SCCA Runoffs Race
Rich's unimpressive race at the Runoffs. This is likely our one and only appearance at the Runoffs since our class has not been invited back to the 2025 Runoffs in the SCCA's attempt to increase the prestige of the event and shorten the length of time drivers need to be at the track

Rich's 1st session at Road America didn't go so well. Cold track, cold tires, 0 experience at this track and Rich is watching the driver ahead of him and not looking up the track far enough.

2024 Solo Nationals

Rich makes his 1st trip to the SCCA Solo Nationals. His goals are humble, don't embarrass himself and don't finish last. Well if i batted .500 in the Major Leagues I'd be a hall of fmaer.

I have updated the Phantom with a 56 tooth gear in the back to be able to Autocross the car. The Phantom we hope can be a dual purpose road race and autocross car. I didn't pay enough attention when I was walking the course, I spent too much time explaining how autocross works to get done what I needed

Only 10 cars for the qualifying. Clearly the Formula Atlantic and Formula Continental cars with their wings and 3 times the displacement is faster than the F600, but such is SCCA racing with mixed field

I'm learning and getting better but I have a long way to go. The 1st thing I need to do is to make sure I stay on the track, then improve my lines. I'm getting more confident in the car.

This is the second weekend racing the TR-1 in F600. I am still on the steep end of the learning curve for the class and SCCA racing in general

This is Rich's 1st race in a formula car since his ill-fated attempt and blown engine at MidOhio in July 2023.

Red Pony moves to Nelson Ledges. This is the fastest track we race at. It was repaved in 2017 and the track is pretty much a dream to drive.

Griffin's 1st Time Doing a Solo and 1st Time Driving F600

This was Griffin's 1st time behind the wheel of the F600, I told him it doesn't drive like anything he has driven before. You can tell them that but until they try it they don't understand. The cool September weather and short runs didn't allow the tires to get up to temperature. Not bad for a 1st timer!

“My mistake was…” - this is a real racer’s mentality right here! ALWAYS look for what YOU could have done differently. Too many drivers - from rental karts to F1 - who never fail to have someone else to blame.

I think I should have taken the afternoon shift! It would have been warmer.
All things equal.. the guy in front of you did seem to 'panic brake' much too early... I can see where you would not have anticipated that early and that hard of a panic stop. At least you didn't smack him from behind and take the both of you out and cause a mess on the track... good job avoiding the car in front.
I should have focused more on what was going on in front of him. I was being to myopic.

For all novice drivers - if you find yourself with a faster car and mixed in with cars that are faster in the turns, hang back and learn from them. When you get to the point were they are holding you up in the turns - then by all means, pass them. Also, you use a solid axle with a single rear caliper? Do you adjust your brake bias at the pedals or with a proportioning valve? Have you tried more front brake bias?
Following the comments of others, spent time at my next race dialing in the brake bias. It is done at the pedal. Thanks!
Yes weaving back and forth scrubs the tires clean, AND warms them up. You're a very consistent driver, I see a few places where your line is wrong, and your throttle and braking is off. Make sure you don't learn any bad habits and make them stick.
