with. It’s one of the few things left these days that can really set you apart (aside from composition, of course). Finding your own editing style is key, and if you don’t experiment, you’ll never discover what really works for you.
Exactly, I agree. In my other videos I have touched on finding your own style and how my style has shifted to a more natural look. I still play with colours and contrast but I dont push it as much as I used to. Thanks for watching and thanks for your input!
Thanks for the tips
Thanks for watching!
Great video Jeff! I think I'm going to stop using the AI Denoise in Lightroom, you are getting the same results I am, and its just like too smooth and no edges, take away the grain, yea, but make the photo look much less sharp in the end.
I've found it works best at 30% but thats just personal preference for me! Thanks so much for watching!
Once again, another amazing video I’m like at 84sub I still have a full time job and I do photography on the side but like you said I still feel like I only know the minimum being a self taught photographer is not easy but I’m just having fun with this channel and I enjoy sharing my work
That's all It comes down to, in my opinion. Creating for fun is what it's about, and hopefully bigger better things will come from that!
this is exactly what I’m talking about a video that is straight to the point. This was excellent great job. I want to see more. You have a new subscriber! my friend
Thanks so much, glad to have you!
Love it :)
Thanks so much!
I watched one of your more recent videos and within 20 seconds I knew I should subscribe to you. You’re a small channel, but I found that I can relate to you more than some of the larger channels that are more interested in reviewing a product paid for by sponsors, I don’t get that vibe from you whatsoever.
Thanks so much I appreciate that! I would only ever recommend products that I actually use, if I don't like the product then ill be letting you know. Just see my DJI pocket review and you'll know, I got alot of hate from that video 😆
Definitely what I was looking for. Thank you
That's awesome, I'm glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching!

This is an awesome video! Great overview and you really got a lot in that 5 minutes and 55 seconds😁😁
👏👏
Thanks! I really tried to cram it in there! 🤣
Nice overview!
Thanks so much, it's brief but it works!
Great video mate 👍👍
Thanks so much for watching!
I used to borrow a canon 40D from my brother-in-law. Well really we'd sell it back and forth between each other. And eventually I stopped. I got married and my finances got tied up. As years go by I missed it so much. And though my finances are still wrapped up, I finally bought another DSLR. The canon 40d younger brother: the 7D. I'm very happy with it but only have the kit 18-55 efs. And an ef 50mm. I just ordered this lens. Specifically because I love landscape photography. I'm excited as it is my first big purchase after the camera FOR the camera. 👍
That's awesome! I'm sure you'll be getting some fantastic shots with it! I understand the finances getting tied up aswell, if it weren't for that, I'd have alot of cameras and lenses 😆
Make sure you can quickly grab the bear spray off your pack while you're wearing it. That looked like a happy dragonfly😀 Those are great filters!
I'm thinking I'll get quick release clip for the bear spray, just in case! Thanks for watching Age!
Good call on the bear spray! These filters work VERY well, I love the blur and brightness on the background!
Thanks, I think they're great for when you have less than ideal conditions bit you still want to get out and shoot a bit
@@jeffreysproule well, wish we had them a few weeks ago! Macro outing?
Very nice photos dude! Was cleaning out my dads old camera bag and he had one of these. Just ordered the ef to rf adapter and im really looking forward to trying it out!
Nice, I have the ef-rf with the control ring but honestly I don't find myself using it as much, which one did you order? I love the 17-40 it doesn't deserve the hate! Thanks for watching!
@@jeffreysproule no control ring. I never use the control ring on any of my lenses that have that option so I went with the standard one and saved a bit of cash
I wish I would have done the same!
@@jeffreysproule yeah I don't really see myself missing that feature. But back to your point about the 17-40 hate I totally agree. I saw so many mixed reviews but when I look on Flickr I've seen some beautiful images and the colors always look so nice
@TheWutang1995 we've come so far with editing apps that we can correct alot of shortcomings with lenses aswell, the argument is that this lens isn't sharp, but I haven't noticed!
I think you caught a good composition of the falls. I like it! Especially with the tree branches reaching into the frame. Gas station was cool. All nice shots. I'm going to get those filters eventually but some unexpected renovations at home will keep me waiting for a while 😢
Thanks, I don't know I wasn't feeling it, I think I was roo engulfed in wanting to get a different angle 😅 and yea, we're doing renovations here aswell, so I understand! Renovations never end, lmfao. Thanks for watching Chris!
