Being an Artist is about taking a Journey.
Learn how to love painting and drawing with my weekly uploads, where I share the techniques and tools that have helped me become a better artist. My approach to painting is grounded in what I have learned teaching art to adults over the last 10 years.
My aim is not simply to share art theory but also to create an online context for structured learning with weekly projects, tutorials and feedback session. The Journey of painting is not always easy, but finding a context where you can join in and share the ups and downs with others helps a lot.
If you are interesting in participating as an Online Student you can find more details on website at www.edcooper.art

Painting Feedback and suggestions.

Painting Feedback Session I was really happy to get an email today from South Africa with this nice little study - credit to Lizette Marais. I though it would be nice to film a quick feedback session as if Lizette was at one of my classes. #artclasses #paintingcritique #learntopaint #composition #oilpainting
Ed Cooper - As Seen On TV - Channel 5's Norfolk and Suffolk
มุมมอง 28110 หลายเดือนก่อน
In Summer of 2023 - I was invited by Bright Spark Productions to take part in filming for their Channel Five series Norfolk & Suffolk. It was both hard work and great fun working with the team over a day of filing at Pin Mill just outside of Ipswich. I got to talk about growing up in Ipswich and how I started to venture out on my bike to paint the surrounding countryside. It was quite an overca...
How to Mix Vibrant Skin Tones Using the Zorn Palette

Anders Zorn - is said to have used this limited pallet to great effect. The colour I use to replicate it are Titanium White, Cadmium Red, Yellow Ocher and Ivory Black. Adding Text to your drawings: Sketch book Journaling
มุมมอง 1.3K3 ปีที่แล้ว
In this weeks lesson I am talking about how to add text to your drawings, and start to think of your sketch book like a journal, a place to write, reflect and imagine. I reference the excellent book The Creative Licence by Danny Gregory - which has lots of tips for this approach to sketchbook work. How to Draw using a Grid: Watersoluble graphite Demo
มุมมอง 9163 ปีที่แล้ว
This weeks project is drawing using a grid: Inspired by photo realism I decided to pick a nice complex view of a street scene. Using a distortion grid - it turned out to be a really tricky exercise. When starting out using grids I would suggest start simple with a straightforward copy and then work up to distorted grids. There is so much potential to using grids creatively - this is just the ti...

Hi Ed. I've been enjoying watching this plein air and noticed that you said you were going to do more of these - this was 2 years ago and nothing since? We really enjoy these paintings Ed 😊
We need to see more like this please Ed.
THANK YOU ! Grateful for what you have done !
My pleasure!
I love this! I didn't stick with the morning pages very long 😅but drawing seems more fun! And I did all of nicolaides 10 years ago, but now I need a new incentive, a new something to spark my engine again 😊
Sounds great. Starting is often the hard part!
Amazing
Thank you! Cheers!
Thank you so much for this tutorial!!
Glad it was helpful!
Happy painting❤
Oh, I love the idea of thinking of drawing each day being like Julia Cameron's 'Morning Pages'. Thank you!!!
Thanks! - yes its a great habit to get into to!
The depth just keeps getting deeper and deeper towards the end. Thank you for sharing your skills and talent.
Thanks - must do some more!
I was trying to remember if the skyholes are supposed to be darker then the sky or lighter.
Yes, think of looking through a chain link fence. And also the smaller the hole…the less you will see with squinted eyes.
@@edcooper1422 I looked it up in my Landscape painting book that you recommended by Albala. He wrote: "The sky holes should be slightly darker than the surrounding sky or background. If they are to light, they will pop forward instead of looking like a hole."
magnifique super demonstrationj adore
It was a wonderful surprise to receive an email from you. Thank so much for this feedback. I love your videos and the way you explain everything. I really would like to attend your online classes.
Hi Liz, I Hope you find it useful. I would like to do some more online classes at some point. Keep painting and Im happy to help if I can!
Hi Ed, its seems that you suggest that I push back the bright colours, but what if I prefer the bright colours? That's not wrong either?
@lizettemarais6892 hi Liz, of course...'it's your world' as bob ross would have said. However there Is a Quote I like....'a thimble full of red is brighter than a bucketfull' - the idea is bright colors play better against muted desaturated colors! At the same time..I have a preference for more muted colours...and you have find what you like!
Thanks for the simplification
Thank you. Understand the tree.
Wow Ed, you’re a fantastic teacher! Can’t believe how much I learned from you. Thank you
YOU MADE A GOOD VIDEO, BUT PERHAPS ZOOMING IN ON YOUR PALETTE (SO WE COULD HAVE SEEN THE COLORS BETTER) WOULD HAVE MADE YOUR VIDEO EVEN BETTER - BUT YOUR MIXING AND EXPLAINING WERE RIGHT ON - *GOOD VIDEO!!!*
Thanks for the tip
@@edcooper1422 YOU ARE VERY WELCOME, KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!!!!!!!
Where are the exercises?
Oh my days, where have you been all my life!!!! In 24 minutes you've taught me SO easily how to draw a simple person! I can't tell you how happy you've made me! 😊 I cannot wait to check out your other vids! 🎉❤🥳😃🤪😜😁 Your a flippin star 🌟 thank you! 🙌🏻
