I think a second movie could* work on this premise. Let’s assume the movie takes place in 1985 since that’s when it’s written and that Chris is 12. It could be 25 years later, Chris is now 37 and he has a couple of kids around his age in the original movie. Since he’s a true believer, he keeps Christmas alive in his family, but his kids start to get sick of it with what 2010 technology feeds them. They start to doubt in the same way Chris did, so the Polar Express comes to pick them up and take them on the same trip. Their experiences would be really different since it’s now 2010 instead of 1985, but it could maintain the same themes. I just hope it’s also motion capture CGI instead of live action or Disney-style CGI, but maybe with a little more realism

As absolutely stupid as the ice lake scene is, I love it. I think it was partly done as a flaunt or maybe a test of how well their technology could animate things like shattering ice, splashing water, and the train’s mechanisms

In my opinion, people are unfairly harsh on the animation. It was 2004 and it was THE first fully motion capture CGI movie ever made. It was an experimental movie from a technological standpoint

Even though I'm not a big fan of the use of Lego in these videos, the old duplo Thomas sets will always be better quality wise compared to Mega bloks in terms of how the bricks stick together because the lego company is known for their prestige quality control while mega bloks is just a competitor in the market
