Wow. I have a '38 Dodge with insane lug nuts. I was going to use my breaker bar and torch tomorrow morning. I was worried about breaking the lug nuts. Tonight I thought just perhaps someone had a better idea. MAN am I glad I found your video. Thank you very much.

I’ve had a broken screw/stud that goes to my thermostat housing for about two weeks now. I’ve tried heat, pb blaster, vise grips, and even Dremel. This thing is stuck good. It’s sticking out of the mating surface for the thermostat. The screw is chipped short so I have enough room for one more attempt before having to drill. Im stressed from it ngl

Genius! Pure genius! I'm open-mouthed with admiration. Thank you. One suggestion is to use a candle for the flame instead of the lighter. The metal bit around the top of the lighter can get quite hot.

I remembered this from 5 years ago, never forgot the concept, but not the way he has shown this. Found this link again in my Jeep file researching the torque numbers to replace my front breaks. I know I will run into this as I remove the old routers etc and hubs, possible the lugs. Reading the remarks, I may be looking to do this with earnest, but now have a new tool in my tool box. A+

Old time pipefitters have been using a torch and beeswax for decades. Melt the beeswax in a small paper cup of paper straws for storage.

I am praying this works. I am at a friend's home, I have a flat tire. I don't have money for a tire. I called roadside assistance through my insurance. They arrived, they can’t Loosen the lugnuts on one tire. I can call my roadside assistance for a tow as long as it's in a 15 mile radius. So my friend and I are checking out the places within a 15 mile radius. The 1st inquiry tells me, tow the car there. If they can't Loosen the lugnuts I will have to have the car towed someplace else. Well, in that case, if they can't get the lugnuts loosened I will be responsible to pay for another towing and this time around my roadside assistance won't pay. I simply don't have the money to pay for a towing. So, my friend and I go to another tire shop to gain information. OMG, what a terrifying scenario they gave me. Mind you I have about $100 in the bank for the month. I can't afford anything and survive the rest of the month. So this next place tells me. They charge $120 per hour. It could take them 30 minutes to remove the lugnuts or it could take 4 to 5 hours just to remove the lugnuts. According to the last tire shop. $120 per hour. 4 hours work on just removing lugnuts would cost $480 plus tax. Then they said it would cost for the tire removal, the fixing of the tire and possibly a new tire. This was all without looking at the tire. The sales manager expressed how much it cost for maintaining their building and business; electricity, taxes etc. & how they are not the cheapest but not the most expensive place around. I will point out, my friend is a man. When we initially approached the manager to inquire he made the assumption my male friend what there to do business, when he was informed I the female was the one doing business and it was my vehicle I truly got the impression he felt he could take advantage of me. I am thinking a tire removal, even with stuck lugnuts and a potential tire would cost me close to or way over $800 if I did business with this tire shop. So the answer is that I don't have that kind of money. While speaking with this manager at the 2nd tire shop he was leaning toward spending at least 6 hours on my tire. Doing the math in my head as this manager is tossing the cost a me is getting very pricey. I am praying this candle and lighter thing works. Thank you for this video.

Just coming back here after a few years to note that this video made the rounds of the brass instrument repair industry and revolutionized how many of us pull stuck slides. Penetrating oil is okay, but the candle trick is far superior. And when you are dealing with soft solder joints and thin brass, less effort is more.

I tried this method on my 1959 Ford F-350 and it was a bust. I used a grill lighter with a candle and it just wouldn't do it. No telling how long it's been since them 62-year-old lug nuts have been removed. I think under a normal situation it would have worked.

Unbelievable how many people are stupid enough to fall for this fake hack There is no thinking involved at all Just because you see a guy removing a nut with wax it must be true Did anyone hear about penetrating oil ? Are you trying to tell me that companies have spent millions of dollars to come up with the best penetrating oil when they could have just used wax instead ? Also I am sure the heating of the nut had nothing to do with it so it must have been the wax that did it

It didn’t work for me at first. I had to put additional wax behind the tractor tire rim. The lighter wasn’t enough heat. I used a torch. Then it came loose. Thank you.

So what does work for you? Have you checked out the Project Farm videos? Apparently Gibbs, and maybe just blowtorch heat work the best.

It absolutely works! I have a 4 wheel salt water boat trailer. Last year a had to destroy the lugs and 2 wheels trying to get the old nuts off. I was about to do the same to the other 2 wheels when I thought I checkout TH-cam. And low and behold I saw the candle trick. Do they just fall off - no, you still have to work at them. But they do move. Some of the nuts were that rusty and corroded, that I could actually hammer a socket a size smaller on. You saved me a bunch of money this time - thanks!

Is this working to unbuilt a submarine ? I'm questionning myself (sometime) very hard since a saw this "amazing tip to save not so rusty bolts". Of coarse with a candle you see more in the dark. But it smell shit on the ass (my nephew proposed this answer) and living in California with those "blond girl take weight sine 1960" we woried about fire. Anything else ? A tool ? A Jackhammer, laser beam, ionic disruptor ? My bolts are waiting !
