Congratulations on your achievement!! I can personally tell you that it is difficult enough to be able to freedive to a decent depth, but harder still to stay down and be able to film or take pictures of the native sea-life before running out of air. Scuba of course would be a lot easier but then the bubbles (as you know) scare all the fish away. So please take some god vids and share! 🙂

Do seals carry bacteria? 🦭🦭🦭 > Marine mammals have been shown to carry many of the pathogens we associate with food poisoning, such as E. coli, Salmonella, and Listeria. 😅💩

Generally, rising up suddenly from such depths can cause bends or decompression sickness! I've seen ppl wait at a certain level for some time to avoid this. I was wondering if this didn't happen to you?
Hey there, thanks for the comment. What you describe applies mainly to scuba divers who breathe compressed air underwater. When we freedive, we hold our breaths, so the mechanism is quite different and the risk to DCS is much lower because we don't breathe compressed air. So we don't do the same kind of "safety stops" scuba divers do (I am a scuba diver and a rescue diver too). That said, DCS is still possible, but much rarer and usually only happens to very experienced freedivers who did a lot of repetitive dives to certain depths which beginners don't reach.

I imagine the pressure difference alone is pretty intense
You feel the pressure a lot more with cavity filled with air in your body because those get compressed. So you do feel your middle ears and lungs compressed when you descend (and that's why it's important to equalise your ears), but coming up the air expands and you actually don't feel it that much apart from feeling that you are getting more buoyant as you ascend.

It’s never too late as long as you are well and healthy! There are many 50+ 60+ explorers out there! One guest on the whale boat was 60+ and had cancer and was not in his best health condition - and he had the best time! Take one step at a time 😊
