💼 As a student working non skilled and manual jobs to pay through your studies, working even in a land of opportunities can be tricky I realized. Because there are many students looking for work, there are cases where employers take advantage and employees don’t get treated fairly. Sadly, mostly students don’t complain even if there are organizations protecting the rights in fear that they will never find work again. So, the best one can do is to ask few questions while starting employment with a company to save yourself from being taken advantage of I learnt from my experience.
📌 In this video, I put together 5 questions/things that we can ask employers before starting employment with them so that you know what you’re getting into and working for. It also establishes if your employer and you’re on the same page. This I believe will help not cause any issues in the long run.
🧷 Employment type, shift hours, public holiday shifts and end of service noticed are points that are explained in detail about why you should ask.

Can I ask something, I heard australia Is a place where most people don't do overtime work & has more free time compared to UK or USA. How true is it ? How many hours do you work in a week ?
Hi Suresh, Given that I haven’t personally been and lived in the UK or USA it’d be hypocritical of me to compare. All I can do is give my opinion on Australia. Well, immigrants do work in Australia- majority work a lot. I have seen them especially the dependents having at least 2 jobs. When it comes to students everyone has one job at least. There are also people who work 7 days a week if they get shifts I have seen lol. So I don’t think immigrants especially from developing countries don’t work. When it comes to working hours, students will now go back to having restricted working hours. So from July we will be working only 48 hours per fourth night. Hope this was helpful. Cheers !

Honestly, I don't find anything wrong with sweeping given that we have to do it daily at home and not get paid. If that gives some people the financial freedom in life, then be it. As my my knowledge you can buy a single cover for your spouse which would be cheaper than buying as a couple. Of course if insurers know from your information that you’re a couple they won’t issue 😅 Also if you and your partner are planning on having babies single cover won’t cover that and you’d need a couple’s insurance cover. Hi Tshering, You’re right that there aren’t consultancies helping us process for Melbourne. At least there weren’t when I was applying. So I had searched my own course and the university I wanted to go to, and then went to Global Reach to ask them to apply. I believe with universities not on a consultancy’s list, they can’t help much with advice on courses & life in that area. However, they do apply on your behalf though without the guarantee and assurance they’d give for universities they are partnering. Hope this was helpful 🙂

Hi Priyanka, It does have business courses in the City Tower Campus. However, in my experience sometimes there are courses at both City Tower and Footscray campus and some courses you do few units in Footscray and few in City. It’s an interesting blend. So, the best to give you a solid response would be the International Student Support. They are quite responsive. Good Luck ðŸ€
