Building out an unfinished cabinet space in our tiny kitchen, mistakes and all. At one time in my life I was a pretty good woodworker. Failing eyesight, shaky hands, and a general case of impending antiquity has taken its toll. But I am not quite ready to hang up the tape measure yet. Can a $45 Chinese Chain Saw Even Work and will it kill Tallow trees? The Answer Might Surprise You!

I have been systematically ridding our property of Chinese tallow trees for 3 years now. I am making progress but have waffled between using a gas chain saw or a hand saw from day one. Both have their advantages, and both have their draw backs. A friend suggested I should give one of those little 6" chain saws a try. Excellent workmanship and attention to detail!! I am impressed! I just wonder though, why did you not at least throw a coat of primer on it? Also, those little pins are called lynch pins, they are used on every tractor. Like others have mentioned, longer springs with more tensile strength would've been more appropriate for the weight of that drive on ramp gate. I would suggest searching for "gorilla lift springs" on youtube. There is a ready to bolt on brand of spring assist that we can buy in the US named Gorilla lift. There are lots of videos of people building their own though, here on youtube, as they are easy to copy. Anyway, great job, and on to the next project!! Yeah, I know this was two years ago, but I'm sure you have something else in the works now!! Good luck!

    My only thought was it would benefit from radiusing the corners of the seats and tabletop. Always seem to be banging into 90 degree corners. Just a gentle one similar to that of an ice cream container or such. Had a friend several years ago that made several of them from 1 1/2 cedar. Held up reasonably well. A boat canvas cover for it (Sunbrella, Stamoid, or Cordura, etc are all good) sewn up on your machine would extend its life considerably. Setting it on round pavers would also help. Wet ground will eat that treated stuff in about 5-10 years with the water table as high as yours. As muddy as that area is maybe bring in a load of crushed rock for a picnic area to keep feet out of the mud? I can't help how remembering how bad is was for a lot of the year when you were working on the land.

    Your soil has a terrible perc rate. Your effluent will end up up filling up the trench (just like the rain did) and not go anywhere. You just defeated your purpose of “treating “ your sewage. No perc means no additional volume to add after the trench after it fills up. Then the whole system backs up.

    • @barrylukebuilds7894
      @barrylukebuilds7894 10 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Easy there buddy! I agree that the soil has poor permeability. But it does have some. The water I showed in the ditch was what was left after a two week period of off and on rains. Even then the water was receding, slowly, but receding. So saying “no perc” is not accurate. Additionally, the size of the field in relation to the volume of liquid is will see is quite large. Remember it is not a house, it is a cabin where we stay at most 2 nights a week, a cabin with no washing machine, a cabin where the shower water drains onto the ground, and a cabin where very little cooking is done. Just a cabin. The whole picture needs to be considered. Thanks Barry

    I'm not sure why you would put a baffle at the inlet hole, don't you want the waste solids to flow freely into the tank? It seems that the baffle should only be on the outlet of the tank to me!!!! 🤔🧐

    • @barrylukebuilds7894
      @barrylukebuilds7894 18 วันที่ผ่านมา

      The baffle on the influent side of the tank is there to prevent the incoming flows from disrupting the scum blanket that will form on the surface of the tank. The scum will be composed mostly of grease and although we don’t do a lot of cooking I do like my eggs and sausage in the morning. The scum will break down with time but at a slower rate than the sludge. So if the scum blanket is constantly disturbed it will eventually end up in the leach field, not ideal. The baffles should not impede the flow of solids. If they do I will have a mess to deal with! Thanks for watching and thanks for taking the time to comment. Barry

    Do those seven inch chains have a masterlink? If so you can shorten them.

    • @barrylukebuilds7894
      @barrylukebuilds7894 28 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Unfortunately chainsaw chains are like 10speed bike chains. The master link is just like the other links and when installing the pins are mushroomed over with a special little tool. I guess I could look for those links. Both my sons have been into bikes in a big way so at least one of them should have the tool. Good idea!

      I am sorry about your bitter winters! I guess everything gets buried deeper up there. I know that is true for water lines. Thanks for watching and thanks for taking the time to comment. Barry

      Wood or foam, both just a support for the fiberglass. Both are fine. Wood is a LOT cheaper. Good luck with your project and thanks for taking the time to comment! Barry

      Terrible percolation we agree on. But why are you so angry? This is my cabin on my property and I am very familiar with the BOD loading and the average quantity of supernate expected.

    #1 (#2?) -- You DO NOT use a 1" "sewer" pipe.(ESPECIALLY when you are Full of Shit) Based on what you did originally, WHY would anyone even think or bother listening to anything else you did??

    Why not go for a composting toilet? Using sawdust, or even soil, instead of flushing water. All farm animals' manure is very sought after for composting in a very valuable fertilizer, but not humans'?

    • @barrylukebuilds7894
      @barrylukebuilds7894 หลายเดือนก่อน

      So so so many options! I have read good things about composting toilets. But there is some training involved and some maintenance. We have guests visit regularly. Everyone knows how to flush a toilet. With our septic system I am counting on ZERO maintenance for at least 5 years. By the way, when we were in the bucket stage of our waste management I used sawdust from my shop to minimize odors and it worked pretty well. Thank you for watching and for taking the time to comment, Barry

    I would have put a 4” pipe coming out the top with a screw in cap top,also for future clean-out using a pumping truck. I did the same thing with a 500 gallon septic tank that I installed in the early 90’s before doing your own became illegal within certain limits. It lasted about 20 something years before having to call a pump truck to come out for pumping it out and refilling with water again. You did a fantastic job! I really enjoyed watching your work!

      @barrylukebuilds7894 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks Ranger! A 4” riser definitely would have made future pump outs easier. I (or my boys) will have to do a little shovel work. The tops are less than a foot down so I won’t be too bad. Thanks for the kind words and I am glad you enjoyed! Barry

    Would it settle less if you watered it in when you backfill or is that not a good idea? (If you have access to the water to do so)

    • @barrylukebuilds7894
      @barrylukebuilds7894 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Absolutely! My method of compaction was that I didn’t have a method. I wasn’t going to build on top so I just threw some dirt on top and let it be. That would never never fly on a Corp job. Maybe that’s why I did it like that, hoping one of the many inspections I had might get a little twitch is his back 😏

    Speaking as a retired Certified Arborist and Line clearance tree trimmer. Placing your system in our work zone may Bite you in the rear. Don't run it ware tree crews may access to clear the Power lines.

      Gary Thanks for the tip with is probably good advice. In my specific case the line a am under is the service that dead ends at our cabin. The right of way has already been cleared and the power CoOp will trim once every five years. Now that the leach field has been installed and backfilled I see no future conflict. But in other folks situations it may be different. Thanks for watching and thanks for taking the time to comment. Barry

    We did this at a cabin in the woods of northern Minnesota. However, instead of three 55 gallon drums, we used two 5 gallon buckets. lol. That system worked great connected to one shower and one toilet. BUT, that one toilet would serve 6-8 guys every weekend during the spring, summer, and fall months for at least 5 or 6 years. The owner of the cabin was always amazed when one of the guys would show up with one of those jumbo packs of toilet paper like you get from Sam's Club or Costco.... He always wondered where all that paper eventually went. The system worked great for many years until he finally built a new house on the property and installed a proper septic system.
