I’ve heard people theorize that the Super Emeralds are not powered up chaos emeralds, but instead the super emeralds are the creation of the Master Emerald and Chaos Emeralds powers combining: creating a set of gemstones completely new There is some evidence to support this, since we see the Super Emeralds in Sonic Mania separate from the Chaos Emeralds. Though it should be noted that the super emeralds appear to be either drained of their power or simply disabled due to Heavy King’s tempering with the Master Emerald.

Emeralds aren't energy emmiters. They're energy storagers and manipulators through the users emotions. The user can later wish to emmit or channel that enery, like Chaos Blast or Chaos Spear or electricity generator. When the user wishes for something to happen, the emerald uses it's stored energy to make it happen proportionally to the emotions the user uses for it's wish. When the user wishes to use that energy to enter superform, the stored energy goes into the user now being another storager, and needing (maybe) rings or extra energy to maintain the superform. When the superform ends, the energy stored in the user returns to the emerald, usually. In the case of Perfect Chaos (Chaos' superform), it uses the energy gained through negative emotions leaving 50% storage in every emerald to gain through positive emotions and then spits them out. Then Sonic either uses the 50% of that energy or knows how to recharge the 100% using positive emotions due to his chaos/speed nature. Anyway, when their superform ends the energy goes back into the emeralds and needs energy of 50 rings to ignite again.

Christmas Island isn't South Island though, and South Island is an Island that floats freely around in the water. In addition the 6 Emeralds were located in on South Island which is where Eggman was looking for them the only reason he was there in the first place. Meanwhile he had history with Sonic and they fought each other previously. So it couldn't be in the way you said. But maybe animals the Sonic cast like Sonic or Amy' ancestors were affected by the Emeralds in general, as they seem to have been transported around quite a bit in the past. Say the Starfall Islands, Angel Island, and South Island. And we know in from TailsTube they all live on the islands as opposed to humans. It would explain why there is normal crocodiles and bipedal talking crocodiles. I'd also note there are several implications the main cast of the characters are generally fast with Amy and Espio being faster than say Charmy or Knuckles. With Sonic and Shadow being the fastest. Also, my personal headcanon is Sonic needs to use the Master Emerald to charge the Chaos Emeralds up into the Super Emeralds and Knuckles won't let him.

In this case, The End aims to eliminate life to end the "chaos of creation" and bring everything to neutrality, order. Because life itself, and perhaps existence itself, generates chaos. And then we have the emeralds, which must exist as a manifestation of this chaos perhaps even of life. Furthermore, it is ironic to think that the manifestation of chaos and life is something inanimate (Although I think the Emeralds have some kind of will) while the manifestation of order and death is an active and thinking being.

I still want to know more about about the role of "Chaos" the creature in relation to the emeralds. SA1 didn't outright say it, but it sure seemed heavily implied that they were of the SAME NAME for deliberate reason. Seems I misremembered Chaos being sealed across all of them, but that sure seemed like the trope they were going for in that game. A deity sealed across multiple crystals is indeed traditional enough to be an easy explanation, so I've always been a little humored by the absense of "Chaos" lore while characters continue to channel the power of the emeralds. But the lore is just lacking there I guess.

I think each island having it's own set of emeralds was a good idea, but its retcon from the lore was a huge mistake - especially considering that the major game gear games are now canon to the main timeline. However, it would create massive issues for games taking place across multiple islands, unless there's one global set of 7 emeralds. South Island has only 6 emeralds; that has been consistently shown and cannot trigger a super form - they keep the island moving around and their displacement causes the island to sink. West-Side Island's 7 emeralds can trigger a super transformation and don't do much else. These are also the emeralds collected in Sonic 3. The Super Emeralds were not originally powered up Chaos Emeralds, but rather just Angel Island's Chaos Emeralds. They disappeared when the Death Egg first crashed and caused the island to fall. They are summoned back once Sonic recollects the West-Side Island emeralds and uses their power in Hidden Palace.

I was just about to point out that Knuckles has to have turned super at least once, sinche he does it in the good ending of his story (which is very clearly shown to happen after Sonic's) in Sonic 3 & Knuckles, but then I realized that story might still be a what if even though it takes place later since Mecha Sonic gets destroyed at the end of it but is still mostly intact on scrapnik island in the said to be canon IDW comics

Im partial to the theory that the emeralds are natural by-products of creation rather than artificially engineered. Because if the ancients made the emeralds on their world, where did the Master Emerald come from? It was just chilling on earth when they found it, and its implied by their reaction that they don't know what it is. Furthermore, why is the master emerald able to manipulate and neutralize the other emeralds if it wasn't also made by the ancients? Why does this random rock on some distant planet have such sway over the ancient-made emeralds? There should be no correlation between the two, and yet they seem so similar and connected. It just makes more sense if all the emeralds (master included) were all created together under the same circumstances and got serperated

A race known as the Drakons created an energy source called Chaos Energy, they then went to the Floating Island to steal seven Emeralds from the Echidnas emerald mine. The Drakon Empire combined the Chaos Energy with the Emeralds to create the Chaos Emeralds. The Chaos Emeralds super form is the state that Chaos Emeralds take when all seven are together otherwise the Chaos Emeralds assume weaker forms.

I find it interesting that Knuckles *chooses* not to turn Super. As for Metal Sonic and Mecha Sonic II, I like to believe that the reason they can turn Super because Sonic's data was hardwired into them. There are multiple sets of emeralds. I like to believe that the Super Emeralds were a one time thing, like Sonic's other forms in the Modern era. But seeing as Blaze has Sol Emeralds in the Sol Dimension, the statement that the Super Emeralds are in another dimension doesn't seem so farfetched anymore... Although, that makes me think a hero in another dimension is using the Super Emeralds.

So technically only sonic, tails and silver are mutations, each of them were born with these abilities. For knuckles, i cant remember if its stated or implied, but most of knuckles abilities are more or less because of his affinity with chaos energy. Rings in universe are also made up of chaos energy and with how common it is in the sonic world they could cause mutations as well. I'm not necessarily saying its radiation, but it could cause some mystical effects similar to it. For Sonic's super form needing rings, its probably only half true, sonic CAN go super with no rings, but the times he needs rings is during battle or if he needs to use more power. The emeralds are each said to hold infinite power, super sonic probably uses up that power faster than the emeralds can supply, thus needing rings.

To be honest I just think certain characters are just mutants from chaos energy like sonic speed is a mutation from his natural connection with the emeralds also in silver’s future psychokinesis is pretty common however he has the strongest powers bcz even in his concept his powers were apparently drawn from chaos energy I guess this can explain why they can use chaos control and go super. While it is possible that the emeralds influence is what made the animals in sonic what they are, that doesn’t mean the islands are radioactive as as walking talking animals exist all over Sonic’s world 🌎

The theory about the chaos emeralds being artificial and simply created by a supremely advanced alien species actually may hold some ground now that I think about it Like despite the chaos emeralds being ridiculously powerful beyond imagination earth science was still capable of reproducing some of their power, if even just a microscopic fraction Like you have the obvious fake chaos emerald that Tails created in SA2 that is realistic enough to even allow chaos control but the same game also introduces the chaos drives that has been confirmed in the diary where created after Gerald studied a chaos emerald and was able to tap into a similar power source. Then in IDW you have the masive fake emeralds that Eggman created to power eggperial city, those emeralds where powerul enough that it allowed shadow to chaos control an entire city into orbit a feat only posible before in his super form and with the help of super Sonic I propose the theory that the fake chaos emerald, the chaos drives and the fake giant emerald are all the same thing and use the same kind of technology just obviously at different stages of development and scale. So the reason why Tails was able to create a fake chaos emerald that is realistic enough to fool the chaos emerald radar and even allow chaos control is because its made from the same stuff the chaos drives are made of, and all of this technology may be the primitive version of the tech used to create the seven in the first place

Hyper Sonic is canon but Iizuka wants to put the Super Emeralds in another dimension because he feels if Hyper Sonic was a thing he would have to make another form stronger than that because we see how Dragon Ball works with different forms so he wants to avoid "Power-Creep" Comparisons, even though it doesn't have to be like that, just write in Hyper Sonic where it makes sense and not go above and beyond.

The Biolizard was created from a Salamander, it being a massive creature like perfect Chaos is mere coincidence, Gerald explicitly explains in his Journal that he chose a salamander as the base for their already impressive regenerative abilities, The Biolizard's growth being because it's body couldn't adapt to the chaos energy created from the chaos drives, thus the life support system was needed, after the Biolizard was locked away gerald began the next step of the Ultimate lifeform, a Bipedal creature, so shadow looking like Sonic is nothing more than a complete coincidence, this was also confirmed by Takashi Iizuka who stated Shadow being a Hedgehog was left a deliberate mystery because they wanted Shadow to be mysterious.

Mecha turning super can't be a product of design but rather a product of the emeralds. in idw, even neo metal sonic goes gold when powered up and in sonic mania adventures, metal sonic just has gold eyes. Why would eggman make one of them specifically not go gold but the rest of them do? I believe the gold transformation is indicative of the emeralds rather than some design choice. How would eggman program a robot turning gold after absorbing magical gems? how does anyone really account for something like that? this gets compounded further when you consider ultimate gemerl. No way eggman intended for him to look like that It just seems more likely that mecha and neo metal chose to imitate sonic of their own volition because they both believe themselves to BE sonic. neo metal especially is capable of independent transformation with metal overlord/madness so becoming gold with the emeralds doesnt seem farfetched. the emeralds channel thoughts into power, so I believe this is a shared thought between mecha and neo metal.

I've thinking and i think i have a pretty interesting theory about super forms and i dubbed it... "Imcomplete Super Forms" Basically what if we haven't fully saw what a Super and Hyper form can truly do cuz they were incomplete, for example Tails and Knuckles forms in Mania, Superstars and Heroes are really their Super forms but they look simple or unimpressive cuz they're incomplete due to lack of experience and used of the Chaos Emeralds, hell even Sonic and Shadow might used to have incomplete Super form, just slightly more complete enough for them to have the golden fur cuz of their dna and Shadow was built with the Chaos Emeralds in mind but in the Classic, Super Sonic didn't have red colored eyes (except in 3&K but he had green eyes instead) and he can't do the same things it can do in Frontiers, and in Adventure 2, Shadow's Super form was unstable to the point in could have even killed him but in the games after he was perfectly fine. The only counterpoint against my theory is Sliver's and Trip's entire existence.

According to Iizuka, Sonic Rush takes place before Sonic 06. Blaze used the Sol Emeralds to become Burning Blaze before she even knew what Iblis was.

I feel like super knuckles and hyper knuckles were canon to sonic 3 because his campaign takes place after sonics. Also in mania it is impmied that knuckles at least fought the bosws with sonic and tails and kept meeting up with them. So if sonic turns super him and tails do too. In encore mode i imagine the two characters at a time thing was just a ganeplay mechanic and all 5 quested at the same time once they met up with the group. Same with superstars. Also knuckles is definetly holding back

Given the status of Master Emerald, aftermentioned original manual Classic lore and the Gaias, (Light Gaia seems to need the Chaos Emeralds to complete his duty) I do think that the Chaos Emeralds are still outright native to Earth but were scattered to space by the gods, either out of punishment for misuse or to help other races beat back The End way in the past. Aside from keeping the Earth intact, this would explain why its such a hotbed for Chaotic and alien activity despite not being advanced itself. I do agree that gems "that create miracles" that they are tied to creation itself in some way. By contrast I disagree that the emeralds are completely scientific in origin, there is too much evidence for the spiritual and I do not think that its a coincidence that years of Master Emerald radiation turned water aliens into cute critters capable of becoming something akin to angels or devils.
