Make a Plywood Tool Chest pt.20 Interior surface finish #toolstorage #toolchest #woodwork #tools
Make a plywood tool chest - part 20, the last video in the series.
A quick explanation of which surface finish I applied to the interior.
I used Rubiomonocoat OilPlus2C Mist 5%.
Adds protection, enhances the oak tool holders but also gives some warmth to the beech faced ply.
That is the tool chest series complete. I hope you have enjoyed it, I hope to see some of your versions. Thank you for watching.

Woodwork Tip - Hand tool recommendation for assembling work #woodworking #handtools #woodshop
มุมมอง 3122 หลายเดือนก่อน
A simple tip: if you already know then it is not a tip, I get it. All about tool selection and taking care with your work. I see some woodworkers who take care through the making process but when they get to assembly/glue up time they can go into a panic mode combined with rushing. All their good work can be undone. The glue is going off, why did I not do a full dry assembly, grab the nearest h...

I also discuss a few other tools. The online reviews for the saw are very good and the price is great value even before it is on offer. tl; dr Don't buy this saw
I don’t understand your comment. Tl;? dr? Please expand on your comment, like explaining why? Thank you.
Too long;didn’t read . That will be because yaac then.
I love antique equipment. Cool design.
Me too, great design and does the job even after all these years. 👊🏻
Nice piece!
Thank you, yes he found a great example with good set of bits 👊🏻
Love it!
Thank you Mick, me too. 👊🏻
ayy that’s a noice piece of wood
Thank you, yes some nice timber and lovely when oil finish was applied 👌🏻
Planner, not a thicknesser
It is planer not planner. This is a planer/thicknesser and can be used for both purposes. The video shows it in thicknessing mode rather than the timber over the top of the blade which is planing.

What a great brand name 🤣! Another great video Bill
Yes the Hammer of Thor is a classic and thank you 👊🏻
Magnetic leather pad is a great idea, how do the leather heads do?
Thank you, do you mean how do the leather patches on the block last?
No the thor leather roll attachments, pretty sure Thor do them haa @@Cravenconservation
AHH my bad the rawhide faces are for their other hammers
@@MrDancingBishop No problem, yes I have the other model too but I use it mainly for furniture restoration. Particularly with metal inlays or Boulle-work. The nylon head model I use much more.
Great tips, cheers
Thank you, much appreciated 👊🏻
Excellent video Bill and honest as always.
Thanks Matt, can only give my honest opinion. I often get contact by companies and asked if I send you something for free, will you promote it. I say, I can’t agree to that, what if I don’t like it so don’t send it if that is your expectation. To me it’s common sense. 👊🏻
@@Cravenconservation wish there were more people out there with your attitude Bill
@@Chudders1982 Thank you Matt 👊🏻
Saw your post on Instagram. Subbed
Thank you 👊🏻
This is how cherished family heirlooms are made.
Thank you. I think as long as you make items with care and enjoy what you do, it should show in what you make. 👊🏻
brooooo ur wizarddddd with wooooodddd
Thank you 👊🏻
The craftsmanship shows through the precise fitment
Thank you 👊🏻
😊
Thank you.
Great to see you on the tube. I've been following your amazing page on insta. Thanks for the inspiring content so far and good luck on this new format!
That is great work
Thank you Victor.
I like the classic look, great work on it
Thank you Victor 👊🏻
Thank you Victor 👊🏻
It looks classic great work on it
Thank you Victor 👊🏻
This appears to be a plywood adaptation of Christopher Schwarz’s Anarchist Tool Chest. Looks great. The plywood definitely makes this much more accessible for beginners.
Thank you, I am glad you like it. No this is not an adaption of the Anarchist’s Tool Chest. I made my first plywood tool chest 35+ years ago. Then various types since, each time changing them a little. I also made my first traditional tool chest during my training aged 17. To a degree a tool chest is a tool chest, you can’t change them radically and they were designed centuries ago so we all take those influences and make what suits our situation. I do make the Anarchists versions of the traditional Tool chest with my students as they can also have the book as a resource and because Chris wrote it so beautifully. Yes the idea of the plywood tool chest is the accessibility of materials and ease of making. Thank you. 👊🏻
Very nice beehive boxes.
Thank you. 👊🏻
I bought a Stanley No 78 for $20 from Facebook. Complete with the original box, manual, and the fence. And yes my drawers are filled with coffee stirrers. They are good for spreading glue as well. But damn that veritas looks beautiful
That is a great price and it will serve you well. Always a good excuse to raid the coffee shop stirrers. Yes the Veritas in lovely to use. Thanks for the comment 👊🏻
That looks wonderful good work to both of you.
Thank you Jaden 👊🏻
Brilliant - this is very useful - thank you. I’m going to be using vandyke crystals soon for the first time on a restoration project. Do you apply a coat of button polish after every application of vandyke crystals when building up the colour?
Thank you. I am glad it was useful. Yes you need to seal or remove each coat of van dyke. If you try and apply van dyke on van dyke, you just wipe off the coat before. If you leave VD unsealed it will come off on clothes or with sweat in hands. If you like the VD coat, seal with BP and then assess, if not, wipe off with damp cloth and do it again. 👊🏻
@@CravenconservationGreat - thank you.
@@Timur18056No problem 👊🏻
Where in Ely is this
Hi Izzy, my workshops are between Soham and Ely. If you visit my website you will find details, the business also on Google maps. Craven Conservation & Restoration Ltd.
Can't wait to see how this turns out... I know it's going to be absolutely superb. You're going to have so much fun in that van... Woo-Hoo!
Thanks Russ. I will enjoy doing the work and also using the van. Win Win 👊🏻
Beautiful and looks so peaceful to work in, relax and let time go by
Thank you Bobbi. I like it as an alternative to my other busier workspace. This shop is still used for making and restoration but also I make time to sit and enjoy the space and process. 👊🏻
Cotton white, why not !!
Strange how the vote on YT is strongly for Cotton White but on IG is stronger again for Natural…
Lie Nielsen block plane on plywood ?? That's sacrilege !! lol. Still, would work better than most !!!! Keep up the good work !!
It is not a Lie Nielsen block plane but even if it was, sharpened well it would do its job and then you sharpen it. It is actually a Luban Chinese plane, Quansheng copy. My LN102s are in my traditional workshop/tool chest for cabinet work. 👊🏻
I love this form of tool chest its so adaptable , I've always fancied building a cabinet to put underneath to raise it up to save my back !
Then perhaps consider a Dutch Chest. Footprint is smaller and it is two-tier.
@@Cravenconservation Good idea, I quite like them, but I've worked out a design I plan to make when I have the opportunity more based on the tool chest, might be a fun project one day
@@ianelley Sounds good, I always like a bit of design and trying something out 👊🏻
natural!
Thank you. Looking like natural. On YT cotton white leading, on IG it’s natural and natural overall. 👊🏻
Hello mate, just found your channel, I trained as a furniture restorer in High Wycombe but never had the chance to do it for a living. I look forward to working through your videos, I've not used my tools for quite a while for various reasons but woodwork is still my first love. I'm a member of Essex woodworkers a little group of us that meet up once a month for all things woody, I'll pass on your channel details, I'm sure they will be interested like me , all the best for the future
Hi Ian, I originally trained in Nottingham but went back to do my degree in High Wycombe. Good to hear about your Woodworkers’ Group and thank you for spreading the word. I think I have seen posts from your group on IG. I hope you find my videos helpful, I will gradually be getting many more added. 👊🏻
@@Cravenconservation Yes we are on IG, feel free to pop over and visit if you get the time, we are not a million miles away from you near Tip Tree. I studied the furniture restoration and craftsman degree under Jake Kaner in the late ninties having studied before that in Lincoln, thats where the similarities end as I went to work in the NHS !! lol. I look forward to seeing what you come up with, all the best for the future
@@ianelleyI attended a few of Jake Kaners lectures in my time at HW. I also did my MA at Lincoln so similarities as you say. Thank you for the invite, I will see what I can do. My schedule is usually pretty jammed but you never know. Same offer to you, if you are ever up my way and fancy a cuppa at the workshop, just drop me a message and I will check what I have booked. 👍🏻
@@Cravenconservation That's very kind, my wife regularly has to attend Addenbrookes hospital, I usually have to hang around all day, I could pop over then if that's ok and you're not too far away ? I'll message you the next time I know we have to go
@@ianelley Look forward to it 👍🏻
Do you paint the underside of the base?
Good question David, yes I do as most potential damp would come from floor. Although the one I did 15 years ago never had the base painted and is as good as the day ones made. Depends on its location/environment really.
Cotton white👌
Thank you Hugo. Very strange that on IG it is strong decision for Natural and on YT it is Cotton White 🤔
Beautiful work man
Thank you, much appreciated 👊🏻
My vote is for Pure!
Thank you, I love the finish of pure but the last one I made is done with that. I want a different look to compare, either natural, mist 5% or cotton white. 👊🏻
Mist for sure.
Thank you 👊🏻
cotton white for sure
Thank you Joe 👊🏻
