The Delmont Ghost
In the late 1800s, Delmont was just another train station along the railroad in Fairfield County, Ohio, about four and a half miles from Lancaster. It was big enough to boast a post office and remote enough to be called a farming community, with homes spaced far enough apart that one neighbor could see the next. And it had a ghost.
Like to find abandoned and scary places including Lancaster, Ohio ghosts? My books have the address/GPS to visit the sites. Here's the book for the Delmont Ghost Story: Haunted Hocking Hills:

Witch's Grave at West Branch State Park, Ohio

Do you believe? Legends are told that a witch was murdered, crushed beneath stones, in a small, abandoned village that is now nothing but forestland deep in the gut of West Branch State Park. For those who visited, a curse would follow if they vandalized the gravesite. And for those who failed to leave the cemetery by walking backward from it, might release the soulless ghost . . . hauntedhocki...

Not far from Union Furnace, in an isolated pocket of forestland, there is a mysterious valley with a meandering stream. Haha. I only laugh because I have done it a hundred times and get the frustration. I just went back to add it to another book (Haunted Ohio Hiking Trails), so here are the directions directly from the newest book: "Hikers explore the Elliott homestead, cemetery, and the area of legends of a witch’s grave and a curse. Hikers park along Cable Line Road near the gate (41.130578, -81.121123). Do not block the entrance. Take the second marked trail to the right, D Loop Trail, which quickly intersects Machine Trail. At the junction of these two trails, if you go straight (D Loop) about 30 steps, you will see the location of the Elliott House to the left. This is one area with the stacked rocks that some believe is the Witch Grave. Watch for stinging nettle! Return to the latter intersection and turn left to follow Machine Loop Trail around the old property and the cemetery. Turn left on Yellow Trail. Once back on the road (looped), turn left and walk to the top of the small hill on the roadway, and there is a trail (41.129167, -81.126700) to the left leading to the old cemetery (41.129817, -81.127267)." @LoneGhostWriter 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It was actually about 3.5 miles from the school where he was last seen and to where the body was found, although the marker does say 7 miles. 7 miles would be up and back. It would not be completely unheard of for a 4-year-old child to walk that far in a pretty short time- Most people can hike about 3 miles in an hour. So even if he stopped often, Ottie could have hiked for 5-6 hours and gotten there. Although, I often wonder if there was not some "foul play."

      That was my group that went there. I think you guys played cards in the kitchen when you weren't hanging around with us. I doubt that I still have the footage - it was 12 or 13 years ago. If I come across it, I will let you know, but that was probably 8 computers ago for me. That said, the place was probably one of the most active I've ever been in (and I've been to thousands). It was so active, in fact, that we checked the electricity in the building to make sure that it wasn't surging and causing hallucinations. I actually had old souls tell me their names, chat with me, and we were able to look them up in the nursing home archives. But you lived there, so you know--there was nothing really terrifying, just dead people still sticking around like it was still a nursing home in operation. I pulled up some info I had posted on my website back then on the internet archive: web.archive.org/web/20121127024109/www.hauntedhocking.com/Laurelville_Nursing_Home.htm

My boyfriend is skeptical when it comes to the paranormal so I thought I would give it a try to find something lol. Thank you so much for the link! I have 3 very clear memories about living there. When my grandma and I got into an argument there was really loud banging right on my bedroom wall. The other one is my family and I were way up in the living room area and we heard 2 notes on the piano play way back in the nursing home area at the end of the hall. The last vivid memory I have is I was around 9 years old and I was scared because of everything that was going on so I went into my grandmas room and went to sleep in here bed with her, I remember waking up to something I just wasn't sure what woke me up. There was no fan, no air nothing moving in the house everything was still it was really eerie. I looked to my left and the ceiling fans strings started to like dance around each other kinda like something was playing with it or something. About a minute or so they just stopped. It wasn't like you just let it swing and eventually stop it just stopped like something grabbed it. Just felt like sharing a few of my experiences. Thank you again!

    Hello, most articles I see said she was born in 1842 and she found a wounded soldier from the Civil War in 1862. But it said she disappeared a few years later so around 1864/65. I haven't come across an article talking about her living in the 1700's.

    • @LoneGhostWriter
      @LoneGhostWriter 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Her story centers around Isaac Meason's gristmill (built in late 1700s) where she took her grain. The early articles on Betty (1919- 1930s and including the Connellsville, Pennsylvania newspaper The Daily Courier, August 9, 1919, The Morning Herald in 1925, The Pittsburgh Press in 1923) stated the story was near the Revolutionary War. It was not until the 1970s that the story shifted to Civil War times, probably due to the popularity of Civil War movies during the mid-1900s. That is what is perpetuated and you probably see online. Here is another that firms it up from the book: History of Fayette County, Pennsylvania completed in 1882 digital.library.pitt.edu/islandora/object/pitt%3A00aft2784m/viewer#page/610/mode/2up

    • @LoneGhostWriter
      @LoneGhostWriter 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Sleepyhollow77 They may not be aware of the 1882 edition of "History of Fayette County, Pennsylvania" which clearly states that Meason's mill was built pre-1800 and also stated that it was this mill that Knox visited at this particular time. It is not uncommon for stories to change time periods to fit the needs of those who tell them (possibly someone interested in the Civil War era) and the local historic society probably received their information from articles in the 1970s. The book with the correct dates is in in the University of PIttsburgh collections, but can be visited at the above link. Regardless, it is an interesting story!

    My mother took us there as small children with some family friends. We had a station wagon full of kids under the age of 6. We viewed the tomb and had a picnic. This was in the late 70's. Creepiest friggin picnic I've ever attended.

    Well done! We visited Ikie's tomb years ago. I was recovering from a broken leg and it wasn't an easy task!

    I just stumbled across this video.I grew up at the Elluott Lake Club until we were forced to move because of the building of the dam and state park.My grandpa and Mr.Evans always took care of the graves,so sad to see it like this.This was our land.

      I just finished a haunted hikes book and it just tore me apart while researching for it how much land the government gobbled up at the time. Kentucky, Tennessee, and North Carolina . . .I've had it happen to family members and I read the stories of folks in the Smokys while writing the book that had their land taken from them (Cades Cove, Roaring Forks) and I had a real hard time walking into the cabins that the parks kept there because I felt this horrible feeling I was trespassing. There was no stopping them.

      @@LoneGhostWriter And the 3 TVA lakes of N GA as well. They flooded massive ancient native towns in the river valleys without research (not Cherokee).

    ya I guess it wasn't a bird because you didnt see it...it must've been a ghost...that's the most logical conclusion.

    So I fished alot near the top of Betty Knox. 4 days a week Id watch the sun rise on the stream. 1 morning, before it was light enough, it got VERY cold to where I put a jacket on and could see my breathe, I stood there alone. Out of nowhere, softly I heard a mans voice, "Hello." I could feel the breath on my ear and it was a normal calm tone. I looked around and I saw nothing. 2 mins later it was warm again and I took my jacket off. Still gives me chills thinking aabout it

      I was standing at Betty’s spring admiring how well she lined it with Creek stones (all were still in place after 200 plus years) when all of a sudden a bolt of light shot through the tree tops. It looked like lightning, but there was no thunder. Those are old woods. Some of the Hemlocks are well over 300 years old. There’s definitely energy in that area.
