Mike Oldfield - TB pt2, funky improvisation segment which doesn't exist on the album, Knebworth 1980
มุมมอง 33K10 ปีที่แล้ว
Bits od Tubular Bells Pt. 2 performed at Knebworth Festival, 1980. This funky improvisational part where Mike is playing solo does not exist on the studio version. It was basically a variation of a TB Part 2 segment that will later be titled "Ambient guitars" on the album "Tubular Bells 2003".

The keyboard theme that opens this section - I remember hearing it in another live recording (a boootleg) from around this time, where it was slower and with a bit more reverb to the tone, making it sound enigmatic and intimidating, like seeing a bright, únknown star suddenly rising far away in the night sky. The wide vertical leaps of the tune at that point, and the fact that it's all whole notes, give it the feeling of an unknown inexorable force. Would have made an excellent theme for a sci-fi movie, wouldn't it?
1984 nice je me souvient
The best
As the technology has evolved to allow everybody to multitrack it on their own at home, I can't help thinking of that teenager doing it all himself over half a century ago.
He found his voice through music. He spoke for those who also felt ignored/misunderstood.
“One of the best hopes for popular music”, yet failed to promote him properly once punk came along.
Entonces los conciertos eran conciertos. Se tocaba todo en directo y había que saber tocar para que sonase bien. No eran como la basura que te encuentras ahora, que todo es ordenador y música en lata.
Elf Oldfield is the Celtic god of music in human form
So in other words, a bit like Nick Drake. 😊
Muy buena música supera la versión original de estudio
Always a killer guitar player; especially on this cut. For sure deserves some credit as a guitar playing influence of mine and probably lots of players out there. Overall an amazing multi-genre-instrumentalist.
Great!
Its actually an uptempo version of the last part of side two of TB1 ... same chords just made, festival friendly
This is a valuable historical document.
There is no such documentary. It is taken from the final Part of Tony Palmer's series `All You Need Is Love' which premiered in 1977.
I was there. Great memories. Nico Ramsden sauntering through the fans earlier in the day drinking in the atmosphere.
Lucky you. I wouldn't exist for another year...
I love This Song 😍
Excelente documento. Gracias
who smokes in my studio gets kicked out
Makes me think of an erection, then an orgasm and so relaxed...
Oh so sad, what a terrible awful inhumane regime, the non pure communistic nightmare of an unforeseen act of evil in allowing the tearful fearful creation of a tyrant dictators greedy un needed perverted dreams creation in which all others pay the awful ultimate co$t, as seen once again being carried out yet again in Gaza where there is ethnic cleansing going on & also taking place in the Ukraine that is under attack now by a crazed egotistic maniac whom is yet another incarnation of the pure evil the world has been witness too B4, his ill will of war being there waged upon his fellow human kind an act oh so vile, unkind, for a man who is of sound mind (IS HE?) to wish to there see unfolding there now being inflicted upon others & also unto his own kind of man, his TOY SOLDIERS whom are being told their orders & sold a pack of evil lies. The whOle WORLD needs to now join together to form & act as one bOdY to unite & cry out *"OUT, OUT, OUT"* no, no, no more will the people allow this selfish egotistic evil to have rule over the people that is now still being inflicted upon us all by autocrat tyrants whom wish to rule without their ever being freely given approval of their citizens, we must now unite & act to out rule all they whom wish to run autocracies!!!
“The music might not be that sophisticated, but..” - are you kidding?!! What an ignorant comment by Branson at 8:50.
Tubular Bells... A masterpiece ❤ thx 😊
Oldfield is a fairy folk elf magical creature given to us from Stonehenge powers to give us magic in music
The ending is so good 👍 i used to listen to this in my youth and now so many years after and still love it and appreciate this great music.
Shame he's written such a lot of crap, but his good pieces of work are incredible. My two favourite are this and TB II (vastly superior to I, imo). The drop in quality after these two is quite vast. But that's more about how good those two are.
Simplemente...GENIOS
An unusual combination isn't it: three drummers, one keyboard player and a lead guitarist. I don't think you'll ever see anybody do that except for Mike Oldfield. A man known for not using drums!! Great melodies in this piece too.
Just an amazing album.😊
Its really strange that Mike wouldn't play in public considering he began as a busker in Edinburgh. By the way I think he is the greatest composer/musician of the 20th century. My opinion only.
Vivian Stanshall on the original is mesmerising
is that Maggie on the stage?
Maggie wears a green "suit" and Wendy Roberts a red one.
thanks man@@misty0708

After watched all tubular bells versions available in my opinion this is the greatest one no doubt!!!
Llevo años buscando algo mejor, en cuarenta años me ha sido imposible. Gracias Mike
That Hansford Rowe bass solo is so good.
Eres mi infancia…
This is the tune that kicked it all off for Richard Branson and the virgin record label
way too fast
Mrs Richards: "I paid for a room with a view !" Basil: (pointing to the lovely view) "That is Torquay, Madam ." Mrs Richards: "It's not good enough!" Basil: "May I ask what you were expecting to see out of a Torquay hotel bedroom window ? Sydney Opera House, perhaps? the Hanging Gardens of Babylon? Herds of wildebeest sweeping majestically past?..." Mrs Richards: "Don't be silly! I expect to be able to see the sea!" Basil: "You can see the sea, it's over there between the land and the sky." Mrs Richards: "I'm not satisfied. But I shall stay. But I expect a reduction." Basil: "Why?! Because Krakatoa's not erupting at the moment ?"
Mike , please come back home...
You can recognize Pierre Moerlen's insane/unique drumming...what a complete percussionist and musician he was..big fan here.. can´t understand how I just got this jem..

I was here 40 years ago this very day 🎉
❤Está versión me gusta y además suena muy bien, además me encanta ver lo guapo que luce el señor Oldfield, besos y mi admiración para el.
Mike Oldfield? Bit small-minded really. Bit nasty.
many a time I have been lulled by this LP and collaborations ( on cassette) to sleep. It holds a special place in the brain
