Suzuki GSXR1000 wheelie. L5.
This was my first time back on the drag strip since 2009.
after my first pass, running a 10.7, I was stopped on my return trip by a marshal and asked for my race license.
I explained that I don't have one and I haven't been on track since 2009.
The marshal informed me that if I run a sub 11 pass again, I'd have to leave the track.
You require a race license to run those times.
A little disappointed, I had a chat with friends at the track and decided to have a little fun on my next pass (the one in the video)
Running an 11.010, the marshal was happy for me to continue the day...
Safety standards are interesting 🤔🤣

Standard bike running an Avon 250 rear tyre. I think the reason people have an issue with the gearbox on these bikes is rev matching and not letting the bike rev high enough before charging gears. The gaps between the gears are big so if you don't get the revs right it's a bit of a bump (operator error) otherwise a fun bike to ride if you're comfortable with the weight.

      We just use a thick wire, bend it into a v and weld it on with a suitable gap for the springs. It's very easy and saves you a lot of money. I do this on 90% of my bikes as I've always found aftermarket parts never seem to line up correctly.

      Hey mate, these are really good motors, same as the xt660 dirt bikes. They don't have any specific problems. 40,000kms is high mileage for this style of motor (large single cylinder) but if it's well serviced and ridden with respect, it should keep going for a long time. High rpm is the main killer. Do you know if the valve clearance check has been done yet?

    I'm planning on doing mostly normal roads and every so often a bit of highway riding. Is it manageable on the highway? I know single cylinders aren't ideal for the highway but I wanted to know if there's like big problems at those speeds like crazy shaking or something like that. I have a car now that isn't meant really for highway riding and it shakes a lot at those speeds, but it's still manageable so I don't really mind. So my question is a bit similar to that, not the most comfortable but still manageable so it isn't actually dangerous on the highway.

    • @cartertwowheels3358
      @cartertwowheels3358 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey mate, I'd say the problem with your car is more likely that the wheels are unbalanced or old tires due for replacement, unless there's mechanical damage to axles etc. Nothing wrong with a well serviced small car at highway speeds. These bikes (like all single cylinder bike's) were made for lower speed zones. It's hard to balance a single cylinder motor and the faster you turn it, the more noticeable it gets. This is why they tend to have low rpm red lines. This bike isn't unsafe at high speeds, it's capital of more than 100kph or 62mph easily, however if that's your target speed zone, there's more suitable bike's for it. I'd say test ride something like an MT07 or SV650 as I think you'll prefer the feel and power delivery at those speeds.

    Omg I have the exact same 9! 2006 in that amazing cobalt blue! I’ve not seen another in the wild ever! I think they only came in that blue the first year. While I did have to crack my gear box open and send off my 2nd gear to have the dogs back cut to resolve the gear slip issue that this bike is known for I absolutely love my 9! It helps that I deleted the mufflers. The factory exhaust is gorgeous in my opinion. But opening those pipes and that beast of a motor is a heavenly sound! There’s nothing like a high revving big displacement V twin.

    • @cartertwowheels3358
      @cartertwowheels3358 ปีที่แล้ว

      I had made a custom link pipe to suit. All the exhausts online for this bike were twin outlets and crazy money, also very expensive. So for less than a couple hundred dollars (nzd) I was able to buy this cheaper muffler and make the link pipe. Saved a lot of weight, however it does run smoother with the selincer in. This motor doesn't flow enough for a 51mm pipe. 41mm would be a better option.

The 300cc range of bikes are pretty capable, however avoid the cbr300 as it's a single cylinder and really not as good as the ninja or mt03 320cc. You'll also be pretty limited on lever positions as they get very close to the fairing at full lock. I'd say look for a set that don't move the bars as far forward to keep more adjustability. Yes it's a copy. They work well for the $. A real one might make a small difference you wouldn't notice on the road or track. Only difference is the Chinese ones are heavy so if you're building a race bike it's a weight saving too.

    Hey mate, thinking of buying one, where did you get the link pipe from header to muffler made up? and with the baffle in does it still backfire and is it still loud enough?

      Any exhaust shop came make one up for you easy enough mate. I always do bolt on from the original exhaust so nothing is cut. With the baffle in it backfires about the same but obviously it's a lot quieter and without the flames. The bike also runs better too. Smoother and more power.

      @@cartertwowheels3358 thanks for the reply, also what length muffler did you get, 370mm? I was thinking of going longer at 470mm?

      @@mrclo9911 it wasn't very long. I'd guess 370mm but I really cant remember sorry. Just keep in mind the longer it is the more likely it is to warm your passengers leg lol. Even mine was a bit close there as it had no heat shield.
