Exploring music creation by dissecting and recreating some of my favorite scores from television and the cinema. I hold a fascination for the construction of musical scores and all their intricacies.
My favorite composers include (but are not limited to) John Williams, John Debney, Jerry Goldsmith, and James Horner. This channel is an homage to these artists and the productions in which their works could be heard.

Theme from TV's Galaxy Quest: The Journey Continues
This is my rendition of the theme from Galaxy Quest: The Journey Continues. This was the spinoff/follow-up series that served as an update to the original Galaxy Quest TV series from the 1970s. Galaxy Quest and Galaxy Quest: The Journey Continues starred Jason Nesmith as Commander Peter Quincy Taggart who commanded the N.S.E.A. Protector. The Protector was outfitted with state-of-the-art quantum flux drive and was capable of sustained speeds in excess of mark 15, and occasional sprints of up to mark 20.
Of course, none of that is true. Galaxy Quest (1999) was a film about a band of actors from a long-canceled science fiction series who earn a living now by attending science fiction conventions, signing autographs, interaction with fans, or even participating in the ribbon cuttings of big box stores. "By Grabthar's hammer... What a savings." That is, until one day, actor Jason Nesmith (Tim Allen) is asked by a group of apparent convention attendees to command their starship. Nesmith agrees to meet them, thinking it's a paying gig. In reality, the convention attendees are actual extra-terrestrials, called Thermians, who have built an actual starship and named it The Protector because they believe the television transmissions they have been receiving are historical documents. They believe they are enlisting the aid of Commander Taggart. Nesmith has no idea what's in store for him!
The score for the film was composed by David Newman, whose credits include War of the Roses, Matilda, Bowfinger and Heathers, to the more recent The Spirit, Serenity, and Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel. Newman's music has brought to life the critically acclaimed dramas Brokedown Palace and Hoffa; top-grossing comedies Norbit, Scooby-Doo, Galaxy Quest, The Nutty Professor, The Flintstones, Throw Mama From the Train; and award-winning animated films Ice Age, The Brave Little Toaster and Anastasia.

I recreated this theme out of a love for the film. To accomplish this, I used Magix Music Maker Premium 2025 with a variety of plug-ins, including the BBC Symphony Orchestra Core and Discover plug-ins, EDIROL, and more. I mixed and mastered the piece using Audacity 2.4.2. I edited and rendered video using Cyberlink PowerDirector 15. Everything is running on a Windows 10-based Dell Precision workstation.
I hope you enjoy watching and listening to this as much as I enjoyed (re)creating it!

I always thought Dominic Frontiere had a very interesting style in his compositions. In the case of Search I think it is one of his best compositions. Of course, we must not forget the great quality with which you, Neal, have reproduced it. Thank you very much for providing us with a wealth of good memories.
Agree completely! By the way, did you know it was Dominic Frontiere who first put the notes together for what would later become Star Trek's signature theme? Watch almost any episode of Combat and it's unmistakeable. Of course, these days, we'd expect to see the Enterprise come flying in from screen left. It turns out that he and Alexander "Sandy" Courage knew each other and were friends. Anything beyond that would be speculation.

Ann Pentis, who portrayed Ann Mulligan in *Moonrock* and had aimed to take over the role of Gloria Harding from Angel Tompkins, was convicted in 1996 on an assault charge against her father. While incarcerated, she attempted to hire another inmate to kill both her father and her brother-in-law, actor-director Richard Benjamin. On July 23, 1997, she was sentenced to 19 years in prison, where she remained until her death in 2010.
This is an interesting and fairly horrific bit of trivia. I wonder what drove her off the deep end?
Albert Popwell, who served as the translator for the unit, actually appeared in most of the *Dirty Harry* movies. You might not remember him because he often gets killed within the first 15 minutes. One of his most famous scenes is the iconic "Do you feel lucky, punk?" moment. If you go back and watch the films, you'll notice he's in at least three. In the first film, he plays the pimp who meets his end at the 5 minute mark.
I love that song, and it brings back memories of how we became friends when I first discovered it on TH-cam. I don't think many people realize just how groundbreaking that TV series was. In a way, every day, we’re all like Lockwood-we carry a device that lets us translate, communicate, and access information instantly. We're all super secret agents now.

Well-done, really! I have fond memories of this music, and this series. Henry Mancini did it again! Part of the good old days, when you had a variety of prime-time dramas involving actual filmmakers and actors; rather than “reality” competitions, match-making, talent contests, and game show remakes. (CBS and ABC followed suit with their own revolving mystery shows.) Your extended arrangement is excellent; in fact, in parts it sounds better than the original.
